Floor’s parents being at this show….How proud they must be to see the positive and joyous effect their daughter and this band has on thousands of people must be almost overwhelming for them. Sensory overload… Nightwish style. The band that can call it “The Greatest Show on Earth” and deliver on all points…incredible
Onnekas paskiainen. 👊 I agree 100%. Never forget. Simply outstanding feelings. Want to have those again. Waiting so much next World Tour 2020. My Black Jack. 21st Nightwish concert, next one.✊

When you go back and take a closer look at the lyrics, there are some pretty specific terms used that are peculiar to the field of science they are singing about. A lot of reactors ask questions about some of them. I put together this little glossary of all the ones I hear questioned from time to time. For your future reference: Archean horizons - A term from geology referring to the rocks of the Archeozoic Period of the PreCambrian Era. The spoken-word portions are narrations by Professor Richard Dawkins, evolutionary biologist from Oxford University. He held the Oxford Chair for Public Understanding of Science from 1995 to 2008. The excerpts are from his book. At the Wembley performance, he appeared on stage with Nightwish to speak the narrations. Pristine Gaia - Gaia was the ancient Greek goddess of the Earth, now often used to refer to the primordial ecosystem when all the continents were joined. Opus perfectum - Obviously Latin for "a perfect composition" or creation. Goldilocks Zone - A semi-formal term used by astrophysicists to describe the stable orbital zones around any star which are "not too hot, not too cold, but juuuust right" for the existence of liquid water, based on their diameter, heat and luminosity output, and radiation field. Obviously this refers to the region where a planet's environment is suitable for the development of life. LUCA - LUCA is an acronym for a formal term used by evolutionary biologists that stands for "Last Universal Common Ancestor." It is the most recent population group of organisms which shared common ancestry with every currently surviving species on Earth. Devonian - A geology term pertaining to the portion of the Paleozoic Era dominated by ocean fish, prior to the advent of amphibians and reptiles. Aeons - Aeons is just a fancy, ancient spelling of "eons," vast periods of time. Ion channels - A term used in biology and medicine to refer to the osmotic pressure balance maintained across cell walls by the relative concentrations of various metal ions in aqueous solution, usually sodium and potassium. The opening or closing of transport pathways through the cell walls for certain molecules, mediated by the ion balance, are called "ion channels." Thus, the "magic" of life is permitted to exist because the exquisite balancing of ion concentrations on each side of the membrane either open the channel and allow entry of molecules necessary for life or close the channel to exclude other molecules. Little Lucy of the Afars - Refers to the fossil remnants of the female dubbed "Lucy," found in the region of Africa that was known, in ancient times, as "The Territory of Isis and Afars" (nothing to do with the modern day meaning of that term "Isis") now roughly corresponding to the countries of Somalia and Djibouti. Lucy is believed to be the single known example of the common humanoid ancestor that spawned homo sapiens, Neanderthals, and Cro Magnons. ...And the Geico Caveman. LOL Ionia - Ancient Greece, often credited as the birthplace of modern scientific thought, logic, and learning. So, when Marco sings, "Enter Ionia" it is not saying that some person "enters" the City-State of Ionia. Rather, it is introducing the scene in the Greatest Show where the City-State of Ionia itself "enters" the world stage of history. Yes, Tuomas Holopainen is a deep thinker. And exceptionally intelligent. Much of symphonic metal in general, and Nightwish most specifically, is for fellow deep thinkers. That's why we dedicated fans love them so much. It is such a breath of fresh air to have great bands that are actually intelligent, sophisticated, consummate professionals when contrasted against the air-headed, fluffy crap babbled at us by overpaid spoiled brats that we are fed by the dysfunctional "entertainment" industry we suffer under here in the U.S. I had the honor of meeting these six Nightwish people in person in Miami last year, and they are just as nice, personable, and professional in person as they appear in interviews. Not a single diva among them! :D -----Cheers!
Watching your awed faces was priceless. These TH-cam reactions really have reminded me how much I take Nightwish for granted as a Finnish person. Our greatest export and gift to the world, really.
I have to admit I was one of the few that were skeptical about Floor when I first heard about her joining the band. After Anette took them down that pop kind of vibe. that being said I was grossly wrong, Floor is easily their best singer.
