The Vervet Forest is a wildlife rehab series focused on Vervet Monkeys at the Vervet Monkey Foundation . The series showcases the process of taking orphaned and injured vervet monkeys through a foster mother program which helps these rescued orphan baby monkeys to be adopted by foster mother monkeys. I started watching about 6 or 7 months before Kyle left and yeah it's so amazing and informative. Love all these ppl, don't you just wish you could just reach into the screen and help some days? ..lol

If I were younger I'd volunteer like a shot, but I'd never cope with the heat and physical work. The foundation needs young, strong, fit people. They are all amazing.
Even though the rescue didn't make it, he was able to be calm and feel safe, and I'm sure feeling the love in his last few hours of life. It's comforting to know yall love the animals so much, through their last minutes. Even when things look grim. No one backs away or turns him away. He's accepted with love and was humanely euthanized. That's really cool of you all. This is my first time commenting, so this moved me.

I think Flokes is like many humans, he needs to be needed. He misses his position of keeping the little ones in line and little Leila needs help, he senses that. It's an added bonus that she's so pretty.
I adore Floki for so many reasons! Its so wonderful to see his progression. I loved when he was first in Disneyland and he protected the babies the best he could. I would say he has a big heart.

There is nothing they could be carrying that would be detrimental to our health, important points are dont put your hands in your mouth before washing them and wash your hands before working with them - follow those rules and you will be as safe as anything
Do the Samangos live with the other monkeys in the bush? They are not belonging to a troop...So how do they live?

Did males do it? Like, you know when macaque males "get rid" of a females nursing baby, so they will go into heat faster, so they can impregnate them quicker? I'm hoping this isn't what happened here. I literally JUST saw this happen, thats why I'm asking. Damn bastage males. It is soo incredibly sad. Baby didn't even see it coming. :(
it can happen when territorial fights breakout with the bandit troop or males fighting for ranking, females can only give birth once a year so killing there offspring does not help in anyway

I returned 2 weeks ago from a several-times postponed 2 week trip to SA wildlife reserves. Met a number of SA guests at them this time (due to lack of international tourists). I was surprised to learn that the prevailing view of vervets among these folks was that they are pests. That seems a pity.

The voices of the girl volunteers betray their extra love for injured and physically challenged monkeys, particularly the indomitable Floki and little Leila too. Maybe because monkeys like that are the ones who need more love. Dave, the eternal optimist sounds confident that Floki will be indistinguishable from any other adult male in a few years. I hope so too but in the meantime I know you will all do your best to find him a place where he can heal some more and live his best monkey life.
I enjoyed seeing Quinn who had the digestive troubles released into Engletje intro with what looked like all of Engletje troop rubbernecking outside the wire. They don't miss much because it looked like they had all arrived there while the boys were still negotiating the crush cage into the airlock. I suppose that any human activity around the intro enclosure tips them off that something interesting is about to happen. Quinn was more interested in the heaped food tray left just for him.
What a great episode you guys put on! Floki certainly has earned his keep looking after the babies. It's upsetting to hear of the trouble and I hope there's a resolution soon. ☮️

I stopped at 23:14 because it was obvious that little Geordi wasn't going to live. He had a blown out pupil and even IV glucose may not have saved the sweet little guy. Geordi would have been brain damaged even if he lived. :( :(
On the bright side what a great video with brave and sweet Floki. Durkul not letting him mum get far away from him tugging on her back. These orphans truly need and get such comfort and love thanks to your love and dedication.
Luckily the subtitles help me, but thank you Dave for speaking very clearly. It's amazing follow you up. Hope things are getting smoother.

I understand why you call the monckey mother as foster parent. However, I think that the mothers are adopting the orphans monkeys. Plz continue God's work.
Aww bless little Durkulese is not letting mum go anywhere. It’s magical to see the bond being so strong. All he wants is back to his family.
