  • I didn't try hard to make this a fancy, cool, video--but I tried to make it a comprehensive comparison between the Flame King CHS10 and the Mr. Heater Portable Buddy propane heaters.
I actually did A TON of tent heater tests if you want to see more information on that, you can check it out here: • Are Tent Heaters Safe?
Out of the 7 heaters I tested, I think the Portable Buddy was the best out of all of them, you can see another test lineup where I evaluated the heat and efficency of the Portable Buddy against several other heaters. That video is here: • Best Tent Heater (Indu...

The dial is not for gas flow, the dial controls the thermostat (temp setting). The heater is either on or off. It did that on high setting because it reached the set temp and then shut down. It's a great idea on the surface, but was executed terribly. Especially with the unburnt gas and CO dangers.

actually i think it works the same as the buddy heaters, the dial is actually meant to change the flow of gas. when I was testing I noticed the flow of gas was lessened with the dial, and also the manual shows the flame king has a 5000 BTU and 10000 BTU mode

??? No mention of the Flame King thermostat feature.... Yes, it is not built as well. Agreed. However, having a working thermostat vs no thermostat is a major difference IMO.

Same as the previous comment stated, the flame kind heater is thermostatically controlled and not on constantly like the buddy heater. That's the main reason they stand apart and why people would go with it over the buddy heater. A better video for you would be to test the temperature range.

if that's the way it worked it wouldn't light at all on low temperature. I was doing these tests in the 32-45f range. not sure if my unit was defective--or perhaps it was a slapped on feature that barely worked
