    I know that dinner table scene is the main stand out for this episode, but man... John Bernthal's performance in the closet scene just sticks with me. Specifically after Carmy leaves the room and he's just stuck to deal with his own thoughts for more than three seconds. No wonder he did what he did, being the only one left to deal with his mother and drowning in debt. This episode is perfect.

    • @thekaijusleeps
      @thekaijusleeps 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +62

      I was discussing it with a friend and that one scene in the closet is crucial because it's literally the only time we see Mikey alone.
      Every other scene or memory with him prior to this builds Mikey up to being this larger-than-life person, but for a few seconds we get to see some of what Mikey was really struggling with. It's absolutely heartbreaking watching this episode knowing what happens to Mikey later, even if it really wasn't anyone's fault as to what happened.
      The best thing to take away from this is to check in with the people closest to you, even if they appear to have everything together. You just never know.

I remember when Christmas/ holidays were a big deal in my family (we have chilled out since then) and my mom would ALWAYS be stressing over everything and Id offer help and she would fuss at me for it and then complain that nobody helped her. The weeks leading up to events would be stressful! It was nowhere near this chaotic but I know that feeling of trying to be the problem solver of the family. I think thats why she was so hovering with Carmy in the first season. She has the role of the worrier which ppl view as annoying and overbearing but she probably has anxiety over things being able to go wrong at the drop of a hat and so shes always trying to stay ontop of things to an over the top level.

      I can relate to Natalie a lot as the "worrier" in my family. I check in with people, that's just how I am but I have seen so many situations like the ones with Nat and a family member. My grandmother used to be really mean to my momma despite my mom being the one who helped her out financially and emotionally. My mom was a great daughter to her and my grandma did not treat her well at all. I think she had some undiagnosed mental issues but I definitely feel for Nat, especially when the mom was grabbing her face. I think the parallels between Micky and his mom actually make what happened to Micky even sadder. He was going through it as much as she was and at every turn she had people asking if she was fine, trying to fix her up i.e uncle Lee when he tried to bring her in on his buidling, she had people being sensitive of her fuck ups like Micky himself telling Natalie not to ask her if she's ok, she had Carmy constantly telling her he is happy to be back even if he probably wasn't__ Whilst Micky on the other hand had no one thinking to ask him if he was ok coz they all assumed he was just being a charismatic asshole, he had the "supposed to be mentors" in his life picking at his weakness and in public no less, like even if you wanted to be real with a family member you would never say shit in front of everyone else so that it's not only criticism but now its embarrassment...no lie uncle Lee was just so annoying, I bet even at Micky's funeral he said something stupid and snarky. If Micky had at least even a quarter of the attention his mom did then maybe his situation may not have escalated as fast__.

    i don't know if anyone has said this but i'll say it anyway. the episode with marcus showed him walking around in noma where carmy went to study. my favorite subtle detail which i'm not sure is confirmed was when carmy said he loved when a new guy went into the kitchen he felt like he could smoke that guy. the dude who's training marcus said that he thought he was the best until this guy who came in was faster and more efficient than him and i believe that to be carmy. i'm not sure if it's true but it feels like it makes sense.

    Something to note is that Mikey didn’t wanna keep Carmy away from the beef bc it was a dump, he was keeping Carmy away from himself.
    At this point Carmy was a VERY good chef and if they worked together they’d be successful, the issue is that Mikey knows he’s fucked up. That’s why when Carmy gives him the picture he waits till he’s gone to break down bc he knows he’d only bring Carmy down if he was around him like that. He wants to but he also knows his addiction would bring them both down in his eyes which ultimately leads to him isolating himself from Carmy before his death
