The rescuer did an excellent job as first caregiver to her. She is well acclimated and ready for transitioning without too much stress. Well done.

Hi Cristina I couldn't agree more. I've been trying to encourage people to spread the word as well. When I see videos that have thousands more views than there are subscribers I want to yell through my screen "If you enjoy the videos then please subscribe". I don't think people understand that it helps VMF to leave comments, thumbs up, and obviously subscribe.

Darn! Floki has stolen my heart. A strong and brave name, means a "heroic great Viking warrior" fits him. How he managed by to endure the pain from his injury and survive. I hope the surgery goes well. In history Floki was the first to sail to Iceland from Norway. He returned to Norway and wasn't very fond of the island he found but later he returned to Iceland to live there until he died.
I don't remember if you mentioned an estimated older of Floki in previous episode but I really want to know how old you think he is.
    Thank you for this episode!

Floki is one of my favorite vikings, the perseverance in him was unbelievably astounding, and I think this name is absolutely perfect for this special wee fella! He has some uniquely cool markings. He is quite fuzzy & just really beautiful. His demeanor seems pleasant - I am rooting for Floki, as well! (shhhh- I root for all of them, but he has captivated me, as well! )

oh, I dont know if you watch the show Vikings, but I literally JUST saw the trailer for the new season where Ivar & the Rus army invade Bjorn & the Clan. I wont tell you any spoilers, I am soo pumped it is back, it has been one of the best shows about Vikings. I also love the Last Kingdom, its a period piece show about the Danes invading England in its infancy, fighting The Saxon Army. Very entertaining.

Despite the horror of what Floki has endured, he is an amazing hero. I follow your Instagram page, so I kind of knew what had happened before watching this video, but I was still full of surprise and delight, because of your wonderful narration, Dave and others. As another reader said, Dave you do an amazing job narrating and explaining these videos to us- thank you so much for including us. You all work so relentlessly and passionately, Floki, Cupcake and the others are in the best place possible. I loved the spring in Floki's step when he arrived at Disneyland! Great things are to come for him and the others- that is the truth. God bless all of you! p.s. Noone has mentioned on TH-cam that your one and only car- for everything- broke down- or maybe I missed it. Have you been able to raise enough money to get it fixed? I hope so.

Cupcake is well-named and adorable! Floki, the poor brave darling! I have to wonder how the healed cranial fracture happened - not a good thing by far! Is it really helpful to move Floki to a larger space and encourage more walking, more exercise on the dislocated limbs? I would have thought quiet and less movement would have been more helpful. Did the vet advise exercise? Bless you all for all you put into God's creatures who need you so.

When I first saw Floki walking, before we ever got to the point where he had x-rays and a vet exam, it immediately mode me think of subluxations of the hip sockets seen in babies where the dislocated hips are not diagnosed at birth and splinted or cast - something rarely seen now except in areas of the world where there is just no medical care of infants. But if you happen to see a toddler with a problem due to this tying to learn to walk, its very similar. Of course this can happen in any mammal but in most that walk all the time on 4 feet its may not developed into a problem until they are older and having tp bare adult weight. He definitely walks/hops because of problems with both hips, not one, even if one is worse than the other.
No one seemed to know how prevalent this could be in primates and some suggested that it might happen more then we are ever aware as the baby in the wild probably would die due to its mobility issues long before it would be at risk for ending up in a rehab or sanctuary with the issue. The fact that one side is definitely. or was definitely. dislocated but there is also issue with the other hip, seem like that would be more of a birth problem then someone just jerking him and dislocating a hip would be an odd injury to sustain at that age. I know the vet thinks trauma, perhaps as that is what it would look like without thinking that it was due to an odd fetal positioning or a birth deformity and assuming taht it was connected to the head injury, which while it could have eventually lead to the head injury might not have happened at teh same time.
Is it possible, with such a mobility issue as would be caused by hip subluxation or dislocation at birth, that the baby was unable to properly grip to mom or a limb, or balance as needed may have had a falling injury early on when it reached an age that one would expect it to be moving away from mom a bit and took a fall from a height causing a skull fracture? Of course its is hard to tell from a video of an x-ray but the hips tend to look like they could be a birth deformity or birth injury while the skull fracture, while old, does not seem that old. It also begs the question, if it is a birth deformity, if surgery, as in a femoral head removal, is the firs thing to attempt. If it is due to dislocation from a birth deformity and there other hip joint is also abnormal, its almost guaranteeing that the same with have to be done on the other side. Of course how much growth he may still have to go in which there maybe a chance to remedy the deformity or being prepared to remove the other femoral hip as soon as the worse side is healed and formed a pseudo hip.
And do not forget that more than a head injury can be the cause of some cognitive delay, in humans, great apes and primates, early mobility issue and impairments can cause delays as the baby cannot do things others would do at certain ages, even such as climbing, crawling, walking, exploring etc, and that in turn slow all areas of normal development. Because the baby could not move properly from birth and had to develop other ways to achieve those things, from getting off the belly, to taking a step, to pushing up on the back limbs to grip and pull up with the front, first to be able to reach the teats to later and eventually climb, which would further be impeded by the hips, meaning the baby had to learn and invent their own development to manage to do those things. That would mean that their entire course of development is nothing like other babies, even if they are, for them, really on course. Also, from either a head injury or things that can go along with birth defects like hip abnormalities, you may have a visually impaired child and that also will impact development in a great many ways. It might be worth having the vision assessed in some way(even Face time with one of the animal vision experts in the states) as depending simply on pupil size and its reactions to light, the light8ng the baby has at least while developing until an adult age could mean a lot of usual vision can be developed

Cupcake is an adorable little girl vervet and it's too bad about the death of her mother. It must be traumatic for her to lose her mother but hopefully she can gain a great foster mom and be okay. She is only three weeks you said Dave and that's so young so maybe she'll have an easy transition to a new mother. Floki is doing very well for having such terrible injuries (head and pelvic) and let's hope that the surgery goes well. He is so cute getting around and I love how he is constantly stepping in his milk bowl. Everyone at VMF are so caring and helpful with the monkeys. Thanks for that everybody!!!