@@muumiveikko Ya Annette was a decent singer, but she just didn't have it in her to sing in that style of metal. But I think the band had a lot of issues with her because of their choices. She is the reason they chose to do the video for Bye Bye Beautiful the way they did. They were trying to illustrate that underneath all the tits and ass she was alluding. They were still the same band.
It is about evolution but not of humanity but of the universe as a whole. Wacken was a little under a year after Floor first joined the band. Check out the documentary 48 hours to learn the setlist. It is in Finnish but with English subtitles.
I saw them last year in a small venue in California...no fire...no effects...simple house lights...band was all in Jean's and Teeshirts...and they lit the place up...incredible.
That's another great thing about nightwish. Have seen them twice. Once in a stadium. Big show with all the theatrics. Then a little 3k venue. Just as good of a show. Just different theatrics.
@@damonbryan7232 I kinda figured they would go half effort or maybe save her voice during the concert since literally it was such a small venue but nope.
@@davesmith4778 I remember an interview where Floor told that it doesn't matter if they perform in a big or small venue, they make the exact effort 'cause first of all, they perform to themselves, they need to be satisfied and happy to their performance. In my country (Chile) they always perform in the same venue which is very small BUT the sound, energy, and effort is like Waken or Tampere.. they're just amazing and have an incredible work ethic.
You misunderstood, this was not bigger than Wacken. Wacken is the largest metal festival in Europe with about 80000 visitors. But this show was the final perfomance of their world tour in their home country, which is why they went all out on effects, so the production was bigger. There were about 20000 in that stadium.
The last show of the tour in Finland was in Himos in 2016. It was also an unofficial 20th anniversary show, which is why Sami and Jukka made guest appearances. :)
You guys ended the video too soon! Quotes by Richard Dawkins are very much worth listening and watching too. And seeing the band thanking the crowd and vice versa is amazing.
You forgot to mention that the song title is a reference to the book The Greatest Show on Earth by Prof. Richard Dawkins, the guy whose voice over you hear in de video.
Floor joined Nightwish as guest vocalist in the middle of the Imaginarium World Tour in October 2012 in Seattle. That was the concert where she had 48 hours to learn the entire set-list. With Wacken 2013, she had been with the band for about 9 months. What many people don't realize at first from this particular production is: Troy, the multi-instrumentalist, also sings backup here and on other songs. His vocals blend very subtly with the others.
You totally got the meaning the first time. The speech part at the end is also part of the song. In addition to the band saying farewell to the crowd gives you chills.
Exactly Brian!!!!! It was all about the very beginning of life! Floor started with the band about ten months before the Wacken 2013 show. There is a documentary on TH-cam about the 48 hours. Here is the link! th-cam.com/video/vhExkmWKMEU/w-d-xo.html When you get a chance you should listen to the ending of this song. It is technically the last part of the song and I for one think it is beautiful. Richard Dawkins is the voice speaking and he does more during the last part. This song is from their last album Endless Forms Most Beautiful. This is actually Floor's first album with the band with new songs. I know it is a lot to take in. I think they have a video on here with the lyrics. I am glad you are beginning to see what makes Nightwish so special......... :-)
The fireworks work with the music because of a Time Code track. Every song is on a computer, in Pro Tools, two of the tracks for each song are a click track and a Time Code track specifically for the Lighting & Effects(here the fireworks for example). So everything is timed, and even the band can never be off timing wise with a Click Track. Other tracks are the orchestra, choirs, backing vocals, yadda, yadda, yadda. What your hearing for real are the lead vocals, keyboards, drums, guitar and bass, and the several instruments Troy plays on stage.
