Wheat Harvest Wrap Up: Cat Powered Oliver 2255 FWA

  • It's the last day of wheat harvest 2019, one more chance to give a tractor a workout. The Oliver 2255 pulls the wagons while the Massey Ferguson 8570 fills them up. The 1900 A is still on the auger, making sure the neighbors know that I'm working.

    Lovin it. Oliver and Cockshuitt used to be the go-to tractors in Canada, but these days I only ever see them at tractor-pulls/equipment shows. There are very few things that are as distinctly Canadian as an Oliver or Cockshuitt. I'd gladly give up Tim Horton's for an Oliver lol.

      @MFKR696 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stephenfonder7409 What if I told you that I can like Olivers and dislike Detroits at the same time? Oliver happens to be my favorite tractor brand, with Massey Ferguson coming in close second and Cockshuitt in third. I liked that tractor despite the fact that it was running a Detroit, and most Olivers did not run Detroits. I dunno how you can get so confused over something so simple. It's fairly self-evident.
      Their Detroit-powered tractors are probably some of the worst that they ever made. Does that make more sense to you? If not, you're out of luck. The comment I responded to was "I love these old Detroits", to which my response was "Detroits suck". How does that in any way relate to Oliver tractors as a whole? The only reason some Olivers came packing Detroits was that for some reason Detroits were really popular at the time. It had nothing to do with performance.

    That 2255 already looks wicked but would look even more wicked with two chrome straights coming up from each side that Cat engine. Don't know how ling you could tolerate them but it would sure sound good. You know even with heat shields that hot exhaust can't be good on the oil temp being just underneath the oil pan. Wonder why engineers desigh stuff like that..........

    • @freedomring4813
      @freedomring4813 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Engineers sometime lack good old common sense.

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sometimes I wonder what was going through their heads. Could be Cat didn't have a manifold at the time that would allow a different routing of the exhaust, and Oliver felt it was more cost effective to go the route they did, rather than come up with a new manifold. Sometimes the engineers get it right the first time, then the bean counters come in and tell them to find a cheaper way to do it, and that's when things get weird. Other times, it's just weird engineers.

    • @MFKR696
      @MFKR696 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not exactly rocket science. The Ferguson 3-Point Hitch has remained pretty much unchanged since it was invented. Hydraulic rams lift the bottom two forks, and the adjustable top-link with no ram attached to it stabilizes the implement, although I have seen top-links that use a hydraulic ram instead of a turn-buckle for adjusting length.

      @@ThatOliverGuyChris had an 1800 Massey with the 3160, I'd heard of a few issues before we got it, then found the worst issue... No parts availability!!
      The 3208 had some rod issues, saw an almost new White articulated at a tractor salvage yard way back when... I could put my fist through the hole in the block😪 waste of a nice tractor!!
      Ours had injection pump issues. Back then, you couldn't do anything.. I've heard since, that someone came up with an adapter to mount a 3208 pump on a 3160...

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I had the chance to buy a 2255 FWA that we sold, but I already had this one, and in retrospect, I should have sold this one to get one that came from our dealership. That one had the 3208, had dropped a valve while it was under warranty, and Oliver bought them a complete new 3208 for it. The one I do have still has meaning to me since it came from a good friend, so it's all good either way.

    Put each exhaust toward the outside. I'm sure you can find suitable manifolds for that purpose. (would flipping them upside-down and switching them left/right fit the needs though? Would they still bolt on and clear the head-covers?)
    I like those old Oliver ;)

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The manifolds will flip and clear, but I'm too much of a stickler for originality to do that. I saw a 2255 at a show in Ontario where they had used manifolds from a turbo application, brought the exhaust forward and went up through the factory hole in the hood. It looked clean and sharp, I could live with that.

    • @Ghis1964s
      @Ghis1964s 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ThatOliverGuyChris I said "clear". Never said anything about cutting or hole. (I mod my garden tractor with a bigger engine, but made raiser for grill and hood so it fit well under. Other people cut their hood, and I hate it)

    Somewhere on TH-cam is the original White tractor joint commercial between Oliver/MM, and models featured were the G1355 (incorrect number most likely), 2155, 2255, and the 4-axle articulated tractors, that one was in the yellow. So, here's my idea on the Oliver, you kinda beat on yourself about making stuff not original (like the Super 70). So put the Cab on, if the A/C is a problem, move the stuff into the roof, blower, condenser, evaporator and so on.

      @@ThatOliverGuyChris well that's probably true as well, thise Detroit's blew oil, I know there was a saying with them just can't remember it right but it had to do with leaking oil and running right when it came to the old Detroit's, never was a fan of those, had to many problems, I guess if you found that 1 in 100 that did great but that was hard to find, we've been through a few of them, anyway love the Oliver's, just in the wrong time or marketing or several things at once made go out of business, but they made a great tractor, keep plugging away at the videos, really enjoy them, and God bless

      146 was the official number, which makes it the highest horsepower Oliver ever offered.
