There's actually a bit of room to add games directly the system. The total space for the 20 games installed comes to 7gb. The system has 16gb of storage. The emulator takes up 3-4gb depending on which build it has. So there's a good 6gb left to add almost double the amount of games depending on what you install. So yeah, you could potentially have 40-50 games on the system alone.
Very informative video...hopefully Sony takes notice and does the right thing second time around by investing a little time/effort into future minis...
Adding on to the example you showed about the save states, starting up Twisted Metal and playing Crash Bandicoot, do the settings for Twisted Metal apply to Crash Bandicoot like the playable format, scan lines, and frame skip just to name a few?
Hopefully somebody will optimize the emulator, or replace it entirely, as it still looks like it runs pretty badly for quite a few games, even some NTSC ones. The question is, do the current "hacks" really make it worth the $100 asking price (which is even higher in the UK and other Countries)? I'm convinced now that Sony knew full well that people will be adding extra games, so didn't bother at all with any real security measures. This will no doubt boost the sales now, and they knew that, too. The thing is, buying these devices is somewhat fuelling Sony's laziness. I personally don't think large corporations should be rewarded for obvious cash-grabs like this. But, I do get the appeal. The case and controllers do look nice, and many people (myself included) could argue that messing with emulators and the filesystem is a big part of the appeal. I just can't justify spending that much on yet another generic ARM-based emulation box. If / when the price drops to around $65-70, then it may be worth it as a collectible, and for the controllers. I'd give it only about another month before we start seeing Mario 64 running on this. lol (and then NES, SNES, Genesis, SMS, CD32 etc. etc. It should work fine for all of those.)
@@urbanmidnight1 That's the thing - in the UK, it's more like $150. At the end of the day, I guess it's just not really for me. I'm not much of a gamer these days (too busy with tech projects), and if I were to play on a PS1 "clone", it would have to be via FPGA. If I can possibly help get it done, we WILL be seeing a PS1 core on MiSTer within the next year. It then won't require a 1.5GHz SoC to run properly, it will all run at the exact same speed as the original console, still support upscaling for HDMI, native RGB / Component output for CRTs, ISO loading from uSD card or USB, and all with super-low latency. ;)
@@TooFurious4 That's a fair point. With Dual Shocks, and knowing it was always going to be hacked within weeks, that wouldn't have been too bad. It's a bit like when you see a disappointing movie - the main frustration is that this could have been SO much better with just a few tweaks and a bit more effort from Sony. Sony do make some fantastic TVs, camcorders / DSLR cams, the PS4, and many other good things, but they really dropped the ball on this one. Even with the same original controllers, if it - Ran all games very close to the original speed / frame rates, didn't have the more severe of the audio / sync issues, had just a few more classic games (like Crash), used the 60Hz games for all regions, and had options in the main menu for disabling the awful blurry filter, then yeah, $100 or so would have been acceptable. It might sound like a lot to ask, but most of those would have taken almost zero effort for Sony to fix, and I think most reviews agree that it was a lazy effort. Shame.
The bad part about it if Nintendo would have done the same you'd never heard the end of it of people bashing on them? Now all you hear it's good for $100 cause it's being hacked? This will be one product that I will not support.
So for anyone else who has the same problem I do: I followed all the steps of both tutorials but could not get game 21 to show; I still can’t get it to show BUT I can get everything else to work. The other problem I had was that the classic wouldn’t boot cue files and would crash. This was solved by making individual folders for each game and putting the cue in those...not sure why this is what fixed it but it works.
I’m almost convinced that kind of like Nintendo, Sony knew this was going to be hacked. So they decided to make it easy rather than pay some of the crazier license fees.
I am enjoying your updates on the Playstation Classic. I commented on a previous video about getting a Playstation Vita TV. I originally did not want one because some of the Playstation games I wanted were not available, such as "Spider-man", "Clock Tower", and "Granstream Saga". However, I managed to buy one off Ebay for $110, and there are a few Vita games that interested me enough to get it. I read that it is hackable, but I did not see anything about putting roms on it. Also, I never canceled my preorder for the Classic, so now I'll have both. I do not plan on hacking into it until I am able to plug it directly into my computer like I did with the Nintendo Classics. I do not like the idea of having an external drive sticking out of the system. Keep up with the updates. They're making me not regret my purchases.