Commenting late, and you may have been told already, but Floor started out with Nightwish as a fill-in, as a favor for Tuomas, the keyboard player. Her first stage appearance with the band after Anette left on September 29, 2012 was only 48 hours later in Seattle, WA on October 1st. The tour continued with the last concert being the Wacken venue on Aughust 11, 2013. Throughout the remainder of that tour, she was never an official member of Nightwish until Tuomas called her on October 9, 2013 and offered her the gig permanently. The news was made public on November 29th along with the release of the Wacken DVD. I will also add that Floor was in a band called ReVamp and recovering from burnout when she got the call in 2012. The evening of the Wacken Music Festival 2013, the universe was aligned perfectly, because that concert could not have been any better for all members. Glad you've enjoyed the journey thus far. Keep rockin'!! 😊❤🤘🤘
Just stumbled onto this band two days ago man what a band brilliant and what a singer what a voice band are brilliant floor is gorgeous I'm 65yo they're my new favourite band bazza
"Man, he took his time in the sun, Had a dream to understand a single grain of sand." is one of the most powerful lines for me. That really reminds me how insignificant but still awesome and important we are. Another NW song I cannot listen without crying,
Floor had her 1st show with the band in Seattle, Washington on 1 Oct 2012 and her & the band's performance at Wacken occurred on August 3, 2013, just over 10 months later. Floor got the call while at her sister's wedding asking her to join the tour and upon accepting, she was asked to "Please learn the setlist in 48 hrs" for the Seattle gig.
I love your reactions guys.I am 62 got the pleasure of seeing skynnard ZZTop Billy Joel and a few others live, great era.I didn't realize there was still great music out there til I stumbled across this insane group.Very powerful music. While I am here I would like to know if the night wish family would except an old gentleman on board if so give me a thumbs up if not sorry guys I'm listening anyway I'm hooked I have to see this show live.at least once My wife and I are split up after 30 yrs 2 tickets to a show like this I might just get her back😀
Marco & Floor duo singing is my future wish for all Nightwish songs. I so hope the new album will have 50% duo singing done to it, because that for me is just pure bliss of eargasming to hear.
@@adventureunderground7743 No 42 means nothing without the question, so the white mice scientist has to invent a computational matrix to search for the question, but the computational matrix doesn't work without life in it, and: Voila Here We Are , just let us hope the bureaucrat Vogons don't want to build an intergalactic highway and below our computational matrix before we knows the question.
Yes, the theme of this masterpiece is evolution and celebrating the diversity of nature. The band will release a new album again in spring 2020 and then go on a world tour. Tuomas has worked on the new music the whole year and they just finished the initial rehersals. They are fantastic musicians and totally devoted to music and the band. That's why they have carried on working together for such a long time.
Great reacreaction guys. Your Nightwish journey will never be boring. If you ever have the opportunity to see them live... take it! I live in Denver and they came here in 2012, 2015 and 2018. I seen all three shows and was impressed with each one. The 2012 show was definitely one for the history books. Lol
I watched a lot of reaction videos and you guys are one of the most symphatic ones.. cant wait to see more of you. I agree with your opinions in the end.
"The Greatest Show on Earth: Evidence for Evolution" is a 2009 book by Richard Dawkins. He is doing the narrative parts on the whole album. Because every Nightwish album has a theme and story from the beginning to the end.
Nice reaction, guys.... Shudder before the Beautiful, Last Ride of the Day and The islander are worthy... Enjoy this magnificent rabbit hole called Nightwish...
This is like one of those "science set to music" shows they'd put on at my local science planetarium when I was a kid, only more hard core. I don't know which is more impressive-the combined artistry of the musicians, vocalists, and lyrics, or the fans who love this music & know all the words. Much more intellectually challenging than the simple fun pop tunes on so many stations. Which I'm not bashing, mind you, just being aware that a good vocabulary is probably the first step towards being able to properly appreciate Nightwish.
Oh my god..love u guys so much ,thanks for this!😍 I really enjoy watching this and your reactions in overall 🤗 Brian and Stan u are such wonderful persons both of you 😉😂 WE WERE HERE!
the fireworks are timed using timecode - when designing fireworks shows we know the delay between trigger and explosion. So the backing track they have with the orchestrations will also have a time track that's fed to the fireworks controller to sync everything.
This song has a powerful meaning that makes you reflect on what you are doing today. That last line always makes me roll a tear. Great content up to today. The only point that I have to say is when you two are talking and we can´t hear what you're saying, is like we are missing something great.
