Thank you so much for this tutorial! I wanted to try this out but all the other tutorial videos I checked out made it seem super confusing, but you made it seem very simple. So I just got a Playstation Classic and it should be here tomorrow. I'm super stoked!
To those who are confused about the "games" folder, this soft modding/hacking method was "discontinued", the files that get downloaded now is a tool to uninstall gpghax from your PS Classic, if you read the "README.txt" that comes with it, it has uninstall instructions and the last step says to use BleemSync to soft mod/hack your PS Classic instead because it's much safer and easier.
@Jerome VV it's not that bad of an emulation box. It's just those PAL ROMs that sucks. But the hardware is reasonably enough to run any PS game in 720p. I guess lol. But I still wanted dualshock controllers tho
@Jerome VV There is no excuse for anything to buy beyond the pc since it emulates perfectly Ps1 and for absolutely free, but you still insist to buy a broken laser Ps1,with frameisters and tons of cds and spend time to write the isos. At least a hacked ps1 classic is plug and play at a modern way and playing all games with ease, plus Retroarch is coming on it soon, hackers are working on porting it.
Kudos to the quick hack discovery by the community. Version 1.0 is always about "can we do it?". Subsequent versions are about "can we make it better?" . I'll bet the hacked interface will be much smoother in a couple of months, and will be worth the wait. Might involve a kernel dump though.
Let's be honest here. The only reason any of us bought this thing is so we could put our own games on it. Won't be long, and we can put every single game in the library on here with pictures, videos, and descriptions as well as wide screen options and who knows what else. Some like the extra graphics filters. As for myself well, I only want 4:3 original aspect ratio and scanlines on my 4K tv. Not too much to ask huh? Thank goodness for RetroBoot. I use RetroArch with it via usb the same as above. I fixed the HD muddy issues using the RetroArch video settings and the build in games look fantastic, the way they were supposed to. And using a different PlayStation core which presents the games in a much sharp crisp image, turning off the binlear filtering, set it to 1280 by 720 and 16 x 9. Compared the crap that's on the actual system. Plus I added Super Nintendo, Sega, etc games as well. Now they are 30 bucks and we can turn this Classic into a very good emulation console.
I wouldn’t say it’s funny. I would say that it’s sad that Sony thought they could pass this lackluster no-thrills mini console onto the retro community. They should be thanking the hackers.

I guess everyone has their opinion. I do not mind spending 100 bucks to get the system and the feel of the controllers. If you do not like this then go ahead and pass. I was just answering to stangulator42 because he was asking.
It seems like the developers working at Sony realize the restrictions that Sony was giving them so they designed a system where it was easily hackable like adding the open source emulation with accessible menu and two USB ports. So the system seemed bare Bones but when you actually get into it you can do a lot with it. They had to have known that people will be trying to hacking it.
Yeah. I'd say just go to Google Play, buy ePSXe download ps1 bios and you are ready to play your Playstation games... just don't forget to use a controller tho.
@@frataltay4543 Only a few fames work well try playing tomb raider for example. Also you can change the games to NTSC wich now run flawlessly on the classic.
snow drifter I tried Tomb Raider and didn't run into any problems. Also this is a shameless cash grab. They are using people's nostalgia to gain money. There is so many better ways to play your Ps1 games! Yes Nintendo also did it but at least their systems running the games properly, has no pal versions of the games and they have best games of their platform.
If you are copying only the *.BIN files you are going to miss out on the music for most games. You also need to include the *.CUE file as well. This is what includes the Redbook audio cue settings and tells the PSX/emulator where the audio tracks are on the disc image. Many rips online were also done incorrectly.
I am still not convinced this is a good buy cause it's at a 100 dollars and its too expensive still. I can pretty much either break out my original psx console or just play them on a raspberry pi or my pc with ease.
The PS Classic is not meant to be a very practical console, it's more like a little trophy for collectors or maybe something you can have fun hacking or a toy for the kids so they can experience a bit of the original PlayStation games without touching your expensive gaming PC.

I guess it's a good way to sweeten the pill for those who already bought it, but the emulation and the hardware are still garbage. Most other devices (including your laptop and smartphone) emulate PS1 games WAY better.
The hardware is not bad for just $100, Sony just messed up everything with those useless PAL ROMs, once you load proper NTSC games all things run fine.
@@danielgomez7236 It's pretty poor. It's using a 4+ year old chip that was in basic tablets. GamersNexus did a tear down of it. Pretty sure the chip in the new raspberry pi is more powerful.

For the PAL games, you can go to the emulator settings and change region from "AUTO" to "NTSC" and will run properly. Do NOT force NTSC games to run as NTSC, keep those at AUTO.

... and ever since the keyboard exploit was discovered, it came out that the emulator *does* support scanlines! so why sony didn't offer an option to toggle them anywhere in the settings, who even knows?! I'm not terribly shocked it got cracked within a week, I figured it wouldn't be long. :P
Consoles usually don't offer too much (if any) freedom to configure or customize your system because it would be ToO CoMpLiCaTeD.
I got one and I fully intend on putting Gran Turismo on there
*Voila, my mans.
Thank you so much for the tutorial
Only downside is you can't play 2 players
Anyone try a usb hub in the first connector so you can use 2 controllers?
mpholicx2 that’s what I would do. I might try this real soon
yeah someone try this ty
I wonder if you could use a USB adapter like one can on the snes classic and use the power port in the back.
I saw another video and it can be done
Best video on this topic. Concise. Thank you.
Credit to eta prime for this video
8 bit flashback has a good one too.
@@mpholicx2 ETA Prime was the first, then madlittlepixel, John Riggs, 8bit flashback then RGT85.
It’s interesting how hacking and homebrew actually increases console sales for some would-be failed consoles like the PS Classic.
So after bashing this now it is good? LOL
Appreciated but it's still not ready. We'll wait.
3:25 my ps classic wont do the light thing so the games dont get loaded on the classic.
Help plzzzz
I have the same problem! :
change the usb stick name to SONY
thats very important
For the PAL games, you can go to the emulator settings and change region from "AUTO" to "NTSC" and will run properly. Do NOT force NTSC games to run as NTSC, keep those at AUTO.
Do you have to do this for EVERY single game you play or can you set this as default for every game?
what if there is not a games folder?
what do i do?
same thing to me...
Awesome video brother your the goat
There is no "Game" folder in the GitHub Zip file !
same
You should be able to plug a usb optical drive to the ps1 Classic and rund original games discs.
Nah, still don't do it. Grab a RetroPie. It's super easy to do and plays hundreds of different systems including Playstation and plays them flawlessly. Don't reward Sony for this bullshit.
@@Coldsilfur4 I understand collectors just fine. STOP rewarding companies for creating trash products. Looks like a Playstation? That make raspberry pi cases that look even better than Sonys poor attempt. :)
The setup for the retro pie is so complicated and convoluted, it's not worth it.
@@jasonoconnor3194 Only if you're an idiot. You literally write a single file to a SD card and plug that card into your Raspberry. It's actually four steps easier than RGT's method of adding ISOS to the Playstation Classic.... so umm.
Michael Thomas Ireland I dunno about that. It looks pretty much exactly like an original PlayStation to me.
@@Alan_Chapman And so do the Pie cases....