Wow you paid 110 for a vita TV? I got mine at wal mart over a year ago for 25 bucks with 2 games and a dualshock 3 controller. I even picked up a few as gifts for stocking stiffers that year. Never got around to hacking though I actually forgot I had One I read your comment

Yo MLP, quick question, because I havent seen anyone cover it.. Does the japanese version of the PS Classic have the bunk PAL roms on it too? I see they got some exclusive games there, including G-Darius & Gradius Gaiden, which are better than most games that are included with the international release, IMO. G-Darius alone has me tempted. Any info on the Japanese version?
Great video as well as the last one but I want to know is there any action replay or xploder cheat roms that can be loaded onto the PS1 classic mini because back in the day I played games fully then play them using cheat disc's
Have you tried with a usb hub, keyboard flashdrive combo, usb 2.0 or 3.0? How large of a drive have you used? Thanks. Ill be showering after a run in with that like button.
I thought you were going to use a SQLite editor on that db file to add more games to the menu. It would be more work and possibly only work with .bin/.cue, but it would definitely be slick. The directions on the github seem to say you can do this. I doubt it would brick the console, since it's seems to read the hack off the USB at boot, so it might worth a try.
I remember a whole lot of years ago sony sued psx emulator developers, I believe pcsx was sued as well. And now they are using that software themselves...
So what's the point, you get a much better gameplay experience and menu with a rasberry pi and they're both emulation, the only difference is you get a neat playstation usb controller with no dual shock?
This is enough for Sony to get my money for the PS Classic... We will eventually get all our games on that menu I have no doubt... now if only someone figures out a way to wire it up so I can chuck some storage in the case and not lose the ability to have both controllers functioning via the front usb slots... then ill be happy
Think I will ask Santa for one now. Think it's time for companies like Sony and Nintendo to employ more people from the Modding scene and get the "mini" consoles right the first time
Heh... "This" is why I didn't cancel my preorder. I knew someone was going to hack and mod the console. :) Btw, a question about the USB. Have you tried running both the thumbdrive and the second controller at the same time using a hub? And if you have, have you, or do you know if, the 4 player games can run the 3rd and 4th controller through the hub?
Since we have to get in-game before we change roms and we hit reset the save will replace the one we have for the game, it means we only get one save for all games we try out...how are save states working inside pcsx? Have you tried this? Can I use a slot per game for instance? Let's say I open up Intelligent Qube and I'm using that game to open every extra game I have, can I use for instance, slot 1 for intelligent qube, slot 2 for tomb raider, slot 3 for resident evil 2, etc?
It’s weird I never got the impression once that he was taking credit for this method while watching it. He previously stated he left the discord server after getting a lot of unwarranted hate notices from others who inexplicably believed that he had taken credit for it. I appreciate anytime someone takes the time to make an easy to follow video like this. Credit should absolutely be given but if it’s not clear in the community who wrote the code then how are you supposed to credit them?? Just relax before calling people out without any facts...
edicspaz he was PM'ed before leaving the server with simple instructions on how to do this thing legit (and PMs stay there even if you are not in the server). So unless you prefer to play dumb I'd suggest to know your facts before jumping into assumptions. Everyone loves ez to follow vids, but nobody loves someone that cuts corners in order to provide them, with work others did and not even give a single mention. Bottom point is, if he cared enough the way was super easy to find and not tweeting about how he has kids to take care and how he's an adult while others are kids. If someone wants to be called an adult he should first start acting like one and not throw excuses or use their kids as shield for a mistake. Taking responsibility is part of being an adult. Giving credit where credit is due is too
What’s the internal specs for this like, compared to a SNES Classic? specifically could this run more games than modded SNES and Nes Classic mini editions?
Could you perhaps test a few games for us? Stock Car Racer Gran Turismo 2 Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 Star Wars Demolition Scooby Doo and the Cyber Chase Would potentially sway me towards buying one if these would work!