You got it right Brian. It's about life on earth and it's evolution, and...did you catch the evolution of music within it also? Mozart to EDM, even a Metallica riff. The budget was bigger for this show. Not the crowd. The Wacken crowd was over 82,000 people. This one was a bit over 20,000. The budget was huge because of all the fireworks, the lighted island stage out in the middle of the crowd, just everything was really done up for this show in a big way. I love this concert so much. This song was the finisher. You guys stopped it, but the band walks out onto that island and has a bit of an intimate moment with the crowd, showing their appreciation. It's pretty cool. Wouldn't you love to be inside the mind of Tuomas to see how he comes up with all this stuff? The guy is a musical genius! 🤘👍💯
You are so right! I get the chills everytime. That last part has not only Richard Dawkins but I love the music played during that part. It is so beautiful!!!!!
Yea I really wish they did hear the ending and see the guys all walk out together, that shit gets me every time I see it!!! OH AND I heard that this was the FIRST time Floor’s mother got to see her daughter perform like this, so mom was just in front row crying the whole time lol floor said she couldn’t look at her mom while performing cuz she’d get too emotional too lol so I think with all of that this song/performance has def become my FAV, everything about it completely captivates me and still brings me to tears when I watch this!! Lol and the ‘We were here!’ part, forget it, this gets me still too lol
I'm sure others have commented, the whole show is about evolution, (Floor's dress is the dna double helix), the formation of the solar system, (big bang - fireworks), and the beginning of earth itself along with the intro of man (grunting) . Background narration by the incomparable Richard Dawkins, including one at the end after the credits you missed by ending way too early. There is a version of this with onscreen lyrics to follow Floor's early aria and more.
The title of the song is the same as Richard Dawkins' "The Greatest Show on Earth" book (which is about evolution). I think some of the lyrics might be from the book.
To expand on what Ann has said. Yes it is indeed about evolution. Tuomas was studying to be a biologist at the beginning of Nightwish, it got to the point where he had to make a choice of staying in school or doing the music thing full time. I for one am glad he chose the way he did. The name of the album Endless Forms Most Beautiful is part of a Charles Darwin quote from origins of the species. When they performed at Wembly arena Richard Dawkins comes on stage at the end of the song and recites it.
@@fdsannie so happy your back and hope your feeling better. Yeah, we need to root the Steelers on to the Super Bowl and have Nightwish for halftime show. Or maybe Steelers play first half and Nightwish second half:)
@@ricklong4218 Thanks I am glad to be back! I am feeling better for the most part. I have good days and not so good days. But Nightwish and the Steelers keep me going. Wouldn't that be great Steelers and Nightwish at the Super Bowl. LOL :-)
This was 10 months after the 2 days thing. Anette was fired on 9.30.2012 in Salt Lake Ciry, Floor's 1sr show was 10.1.2012 in Seattle. There's a documentary about this called Learn the Setlist in 48 Hours. The Wacken festival is beginning of August every year. You should react to the Wembley version of this, there are a number of musical differences, with a special guest at the end.
Great reaction! Evolution, good concept for art/music. I’ll leave that right there... What a fun Journey, thanks for sharing it with the fans! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🦊🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Tuomas ( band leader and composer ) called Floor and said: -your are in... take a flight memorize all the lyrics and lets bang.... it was basically that... Floor memorized almost everything in the flight ...
Let's talk about their crew. Most all of them have been with the band since the very beginning so they know what is required, Their sound tech Tero is also one of their studio recording engineers, Mika Jussila has been the one to mix and master nearly all their albums, Their management team has also been with them since the very beginning, so you can see why their shows are the pinnacle of perfection, no matter whether club or huge open air festivals.
The album is about the evolution of the earth... and this song was the last of the album.. hence the name.. greatest show on earth... it all started with the big bang when life begun.. and the during te song.. the earth delops.. and creatures begun there life... after that was the hunting.. and life of humans.. and it ended with.. we were here.. story and magical sounds of the earth.. hope you very much enjoyed.... greetingz from netherlands...
Not sure if it was answered, but a pyrotechnic board uses instant charges to fire the fireworks, so the wires to the board are most likely tied to keyboard, which act as the trigger mechanism. Great reaction! This is one of their best, and, as you pointed out, pendulum too.
If you like this you should definitely also take a look at Tuomas Holopainen's (the creative mind of the band) album called " The life and times of Scrooge". A real masterpiece
Wow! I had to come back and say thanks. I was hooked at the first note, this is absolutely wonderful (I'm 4 songs in) and I can tell that this is going to be one of my favourite albums. Wow!again and the album art is cool too.
