He was 180 out at 8:29 but realized the error and made the correction at 8:54. A good drummer is not measured by his/her mistakes but by their ability to recover! Notice on the second take at around 14:15 he uses the cymbals to wash out so he can hear the downbeat - that's experience. He certainly found home at around by 13:45. Love the fill at 14:50, especially kick and fill starting at 15:05. Very nice cross sticking in the outro. Beautifully played!
Around 8:50 he noticed he was at the wrong count BUT with this style of reggae not a big problem, then he switched it so magnificently to the right beat. Respect👍🏾
@@TomHemmann that's awesome!! There's some really interesting setups out there. I play open LH lead on the hats and open RH lead on the ride on a standard setup which keeps me on my toes haha.
Even though it wasn't perfect on the first try, it was still pretty impressive. He got lost a few times but he shook it off and it didn't seem like he made a mistake. Also on second play he had great groove, very clean transitions and overall great feel.
That's how you identify great musician. Even if they do mistakes they always turn it to look like they did that on purpose and continue playing like nothing happened. Less skilled one would stop and start from beginning.
My favorite aspect was his ferocity going right into the song. In the transitions that didn’t quite land space and listening allowed for a chance to regroup and it was back into the piece. Well done and great process.
I wish we heard more from Gil. Easily one of my favorite drummers still in 2021. He brings an energy to this genre that makes you vibe regardless of your music preference. I still jam to ‘stolen babies’ just to hear his dynamic and creativity. If he can learn Dillinger escape plan as quick as he did, he can lay out these feel good tracks effortlessly. Fantastic work Gil !!
Anyone else notice how his rig sounds like a live touring set? Great snare matched perfectly with the hihats and the clear heads sound concert ready. The whole cymbal set - wash and all - is tuned very nicely.
Gil's work with Stolen Babies and Dillinger Escape Plan has always been top level stuff, watching him do something like this was so cool. What an absolute Pro.
Big thanks to Drumeo and Gil personally for putting this together. I think these kind of lessons are essential for all drummers with no regards to a specific genre, love the feel-good approach Gil has, absolutely nailing the feel and the musicality. Also, this acrylic DW kit sounds absolutely fantastic. Thank you Drumeo
I love these so much. Where they listen without drums and have to make up their own part. Sometimes what they play sounds even better than the original. Love music so much and this is amazing!! ❤
I first heard of him 20 years ago. And i was impressed how versatile he was. He was able able to play speed metal goth etc... as good as reggae music, not gooffy ass reggae but real jamaican reggae style and culture that he fully embraced. I love that open mindness. Shout out to my man✊🏽
That was really good! The first time through I could tell he was trying various things and getting a feel for the song. It sounded like he lost the "1" at one point. The second time through was spot on. He had some clearly different beats for the verse and chorus that sounded great. He did a better job of laying back during the bass solos. I would say that was an outstanding take! I wish I could do that. Sigh!
@Boyitellyouhwhat I think it’s encouraging to see that even the pros don’t get it perfect on the first try and what sets them apart is knowing how to come back from a mistake
Great content as usual Drumeo, _Hearing Songs For The First TIme_ is my favorites, it teaches me a lot different perspective and groove from drummer you invited. As guitarist, Im grateful with your content.
Yes! Love Gil's work - I thought he was incredible on Ire Works, amazing finesse and groove, and a real point of difference to the drumming on their previous two LPs but without it sounding like a jarring departure.
he brought such an amazing feel to DEP that neither chris or billy had. absolutely no disrespect to chris or billy, theyre monsters in their own right, but ill always prefer gil's playing
That's awesome! Being able to think on the fly and to be adaptable is a skill that are often overlooked skills that are necessary to being able to perform as a studio musician.
The combination of the player and the mix is sick. A dynamic player that strikes the drum right and a proper mix. delicious. Those toms punch you in the face.
I LOVE these videos! So much learning, and you get to know the drummer more and what they have to offer. SOOO good, looking forward for more of these 😊👌
As someone who's a massive fan of his work on Stolen Babies- There Be Squabbles Ahead, I'm not surprised at all he was able to crush this on the second go. Seriously, everyone should check out that album. It's essentially vaudeville style punk but somehow proggy as hell. Female vocalist who plays accordion as well. They didn't have a guitarist for the album so all the instrumentation is written around the other instruments and the guitar is more like a seasoning than the focus.

Pls what genre of music is this
??
@@praise_asalikeze It's kind of a mix of some hip hop and Reggae vibes.
@Drumeo After Domino and Zack I"m wondering if Gil would be accept the drumless metal challenge? 😁
Can we take a moment to appreciate the audio engineer at Drumeo.. This mix is amazing🔥
That DW kit sounds so good
It’s true
Facts that kit sounds insane
Damn.. it was the mix? I thought the dw drums really sounded boomy and deep.
6:22 --> it sounds pretty nice
12:20 --> it sounds different... snare is too loud and hihat (when closed) gets lost in the mix
Too much gating on the last mix, can't hear any of the ghost notes.
That kit sounds so freaking good, man!
DW Design Series, Clear Acrylic. 🔥
Yeah that snare pops!
Those Toms!
@@DrumeoOfficial what about skin?
Raghunandan Adgulwar didn’t you just read what he said??
one of the nicest sounding kits i have ever heard, shout to the drum tech and engineer who set that recording up!