Not sure if it's just me, but on Tekken 3 I changed it to NTSC (why would you leave it on PAL). But the thing is, the characters do not unlock on Arcade Mode when you complete it. I haven't switched it back to PAL/Auto and tried it with the flash drive still inserted yet though. The game also has modes missing (Theatre, Bowling and Ball - although, easily rectified if you own the original disc). So I suppose a bit of a heads up changing regions. I am from the UK though, my unit has the PEGI rating, so I'm not sure if it's that effecting things either.
Hey MLP!!! just trying to get my 2tb Seagate HD to work with my PS1 classic but no go. Do I need one with ac? I mean extra power? Ive seen people using a HD like mine and it has a cord with 2 outputs so ones plugged into the console and one in his laptop so he's got extra power for it. I'm guessing thats why mine isn't working? It'd b great to just put every PS1 game on a HD. Atm I'm rocking 2 32gb and 2 64gb USB's and yeh u can see my dilemma. Its not bad I just want it all on one HD.
I'd give it only about another month before we start seeing Mario 64 running on this. lol
(and then NES, SNES, Genesis, SMS, CD32 etc. etc. It should work fine for all of those.)
Dont waste your money fam this is something you should get for 30 quid
I'd pay the $100 if it came with a Dualshock.
@@urbanmidnight1
That's the thing - in the UK, it's more like $150.
It then won't require a 1.5GHz SoC to run properly, it will all run at the exact same speed as the original console, still support upscaling for HDMI, native RGB / Component output for CRTs, ISO loading from uSD card or USB, and all with super-low latency. ;)
@@TooFurious4
That's a fair point.
So for anyone else who has the same problem I do:
I followed all the steps of both tutorials but could not get game 21 to show; I still can’t get it to show BUT I can get everything else to work. The other problem I had was that the classic wouldn’t boot cue files and would crash. This was solved by making individual folders for each game and putting the cue in those...not sure why this is what fixed it but it works.
I’m almost convinced that kind of like Nintendo, Sony knew this was going to be hacked. So they decided to make it easy rather than pay some of the crazier license fees.
superleggenda in this case it wouldn’t surprise me.
@@gcforreal I did not know about it until this channel did a video on it a couple of months ago. Now, they are rare and in demand. I had to bid on it on Ebay. Others were priced around $150 plus shipping costs.
@@christophermcbride2522 damn might sell mine then Lmao.. I literally don't use it I was disappointed that only a small number of vita games were officially supported and not all
@@gcforreal there's a hack that allows you to play all Vita games, but it depends on the latest firmware. The one I bought is brand new.
@@christophermcbride2522 yeah back when I got mine I saw that Idk I just lost interest in it. It's a cool little system could of been great hit just like the handheld vita which is amazing Sony just abandoned it and made very questionable decisions
How do you unbrick your ps1 classic if that happens? If it's easier maybe you could do a video about how to do that. Great videos about this.
Somebody needs to write a new Christmas story called 'How the Playstation Classic Hackers Saved Christmas'.
"Bricked, but I was able to easily recover it' - Not quite what "bricking" something means.
Where do you get your emulator files? Do you have a particular website/library that you pull the files from?
just discovered i wasnt subbed idk how 😂 glad i did today
Hourly updates! You’re a machine this week!
Any thoughts on Xenogears from PSP? Should work right? Have you tried any games that were originally multi disc games? I'd love to see a video on that
Great vid!👍 thanks man
Great video as well as the last one but I want to know is there any action replay or xploder cheat roms that can be loaded onto the PS1 classic mini because back in the day I played games fully then play them using cheat disc's
Anyone having a problem with the select + triangle option not working?
Yup
Same here
Yes.
Don't work for me
ya cmon what's the deal.. can't get in
Thank you, gonna watch you all trouble shoot before I mess with it!
have you tried to improve the graphics?
so Sony didn't lock the menu it's like a easter egg
The paths in the give me the feeling someone has exposed more the system internals than is being reported.