A month or so ago I started a journey back south after a week long hike in the Finnish Lapland. The first song that came on was "A lifetime of adventure" from this album and I almost had to pull over because my sunglasses fogged up so badly. The combination of total exhaustion, not having heard any music in more than a week and the immense beauty I had been in the middle of was a powerful experience.
Great reaction! Stan, you looked mystified and confused. It is very understandable. Brian you got it! This grand concept is hard to capture in a 3 hour documentary let alone a 20 minute song. This is a song about evolution from the forming of the Planets (keyboard intro), to the forming of Earth (Pipes added & opera vocal). Opera lyrics Archaean horizon The first sunrise On a pristine Gaea Opus perfectum Somewhere there, us sleeping-(whispered by Floor) Then the evolution of Earth from a molten rock to develop flora and fauna. Enter LUCA (last universal common ancestor) LUCA is the most recent common ancestor of all current life on Earth. If you believe in Evolution vs Creationism. Then the evolution of animals and proto humans. We are one We are a universe Forbears of what will be Scions of the Devonian sea Aeons pass Writing the tale of us all A day-to-day new opening For the greatest show on Earth Enter Life Then comes the toolmaker- leading to homo sapiens. The ominous vocal and red molten backdrop should tell you a little bit about the bands ecological beliefs. With the beginning of MAN comes the beginning of the END. Thus the animals running from the fire, which represents man the HUNTER. Then the struggle not to kill ourselves off and the planet. Man, he took his time in the sun Had a dream to understand A single grain of sand He gave birth to poetry But one day’ll cease to be Greet the last light of the library We were here! Now for something a little lighter. Check out "Ghost River" or "Everdream" from Wacken 2013.
I'm just gonna put it out there that you may want to do this one again with the lyrics version. And definitely watch it to the very end. Just a suggestion. I love the way you guys do this stuff and absolutely appreciate the Nightwish and the Jinjer love.
Here in Finland, we had a competition for fireworks synced to music! It's a normal thing here :D but they had to stop because of the people at Helsinki complained for all the noise. Loved to go there with my family every year tho
I saw them in 2004 at Sweden Rock Festival, in pouring rain. It was fu**in' awsome. Tarja was incredible. But now Floor's gonna floor her in every aspect 🤟
First Tuomas's keyboards. "I AM GROOT." Cutting the speech off at end though. Bad form. Great message. Very powerful. Love your reactions though. Another great one.
One of the few bands that sounds better live than studio, not that studio isn't good... But live is over the top.. Also only 20k+ at this show, but Floors parents were in the front row of this concert. Also, you cut this short, you really should watch Nightwish videos till the very end and this one more than others.
In Wacken 2013 she had been almost a year with the band, not 2 days. However it was quite impressive what she was able to do when she had been those 2 days replacing the previous singer in the middle of the USA tour while it was all chaotic, depressive and messy.
A year ago, Chuck Norris decided to fight in a singer contest. Then he saw that his opponent is Floor. So, he took a deep bow in front of her and left the room backwards with his head held low.
you skipped the last 3/4 minutes :( it might be nice to try after forever, floor's first band (she used a lot more operatic in her old band) for example: monolith of doubt live, or beuatiful emptiness live
another great reaction i like the look on stans face dam wtf is this band doing to me, use the lyrics on these nightwish live masterpieces, no matter how good the singing and reading all those instrumentals are deafening, how the fuq do we replace marko, 2 people i think its fuqin rare to have a bassist sing like him, this band has to play the superbowl halftime show and coachella open air festival, with proper advertising i think 100k in the desert
Please The Poet and The Pendulum next 😊 You can also check: Epica - Consign to Oblivion (live at Zenith) or Chasing the Dragon (Retrospect show). Epica is a Symphonic metal band
This is a masterpiece about evolution, since de formation of the universe till today. The spoken parts (you missed 2 of them, the one where you finished and one other after that) it's the voice of Richard Dawkins, evolucionist biology. This song it's full of small details, you can even listen to a Metallica "Enter Sandman" riff in the part dedicated do the story of music. Like your reactions very much. Thanks for this one.
