    Thank you so much for this video, Mr. Sandoval. Amazing details. And Eddie had the Bumblebee Strat placed into the casket of Dimebag Darrell. Dime had always asked Eddie to build him a Bumblebee and Dime passed before he could. EVH was a class act.

    Maybe Karl can shed some light on the tone pot we've all seen dangling in the back of the Bumblebee? Cap/pot values? Was it full up or turned back a bit and taped up in a "sweet spot"? I've always wondered if instead of a treble control as most tone controls are, or if it was more of a resonance control that rolls off lows or mids?

    • @karlsandoval
      @karlsandoval  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well typically I knew him as only using a Volume pot. If he had a tone pot I am sure it would be 500K audio and very rarely used. The guitar fidelity would be from the stock single humbucker set up....case in point it was angled slightly.

      @@karlsandoval there's a pic or two of the backside of the bee floating around out there. Apparently being the world's first rear routed strat, cavity covers didn't exist yet. In those pics you can see ed had a pot wired in and all taped up like he found a sweet spot and locked it there. Now did he use some kind of tone control, or did he wire one coil to it and "unbalance" his pickup? I guess only ed knew and didn't ever spill the beans.

    I wonder if he ever looked into a zero fret neck design? I used to have a 60s era Magnatone that had a vibrato, was set up kind of like a Fender Jaguar. It had a zero fret neck, low action, played well and didn't have the slots. Did you ever explore that design?

    Thanks for the info - do you remember what his action was set at? And what his pickup height was? I’ve always been curious. Thanks!

    Love the seatbelt strap bit . I always hated how most straps but in particular leather straps would pull my shirt down or up and stretch the neck out . I finally years later found a Dunlop brand I think made out of a seatbelt type weave material and that was the trick and I wondered why I didn’t think of that years ago . Ed had it all figured out before any of us started. I got an old seatbelt out of a car if I can figure out how to get a hole in it to put a strap lock in it . I don’t even look at a strap unless it’s made out that seatbelt looking material, I’ve got an old leather strap my grandfather had made and tooled for me, it’s for acoustic and sentimental uses only. If you hate straps pulling on your shirts get a seatbelt strap !

    What type of wood was the bumblebee body? Many rumors was that it was maple.

      I read in an interview awhile back that Eddie said it was ash.

    • @rickcrotts6673

      Yes Eddie liked ash and made me buy an ash Strat in which I put in a DSD and definitely got the vibe! ❤️

    Muchas gracias Karl for this great story and can relate! When I converted a standard ash Strat to an Eddie guitar I put a brass nut on with a standard trem decked with springs set like that and it stayed in tune great with 3 and 1 used to! Question, what pickup did Eddie use in that guitar? Thanks again!

    • @rickcrotts6673
      @rickcrotts6673 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Many. Even the Franky pickup was in it for a minute. It appears that it had a Dimarzio Super Distortion most of the time, but whether it was stock, modded, completely rewound, etc, is a mystery. Eddie often claimed to dig the Super D with an alnico mag swapped in. Sound alot like the Wolfgang pickup-13.5kohm with an a2 magnet.🤷‍♂️

    • @stevestarr6395

      @@rickcrotts6673 Yeah Rick I did hear he put an A2 in it as well but totally not sure?!

    • @karlsandoval

      If I remember it was a Seymour Duncan PAF type.....don't recall the Seymour humbucker name for that pickup.
