Very likely Syd friendzoned him. When you ask someone out and they respond in shock, it's usually because they never saw you in that light. Then her response after to him cemented it.

It definitely is meant to be and probably more to her coming from Carmy who pretty much changed her life, but its not the same for Carm. She might be feeling the inimacy but that's all that the show has shown. The fans are kinda stupid with their divide. If they have to focus on each other it has to be as professional chef partners, not lovers. Carmy clearly fucked up and regretted saying that even when he meant it at the time. Can't wait for season 3.

i know y'all aren't gonna hear this but good friends and supportive people (yes, people of the opposite sex too) can be that for you without something romantic being involved. sydney is 100%, bonafide, military grade ride or die and he knows that and that relief can be extremely potent when he's basically reaching for the stars. that does NOT mean that he wants to cuddle up to her late at night; ambition and dreams and that pursuit of greatness is an entirely different kind of headspace and mindset and while romance helps, it is not the end all be all; devotion is, and that doesn't need any kind of romance or affection to be powerful.
it doesn't happen often and almost never in media, but this show is mature enough to have that happen. intimacy =/= romance, and when it comes to emotional themes, something complex and atypical like that fits right in with everything else in the show. it could ALSO be that it was romantic, me personally i enjoy the possibility of either

Even if you check out the very first time he sees her when he'd forgotten she was coming in for a job, it's like his heart stops and he gets a little flustered talking to her. I agree because they have been through so much in a short time. I still think the point is they are close and yet not romantic. That would be a bad move and lazy to me. Claire has history with Carmy, but not as strong for the viewer. Claire herself, or the actor I should say, is great.

  • @anniepsh9363
    @anniepsh9363 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +24

Regarding Syd & Carmy, it was the way that 2 lines were delivered by the actors that hinted at possibly something deeper. First, when Carmy quickly jumps in to say “I wouldn’t want to do this without you” - it was a visceral response. He spit that out almost before she finished speaking. Second, when Syd whispers, “you make me better at this.” I think that scene was just intended to be a heart-to-heart talk about their business relationship. It felt like something more because they were being vulnerable with each other. They weren’t flirting, and I never got the sense that Syd was ever jealous of Claire for romantic reasons. She was just pissed that Carmy was making business decisions based on his talks with Claire instead of her. THAT SAID, that discussion under the table felt more intimate than any scenes that Carmy has with Claire. There is great chemistry between these 2 actors, but if anything ever ends up happening between them, I hope that it’s a very slow burn. I’m more invested in a story about running the restaurant than I am about romance.

Roshi asked why for example Mcdonalds doesn't have a Michelin star so I wanted to explain the history of the Michelin star, and why Mcdonalds doesnt have one.
Michelin stars were originally a way to get more people to buy Michelin tires, they wanted to create a demand for more cars and in turn more tires. So they created a "Michelin guide" that included how to repair and change tires, but also included maps with places to visit and more specifically recommendations on restaurants and hotels. The Michelin guide was free at first but after a while they realized that people don't really take it seriously if you get it for free so they upped the quality of it, had "mystery diners" go to restaurants and hotels to and review them. It then evolved into a rating system for restaurants and hotels. However this rating system is slightly different from other rating systems, to get a Michelin star you have to apply for one and when you do they have different people come to your restaurant anonymously and rate you on a couple different factors, including how good the food tastes, the presentation, how fair the price is, and also how consistent the service is across all the different reviewers. The most amount of stars you can get is three and that is only awarded to the best of the best restaurants in the world. There is no criteria for what type of restaurant you have to be to get a Michelin star so technically if they wanted to a Mcdonalds could get a Michelin star, however that is very unlikely.
thanks for listening to my ted talk.

Cause I remember watching a documentary about different food spots (don't remember the name of the program, it's on Netflix) and there was one street spot in, I think Thailand, that has like 1 or 2. And I think it's so cool. Cause when u hear Michelin stars, u think about those fancy exclusive food spots. And while those are a good chunck, they're way more inclusive. The Carmy and Sid scene was the two taking turns being a kind of therapist for one another. One lays on the floor like they would a therapist's couch, while the other talks them through the real issues they are having trouble voicing about themselves, especially the troubles in regards to how they are dealing with opening and running "The Bear". When it comes to this game, they are totally in sync; it's all the other noise that gets in their way and distracts them both. It's only in these types of interactions, where they spend time and truly talk to one another that they are both grounded in the mission of making "The Bear" a real success, even through all of the noise in their life, whether it's family or their love lives.

