Just putting effort into a relationship doesn’t detract at all from who you. From someone who’s nearly 20 and hasn’t dated but has listened to a lot of philosophy videos w/people like Alan Watts: “love is an act of free fall” (Watts, idk what year, but probably 1958). It is about surrender, but even if you surrender who you are to another person you aren’t separating your being (inhibitions) from who you are. You are only sharing those inhibitions. So why do you feel emptier? It’s not about becoming less of yourself, it’s about being stuck on the past. But why should you be stuck on the past? After all, what’s the value of learning? Use these past elements to improve yourself however that may be. Ruminating can be a painful process though so tread lightly.
@@drewpocernich2540 Well said. However, I do think there is an identity crisis that occurs in people after leaving a long-term relationship. After living with another person for so long, your perception of who you are begins to change. What becomes important is not just yourself but instead your significant other, and this certainly warps your perspective (this can be very good or very bad). Coming out of a relationship like this requires you to redefine how you interact with the world, how you approach problems, how you deal with pain, and who (if anyone at all) you can confide in. This "loss" I speak of is so palpable that it feels like learning how to crawl again, whereas before you could run a marathon. While everything you say is true, sometimes it takes years to bring your head out of "what could be" into "what we can be". Alan Watts does have some good points!
Real love: Is when the person you love makes you face your real self. All your issues and your non sense. It’s when you realize that they’re right and all you want is to get better...figuring yourself out to become a better version of yourself and wanting the same for them, without knowing if they’ll be part of your future or not. If both feel the same then everything is possible. Love remains.
What if this IS all I am? Then I will take it as it comes. I will be myself and when it is my time to go, I hope they remember me for who I was, not what Ive done. When we slip into that deep dark, we ask our selves, is this all i am or am i something more. You're blind until your eyes fully open to the world and its beauties. Thank you Yugen, for i can take a fresh breath of air.
