No they werent if you now why Bowls came into existence. Bowls were never games, but exhibitions. And they were made to lure fans of populated places to places that were quite small as a Tourist attraction and lead to a population boom in each city. Lets go over each one. Rose Bowl - First was held in 1902 but did not draw enough people so they went with other attraction to lure tourist to Pasadena. Next was in 1917 when College Football became more popular. The Rose Bowl (the stadium) was built in 1922. The Population of Pasadena in 1920 was 45,000. In 1930 it was 76,000. The Rose Bowl game, brought about an almost doubling of the population. Orange Bowl - The Orange Bowl started in 1935, the Population of Miami in 1930 was 110,000. By 1940 it became 172,000 and by 1950 it was 249,000. Sugar Bowl - The Sugar Bowl started in 1935, the Population of New Orleans in 1930 was 458,00. By 1960 it had grown to 627,000 people. Cotton Bowl - The Cotton Bowl started in 1937, the Population of Dallas in 1930 was 260,00. By 1960 it was 679,000. The 4 major bowls were NOT meant to attract the best teams, it was meant to attract the most populated teams with fans.

Michigan's head coach died right before they played ohio state in that year. I was in 8th grade and remember the Gators destroying ohio state in the national championship after Ted Gin Jr. Returned the opening kick off for a TD and got injured and sat the game out. Troy Smith Ohio States QB lost their best threat at receiver and the gators took advantage with Chris Leak Floridas QB and Tim Tebow the backup won the game 47-7