That save when he accidentally ended up on the up beat instead of the down. Sometimes a lil space is all ya need to get back on track!
This is why playing as much jazz as much as possible in your middle years makes you an all around better drummer.
Around 8:50 he noticed he was at the wrong count BUT with this style of reggae not a big problem, then he switched it so magnificently to the right beat. Respect👍🏾
There were two sections he was totally off, but solid first take 🔥
Interesting for me being a lefty seeing him write left handed but playing full dominant right handed. Great player!!
I thought the same!
I'm righty but I play lefty and righty, 1 hi hat each side dont ask me how
@@TomHemmann that's awesome!! There's some really interesting setups out there.
I play open LH lead on the hats and open RH lead on the ride on a standard setup which keeps me on my toes haha.
Im lefty but i play right. Almost everything i do follows right-handers except eating and wrinting
I'm the same. Left-handed writer, right-handed musician. I play guitar righty too. Can switch hit in baseball, but lefty in sports.

I saw him in a drum clinic video when he was just joining Dillinger Escape Plan. This guy can play anything and he rocks.
I don't believe he ever joined Dillinger he was hired as a touring drummer.
@@the6ig6adwolf pretty sure he was the official drummer on ire works album without googling it.
🤘
thanks... now i have to go listen to ire works in its entirety
Chris l he definitely was theur official drummer for a little bit but couldnt do the schedule, ire works is amazing.
This is Amazing. More of this please Drumeo, thanks!

Same lol
You are not alone my friend 😉
Being able to take notes and remember a form like this takes practice. 😉

Such an amazing first play through. “This guy said: “just messing around” Great work man.
That was fantastic. So fun to watch and you are very smooth on the kit. Looking forward to more. Thanks !
The best part is when he brings it down for the bass solo. That's real musicianship right there

Glad to see new context from Gil. One of the most versatile drummers imo

I love this channel with different drummers, because it shows that everyone has their respected style/approaches, but still reach that same “Goal”!
🤘
Awesome! When he started the rhythm, I was not expecting that beat... I love it!
I love that this song has an extended bass solo. Usually songs with pop priorities would never allow that.
he understands. when there's a bass solo you leave space, and you support. the rest of the song just livens up with that energetic approach.
That second take was IMPECABLE!
STOP IT!!!! It's my first time hearing this, and his translation of the drum track blew me away because of what he can do. Amazing!
Gil is such a great drummer. Love his Dillinger work.
That was so sick. Really love your playing style man!

I love the ending to the first take (I didn't listen any further); I've never heard a better use of doubles. It added a nice flutter effect.
Best sounding kit I've ever heard
dear god. just found a new favorite drummer
The floor tom to rival Benny Greb's 🤯
What a player! That kit also sounds hella good
Gil is an absolute legend. Saw him with Manson back in 2016 I believe on the tour with Slipknot and Of Mice & Men.
7:23 killer fill ! The first take feeling...
That kit sounds absolutely gorgeous
Holly cow that drum kit sounds amazing!
yes cool
Nailed it, I loved watching him study and then masterfully excecute
Those toms are so dialed. Wow. Amazing drumming, and enjoyed the process!
Very impressed with how the kit sounded!!

Awesome rhythm and love the pockets he finds.
i really stared at gils notes for so long and still have no idea what they say
That bass solo though, the 2nd take was superb
That was pretty good and i like the creativity of the fills and space between the notes
Pretty good? 🤡
Such a live snare sound!
This is one of the best ones yet.
Awesome grooves played and what a fantastic drumsound👌🏼
People this good make me sick...What amazing talent to process that melody and come up with that..Gil Sharone!!
I would really like to listen to the final product. Is the song on Spotify or something?
My gosh that kit sounds perfect especially the kick
Very impressed with the low end sound of the DW acrilic! Wow I liked!
I play my left stick backwards too! Love it for beefy backbeats. Easy flip to trad grip when I'm ghostin.
that kit sounds so freaking good sheeesh
A bit too busy for my liking but this guy slaps on the tubs with perfection 👌
Never heard of this dude, but what a great video. Good job, Gil and Drumeo.
My favorite ska/reggae teacher, Gil Sharone!
Gil is the man. Nuff said.
Wow that kit sounds amazing!
Pocket!!!!

That was EPIC!!! Such tight and crispy playing. I’m in awe.
This deserves more views..!!
Such high quality production. Just to ship their drum sets....Holy hell
BRAVO !!! u are so good in that and the drum sounds so amazing
his handwriting is sick, looks like he's tagging every word
I love that Gill did a Dillinger album, and what an album it is!
the drums sound amazing. I would mess up every single take! lol good job drumeo :)
Brilliant execution, awesome!!
The kit sounds great for the style and wow those Toms sound bad assed 🥁👍🏼🙂

He plays so musical!
Smoooth!! Viscous fast! Buttery goodness...
Anyone that can play drums with Dillinger, even for one album, is a beast
Song came to life! Nice job brother.
Should've given him the same song you gave to Rashid. 😂
I'm straight vibin to that track tho wow!🔥🔥🔥

Ooo I'd love the "First Time" series to bring back the overlay of the drummer's notes
ooooooh boi that floor tom sounds SEEEEXXXXXYYYYY

I was expecting him to hear the track with their drums❤
Swing Easy is one of my favorite song ever