Hey Ron, what about 2 player games? Can you use a USB hub to keep the flashdrive plugged in along with a 2nd controller?
Have you tried with a usb hub, keyboard flashdrive combo, usb 2.0 or 3.0? How large of a drive have you used? Thanks. Ill be showering after a run in with that like button.
Thank you for the tutorial
The usb drive is it fat32 or ntfs?
Can you run any format (iso and bin) or only pbp using this method
I thought you were going to use a SQLite editor on that db file to add more games to the menu. It would be more work and possibly only work with .bin/.cue, but it would definitely be slick. The directions on the github seem to say you can do this. I doubt it would brick the console, since it's seems to read the hack off the USB at boot, so it might worth a try.
Now we need Dual Shock support.
Great news MLP.
I would like to see how the picture looks over one of them fancy mCable HDMI cables with the built in anti aliasing.
Like putting a bandaid over a severed leg.
This is so great to see
I love this stuff!, I love being a nerd!
Why not use the portable equivalent to the ps1 classic, The PSP.
Think it's time for companies like Sony and Nintendo to employ more people from the Modding scene and get the "mini" consoles right the first time
Hype!
Heh... "This" is why I didn't cancel my preorder. I knew someone was going to hack and mod the console. :)
Btw, a question about the USB. Have you tried running both the thumbdrive and the second controller at the same time using a hub? And if you have, have you, or do you know if, the 4 player games can run the 3rd and 4th controller through the hub?
It's only getting better, Yes Yes Yes PBP's
Since we have to get in-game before we change roms and we hit reset the save will replace the one we have for the game, it means we only get one save for all games we try out...how are save states working inside pcsx? Have you tried this? Can I use a slot per game for instance? Let's say I open up Intelligent Qube and I'm using that game to open every extra game I have, can I use for instance, slot 1 for intelligent qube, slot 2 for tomb raider, slot 3 for resident evil 2, etc?
You just put this up!!! Damm!!
Nice bro 👍 this might be a silly question but can you recommend a process/guide on how to rip games off ps1 game disks?
Select and triangle doesn’t open the menu for me
PS classic is only $75 right now on Amazon i bought one only because it's hackable now can't wait to see if Digimon world runs on it
i see that crash is running a little slow, or is in the video only? Because if custom games run slow, there's no point at all
The awkward moment when you post other's stuff as your own and leave Discord server when called out. Way to go on the epic fail!
Where in the video did he say he discovered or invented this exactly?
Giving credit where credit is due is too
You get easily upset by the smallest things, don't you?
What’s the internal specs for this like, compared to a SNES Classic? specifically could this run more games than modded SNES and Nes Classic mini editions?
PS1 games are huge. Probably will have to have a usb storage plugged in or mod the board.
Could you perhaps test a few games for us?
Stock Car Racer
Gran Turismo 2
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3
Star Wars Demolition
Scooby Doo and the Cyber Chase
Would potentially sway me towards buying one if these would work!
People, everyone on reddit working for new features, i feel if you wait one week, we'll be able to do anything with psc cause of new os. See you soon!
Very nice, i think it will be best to wait it out for something for the public though, in my opinion.
ok, is there a way with bleemsync or autobleem to have this secret menu? I dont want to buy a keyboard just to reach this menu. Thnks!
They never added "crash bandicoot, Spiro, resident evil 2" due to all of them being remade/remastered
Bet your glad you got the classic now. ;)
Despite the hack, I return my classic. Once I can use an analogue controller I may repurchase. It’s still early, see where this goes.
This is bad on Sony's part, the fact its been ripped apart and hacked so fast says a lot.
Now we need a 64GB USB with the complete PSX Library to get on eBay or some place!
I am from the UK though, my unit has the PEGI rating, so I'm not sure if it's that effecting things either.
you did NOT add the correct files in that link, it does not have "GAMES" file in it, please respond
Hey MLP!!! just trying to get my 2tb Seagate HD to work with my PS1 classic but no go. Plus because I'm greedy :p I wanna go through a list of every PS1 game :p It'd just be satisfying.
When playing games off the USB does it save the games like to memory card alright or is that an issue?