I think yall are in denial about Carmy’s and Sydneys dynamic. I agree with Roshi In the way that their bond translates to something a bit deeper. In Carmy’s panic attack; the happy moments of Claire are interlinked with his familial trauma because she’s tied to his past. I think the connection comes from the fact his family (Richie, micheal, & that nerdy guy) kept pushing him towards her during a really traumatic night. He heavily associates her with negative emotions he has to the past, and with his family. He links his family with trauma, dysfunction, fear, and stress & that triggers him. I think the panic attack digresses with the thought of Sydney (the only person in the show that has no ties to his family) because he views her as a calming influence & the thought of him to her means alot to Carmy he really cares about what she thinks in general. Thats why in the flashback she says something like “he’s the most excellent chef at one of the best restaurants in the country“ which essentially calms him down. They both genuinely love what they do and acknowledge and admire each other as great chefs. In a way Syd represents a fresh start for him to purse his own path forward away from the guilt and anxiety he’s so accustomed too.
P.S the song to Strange Currencies by R.E.M plays when Syd appears during his panic attack. The same song plays when Carmy & claire 1st meet in the show. The lyrics have a deeper meaning than a platonic relationship would suggest.

Syd & Carm are definitely long-term endgame. She's the one who truly calms him, who understands him. Claire has a past with him, sure, but many have mentioned how she can often register as a manic pixie dream girl who re-enters his life to show him the joys of love. But we have little idea who Claire is outside the context of being with Carmy. We see Sydney through it all, and even though she and Carmy can butt heads, _she_ is the one that grounds him, centers him.
Also. If the show didn't spell it out enough, the risotto dish (Carmy helped her strain the etouffeé stock, which is distinctly Creole, just like Syd's dad describes of her mom, and we even see her mom serving her the risotto in a brief flash during her dream sequences) with cola-braised short ribs that Syd keeps dreaming about and working on is her literally *combining* her family's signature dish with Carmy's (beef). No wonder she felt hurt when Carmy told her to keep working on it and perfect it, because whether or not he realized it, he rejected the idea of them together.
But. He said it's almost there. So let's hope with time, as Syd perfects the dish, she and Carmy can perfect being able to talk about their feelings.

AIN'T NO WAY yall haven't peeped that Syd & Carmy have a possible slow burn romance brewing since S1 lol. It's so obvious they have feelings for each other but both of them just don't know it YET(or they just dont wanna acknowledge it). If you go back and watch S2E3: when Sydney arrives at the restaurant... look at Carmy's body language when he's near Sydney & then pay attention when the camera cuts to Richie... he peeps there's something between them but he's not gonna say anything!😂I don't understand how ppl like Carmy & Claire together... the panic attack scene literally explains that their relationship isn't good for him, Claire BRINGS OUT THE PAST ESP. HIS TOXIC FAMILY MEANWHILE, He thinks about Sydney who brings out the bright future for him(the restaurant) come on now! I'm completely fine with Syd & Carmy just being platonic friends for now because Carmy is not in a good place to be in a relationship and Syd is HEAVILY determined for her star. If they were to get together, it would only happen in the series finale. & if they don't once the series if finished I'd still be fine lol I am perfectly fine with the plentiful slow burn scenes(more like the table scene) the writers are giving us viewers between them for the next onward season(s). I just love both actors on screen chemistry... it's just too good 🔥 lol
Another thing I’d like to add:
    1. Syd also has no problem putting Carmy in his place when he’s not doing the right thing and Carmy always uplifts her when she’s feeling negative.
2.someone on twitter & tik tok pointed out Syd and Carmy have somewhat similar tattoos. Syd: 3 of swords in a heart and Carmy with a knife in a hand (idk can someone explain the meaning lol)

As someone who used to feel a lot like Carmy, its really not a matter of whether you prioritise a relationship or something else. Its actually about active problems vs. passive problems.
In Carmy's life, Claire is a passive problem: he doesnt organise time to spend with her or try and fit her into his life actively. He drops whatever he's holding when she calls around because he's terrified of this one really good positive thing ending, the 'other shoe to drop'.
The problem is, this turns work from an active problem to a passive problem, because suddenly what was planned and organised has been instantly derailed, and he feels powerless to catch up when he gets back.
It seems like a terrible issue, until you realize it isn't. As the guys on the couch aptly put, he could just call claire back, or set an alarm to call the fridge guy and answer claire's call.
This would still leave him with both problems, but have an active solution already in the works.
Its weird, but when the brain gets overwhelmed finding ways to make your problems concrete and making choices on when to deal with them is the only way to survive. This is a classic mental health issues when people are high functioning depressives like Carmy.
So Carmy draws the wrong conclusion: Claire is taking away from my focus at work, when in truth its his own fears that are doing that.
Claire has the potentail to massively improve his time at work by making him calmer and reducing his stress levels down, but instead of solving the illness with a cure, Carmy is reaching to prevent symptoms.

I think that a big reason as to why Carmy and Claire progress so fast is because although we don't know them that well (Claire especially), these two have known each other for a LONG time, since childhood/teenage years. I personally think that they're chemistry really sold that, and it is appropriately awkward at times cuz although they knew each other... they ARE different people now. Kinda like reconnecting with a childhood crush. And yeah, I know some folks didn't like the show veering away from the restaurant, and I get it. But by the end of the season, the show def justified the time it spent on the two.
