Hey thanks! My 2010 just started making noise awhile back ago and thought it was related to the actuator but wasn’t sure! We checked the hoses and all were working so sounds like this will be our next step. Darn midwest Rust belt really doesn’t do us any favors!
If the actuator is bad would the 4x4 fault light illuminate? I have a loud intermittent clunk that’s way louder then the clicking you showed but only happens in 4x4 but I have no light on? Also hear a slight air leak when switching on/off for 4x4 could a bad house also cause a very loud clunk?
Glad it helped! I have no clue where I got the vacuum pump but I’m sure you can find them on Amazon! If this issue occurs is it safe to drive in 4WD to just leave the gear engaged. I’m having the issue for the first time on a road trip and hope to continue on and deal with it when I get home.
Engaging 4wd would be the way to keep it from making the ratcheting noise. Not recommended to drive at highway speeds in 4wd. The proper way would be to disconnect the vacuum source hose (the bottom hose and plug it) from the solenoid which is located on the driver side of the firewall, under the hood. The bad actuator will not throw any lights but it sounds like you have a couple problems there.
Thank you for the video! Easy to follow and great pictures! Where did you get the vacuum pump?

Good lesson there, if you’re doing one just go ahead and do both!! 👍
Absolutely!
2010 f150 my front differential is clunking real bad my vacuum lines are broken, will it fix the clunking if I replace the vacuum lines?
That’s a good place to start!
Is the vehicle running when you use the vacuum pump? And does it matter if it's in 2 or 4wd? Thank you!
This is a 4x4 problem only and you test with the vacuum pump and the vehicle is off
On the 4WD actuator, the bigger port is what he hooked the vacuum to, but what is the little port for?
I think it’s a bypass to the vacuum reservoir!
mine is 2017 and it has the same issue

@@OldeCarrGuy , thanks for the reply. I’ll try to figure this out this morning before driving my next leg.
Good job
Thanks
Is that a dealership only part?
No! Link in the description to Amazon!
So I guess after 15 they must have changed the design.
And not a good design! imho