The song is about the history of the Universe from the Big Bang (fireworks at the beginning) to the creation of the Earth, to the birth of the human race, to the destruction of the planet due to whatever cataclysmic event...hence the "We Were Here" comment. That's why the background graphics went from blue waves (life) to fire (destruction).
Actually Floor had done some shows before Wacken, but she was still new to the band having joined the tour halfway. And of course she blew our minds there. Now some might disagree, but actually the shows at Wembley and Tampere are even better. At this point they have an album out with songs written for Floor, and she has also had time to get her personal take on the old stuff. The Tampere show is spectacular !!
Tuomas plays the keys, does some mixing, some effects and controls the backing track on the fly!!!! AND head-bangs/windmills!!! - HOW!?..... Writing 95% of the NIghtwish material too..... I wonder if he hears all of it in his head before he writes it..... and if it torments him because he can never forget it? Maybe it makes playing it more instinctive and natural than a conscious effort? New subscriber from Australia.
This is THE *longue* *durée* song... it's all inclusive and all covering and it's awesome - do yourself a big favour and see it to the very end - it`'s less of a mere "song" and more of a piece in the classical tradition, there's a lot of "Richard Wagner by the way of Hans Zimmer" in this composition ;). Very nice to see your reaction, it's ever so slightly more reflected and adult than most^^! Best regards Raoul G. Kunz
Thank you for another great reaction! Next or when you are ready, please react to "Poet and the pendelum" live from Wembley with lyrics and read on the story behind it... Thank you again!
It is about the evolution of our planet. I hope you watched the rest after you ended your video. The narrater Richard Dawkins quotes his writings and those of Darwin. I wouldn't have wanted to pay for the cost of the production of this concert I am sure it was huge, but as said in some interviews they are not out trying to get rich they are out trying to make music so I am sure the cost wasn't the main concern. Thanks for the videos you have been uploading for us.
What makes Endless Forms is that Tuomas wrote it with Floor in mind. Tuomas is uniquely gifted in that way. Imaginareum and Dark Passion Play are focused on Anette, Once and Century Child on Tarja. Tuomas is incredibly lucky that Floor has the pipes to do the Tarja songs and the personality to do the Anette songs.
It wasn't bigger as in more people, no way that they can fit more than 80k in there.. 24k I believe. It was a single concert to celebrate their 20 year anniversary and also was their biggest production. And firework timing is like all pyro timing, just know how long it takes to "start" and ... timing is all.
I did some research for you if you really wanna make a deep dive to the Nightwish ocean. Here's three lists of songs I got from different sources so you guys can get a better picture what the band has to offer. I have limited them to max 6 songs to keep it "tight". It's just so you get a better picture of the selection.
//Radio Songs// Here's some singles from the albums that are played at the rock radio stations all over Europe. Wish I Han An Angel Nemo Amaranth Sleeping Sun Ever Dream //My Favorite Songs// To be honest, my favorite songs are all songs from Wacken 2013. They made a live album of it and Floor never sang the songs to a studio version so this is the next best thing. Album is called "Showtime Storytime" Most of the songs from other lists are also sang at this concert. Dark Chest of Wonders Bless the Child Ghost River Storytime I Want My Tears Back Amaranth //Top songs in Spotify// Most popular songs in Finland Nemo The Phantom Of The Opera (live) Elan Wish I Han An Angel End Of All Hope Over The Hills And Far Away Ever Dream
Another great reaction (if only I didn't have to look at Stan's f'in hat logo for 20 minutes). There is another version out there with the lyrics and the whole experience might become clearer if you watch that one, but you did get a lot of it. This is a song that you just can't take in one time - there's too much happening. Floor had actually come in on the American tour in late 2012, and had 48 hours to learn the entire setlist before their next concert - she had been with them for about 8 or 9 months at Wacken 2013, but it was her first introduction to a large European audience with Nightwish (she wasn't even a formal member yet). Anyway, thanks for this and keep 'em coming. BTW, this concert was their 20th anniversary in front of their countrymen, and I think there were 22,000 people there - a lot for a small country like Finland.
I don't care how many times I listen to Nightwish...they just blow me away Everytime!!
