Just watched your "boxer shorts and skirt for Coco" video, March 12, 2024. Needed to review sewing pants like that, haven't had a female dog requiring them since brerding my Cocker Spaniel, 1996. I made little blue jeans for her and a matching pair for her mate because he marked territory during their "honeymoon." A little elastic in the inside curve of the legs and either along the belly or on either side of the belly helps the fit and helps them stay in place. I have an 8 month old female Golden Retriever now and need to get prepared for her cycles. I'll have to stitch on buttons and buttonholes for her--she loves ripping velcro apart. Good demo! Thanks.
My puppy has started her cycle and I didn't know. A few days ago I saw a very small droplet of blood on my bed sheet. I thought maybe my finger bled or something but didn't find a cut. My husband thought the same thing about himself. Then today my teenage son said Lucy is on her period. Gosh, I should have known but I have never had a pet before. Anyway I will try your pattern. For now though, I have a pair of panties she chewed a hole in. I will use those with a pad and put her tail through the hole. Lol 😆 probably velcro them on. I bought panty liners for the diaper this evening
Thanks for this! I just adopted my 6 dog and same as you first time a female dog. And the second day she was here she started being in heat. So I want to make sanitary pants for her!
Awe, Coco is absolutely adorable! In the states, we call these bit*h britches. My 8 year old female Boxer just finished her cycle. Always fun to design and make small alterations to new britches, especially so they don’t bind her inner loins when she lays down. Her name is Diva and she prances around like a Diva when she has her pants on. I also enjoy making doggie coats, although they don’t get much use here in Florida!

My girl is going to be 4 yrs old, a German Shepherd, and I am wondering how you determined what size to make? Not sure if I have "britches" like yours to use as a template. Well done video demonstration, BTW! Thank you 😊
Vicki, for a German Shepherd, you might try men's underwear as well. If you have any scrap fabric, I'd wrap that around your girl, and mark some lines as a size guide, then make up similar to underwear 🙂
@Christine's Home Affairs I haven't sewn any from scratch, but I have done the men's underwear, purchased a pair online that have velcro, childrens diapers, and tried numerous other ways, but I still have all kinds of mess (the diaper shifts & it actually misses the sanitary pads 🙃) plus they fall off at times. I am perfectly willing to make my own, just trying to find a good fit I guess!
@VickiJD22 I had problems with it slipping as well. I used extra Velcro to adjust pants when they're on. They wriggle around so much, it can be difficult to keep them on. I later found more stretchy fabric tightened better without causing discomfort

Great video. The tail hole seems a little fiddly to me. I found putting seam binding around easier. Just a thought.

Haha, try some toddlers knickers, but you could still use yours and pin the sides until they fit, then use that as a template🤭

how did you workout what size knickers to use????
I just grabbed a saggy old pair out of my drawers and draped it around the dog to see if it would fit.🤣🤣

I measured around her waist, then added extra to provide for the velcro. As all the dogs vary in size, I did a test run first.
The volume is too low.