This Night was so Flawless. My best Nightwish show, I've ever been. Floor's parents where there too. Whole evening WAS MAGICAL❤. WE WERE HERE!

When you go back and take a closer look at the lyrics, there are some pretty specific terms used that are peculiar to the field of science they are singing about. A lot of reactors ask questions about some of them. I put together this little glossary of all the ones I hear questioned from time to time. For your future reference:
Archean horizons - A term from geology referring to the rocks of the Archeozoic Period of the PreCambrian Era.
LOL
Ionia - Ancient Greece, often credited as the birthplace of modern scientific thought, logic, and learning.
Wow Chris, thanks for all the info!
Unfortunately I can give you only one thumbs up.
It shames me that I cannot give you a better reaction then a mere thumbs up. Bravo.
hunger for shiney rocks?
Watching your awed faces was priceless. These TH-cam reactions really have reminded me how much I take Nightwish for granted as a Finnish person. Our greatest export and gift to the world, really.
such a gift it is though
I absolutely agree. Thanks to Finland :-)
PS: And the Netherlands ;-)
Finland's greatest gift to the world. Thank you
Thanks
The Greatest Show on Earth by the greatest band on Earth. Thanks, Finland. It’s magic.
You stop the video before the end Nightwish even changes our perspective of what the ending should be
That ruins it, of course. :(
You missed a very good ending!! Why did you not watch to the end? You missed out on some great production.
That's the problem with this live version. Yes, they play it perfectly, but the ending gets completely lost...
To be fair, some of us have already READ Dawkins...
Floor can power all of Finland with her windmills 😜😍👌
I have to admit I was one of the few that were skeptical about Floor when I first heard about her joining the band. After Anette took them down that pop kind of vibe. that being said I was grossly wrong, Floor is easily their best singer.
@@drylooped So Glad that Anette left, i stop listening the band because i hated the pop vibes and she was so poor live
That was my reaction too. The only song that really fits to Anette is Scaretale, it isn't the typical Nightwish, but it is fun to hear
@@georg3607 Amaranth and Slow Love Slow

I LOVE when Brian starts laughing every time the music changes suddenly, it's so wholesome and sums up everyone's reaction as a whole
It is about evolution but not of humanity but of the universe as a whole.
Wacken was a little under a year after Floor first joined the band. Check out the documentary 48 hours to learn the setlist. It is in Finnish but with English subtitles.
Samuel Engle Birth of the earth, not whole universe.
@@davesmith4778 No half-measures from them. That's not their style. Go big or go home!
What a crime! In our country Nightwish should be playing ARENAS.
That is why I hope they also listened to the album version after this and checked out the lyrics. :)
You forgot to mention that the song title is a reference to the book The Greatest Show on Earth by Prof. Richard Dawkins, the guy whose voice over you hear in de video.
That was the only thing I didn't liked! To cultisch in my book! :-)
@@Loveyou-bb9bg Evolution a cult??? You must be an American religious fanatic.
@@windmill10 no only down to earth and Dutch! ;-)
He was in Imaginaerum, album and the movie, and performed on Dark Passion Play too!
Here is the link! th-cam.com/video/vhExkmWKMEU/w-d-xo.html
When you get a chance you should listen to the ending of this song.
Glad you're back Ann! We missed you. No one tells the Nightwish saga like you! :)

Nice, I didn’t know pro tools could do that!
At 6 minutes her voice is a vacuum of tears. It sucks them from my eyes without fail.
Nice job guys. One thing’s for certain, that’s one song you can’t learn in your garage over the weekend!!
What a great reaction to the best band in the world, thank you!!
This was their 20th Anniversary Concert! Every time I listen to this song, I get something more out of it.
The unofficial 20th anniversary concert was in Himos in 2016. :)

Thank You guy's. Epic Masterpiece. Ode to Life Itself by Genius mind of Tuomas Holopainen. ❤
Lol
You stopped it before the end!! This is yet another masterpiece that I will listen to until my last breath 🤘
This was their own gig. And There was full Stadium 25000 people in City of Tampere where lives 235 000 people.
Great reaction guys 😃👏🏻 thank you !
Thanks for doing this one. Great! Looking forward to all the other Nightwishsongs. 👍
Oh my god..love u guys so much ,thanks for this!😍
I really enjoy watching this and your reactions in overall 🤗
Brian and Stan u are such wonderful persons both of you 😉😂
WE WERE HERE!
the fireworks are timed using timecode - when designing fireworks shows we know the delay between trigger and explosion. So the backing track they have with the orchestrations will also have a time track that's fed to the fireworks controller to sync everything.
This song has a powerful meaning that makes you reflect on what you are doing today. That last line always makes me roll a tear. Great content up to today. The only point that I have to say is when you two are talking and we can´t hear what you're saying, is like we are missing something great.
speechless..........great reaction.
And here comes the masterpiece.....
Naturally festival cost is less than your own concert.
When they performed at Wembly arena Richard Dawkins comes on stage at the end of the song and recites it.
one of their greatest songs

This was 10 months after the 2 days thing. Anette was fired on 9.30.2012 in Salt Lake Ciry, Floor's 1sr show was 10.1.2012 in Seattle. There's a documentary about this called Learn the Setlist in 48 Hours. The Wacken festival is beginning of August every year.
You should react to the Wembley version of this, there are a number of musical differences, with a special guest at the end.
Wacken '13 was 10 months after.... this show is after Endless forms most beautiful came out... and shortly after the Wembley show

Tuomas ( band leader and composer ) called Floor and said: -your are in... take a flight memorize all the lyrics and lets bang.... it was basically that... Floor memorized almost everything in the flight ...
This band is perfect! They are the perfect fusion of Metallica with Pink Floyd with the greatest female rock singer ever! How not to like it?
Let's talk about their crew. Most all of them have been with the band since the very beginning so they know what is required, Their sound tech Tero is also one of their studio recording engineers, Mika Jussila has been the one to mix and master nearly all their albums, Their management team has also been with them since the very beginning, so you can see why their shows are the pinnacle of perfection, no matter whether club or huge open air festivals.
You two are realy symphatic and cool guys 🤘🤘🤘
No, in the Ratina Stadium in Tampere 20.000 fans. Amazing show with that cat walk in the front, Floor walking on it, my god, what an image.
This is one of their best, and, as you pointed out, pendulum too.
floor has so much energy.
For a change of pace, check out Sleeping Sun from the Tempere show. It is absolutely beautiful.
If you like this you should definitely also take a look at Tuomas Holopainen's (the creative mind of the band) album called " The life and times of Scrooge". A real masterpiece
Love that album, also his other project Auri is worth listening to as well.
Scrooge is well worth the listen.
Great album! I've always wondered why he hasn't written any movie scores. He'd be perfect!
The whole album is about evolution and nature. It's also incredible. Just like the others.
Opera lyrics
Archaean horizon
The first sunrise
On a pristine Gaea
Opus perfectum
Somewhere there, us sleeping-(whispered by Floor)
Then the evolution of Earth from a molten rock to develop flora and fauna.
Enter LUCA (last universal common ancestor)
LUCA is the most recent common ancestor of all current life on Earth. If you believe in Evolution vs Creationism.
Then the evolution of animals and proto humans.
We are one
We are a universe
Forbears of what will be
Scions of the Devonian sea
Aeons pass
Writing the tale of us all
A day-to-day new opening
For the greatest show on Earth
Enter Life
Then comes the toolmaker- leading to homo sapiens. The ominous vocal and red molten backdrop should tell you a little bit about the bands ecological beliefs.
With the beginning of MAN comes the beginning of the END. Thus the animals running from the fire, which represents man the HUNTER.
Then the struggle not to kill ourselves off and the planet.
Man, he took his time in the sun
Had a dream to understand
A single grain of sand
He gave birth to poetry
But one day’ll cease to be
Greet the last light of the library
We were here!

Listening to that man make such sweet music from that simple wooden pipe leaves me feeling I could have done more with my life.

She'd have kicked his butt. 😂

Glad that artist pay attention to Science : it’s a good way to bring the message to youngsters

Read the lyrics. They are BRILLIANT.
Can't believe it's taken me over a week to figure out that this song is about Dawkins' book "The Greatest Show on Earth" - I even own the book!
