honestly! if he could know the impact that he had on our childhood - I don't think he can even grasp it. I'm 27 now, and I'm amazed at how I grew up in the UK as a young black girl navigating her childhood and still somehow resonated with this talented individual thousands of kilometres away from me.
I PRAY that he sees how valued he is and that he has an amazing purpose. Furthermore, (and others don't have to believe me when I say this but I KNOW it in my heart), God loves him and I also pray that Ryan will see that for himself too.

Dear Ryan, if you are reading this, I want to say I am SO happy to see you talking and alive on Michelle's podcast. I don't know if you'll ever read this, but you helped me throughout my middle school and high school years and still to this day. I was introduced to you when I was five, and now I'm twenty. To this day, I STILL binge-watch your videos. Heck, this morning I had "Things That Ruin Thanksgiving" while getting ready haha. I grew up severely depressed and lonely, and you helped bring joy into my life through silly videos. You are constantly remembered by your subscribers, and no matter what you do in life, we hope you are happy. I cannot articulate how much you've shaped me into who I am today. I wish you the best and hope life has been treating you well! Take care. Also, shoutout to RHPC! We miss you all. We all carry a bit of NigaHiga in our hearts, no matter what age.😂
Ryan, if you are still in the process of creating, we are so excited and welcome any of your ideas! Whether it be TH-cam or other nonrelated content, you have a whole audience waiting for you. Nobody does comedy videos like you anymore, and it's honestly so sad, but thank you for keeping your videos up. Ryan, you say that "everything has been done," but trust me, anything from you would be like rain on a hot day! A miracle.
Michelle, thank you for using your platform and creating a safe environment for some of our favorite OG TH-camrs. ❤

I think no one can ever replace or better Ryan’s style of content. The humor, authenticity, resilience, creativity, etc… making content in High school especially. People in school think him and Sean are weird but millions, maybe even billions of people see them as their foundation of humor and creativity. I personally recite his jokes and videos just as much as high rating tv shows like spongebob.

Personally I really really dislike shorts and short videos because I mostly use youtube for background audio with earbuds in at work. I have to put my phone in my pocket and hope the screen doesnt click things on its own. When im not at work though i ussually use youtube just to have something on in the background.
Basically, this short form content means having to get up and switch the video every 0.5-5 minutes, because the reccomendations have NEVER been good for me. If it autoplays, its either complete trash or something ive already watched MULTIPLE times that day. Sometimes itll also keep going back to the same suggested video in between every single video i watch.... whats that about? Like every time i select a new video, the very next autoplayed video afterwards will be the same video i watched earlier... sometimes itll happen back to back to back over and over.. Skrillix Bangarang has autoplayed literally 100+ times on my phone in the last month alone. its absurd.
I also do not know what the deal is with the reccomendations lately but its all either toxic trash, or the looping nonsense of the same videos.
As far as Ryan goes I would very much prefer even longer videos if at all possible, because that means more time before I have to "pick through the trash" again to find something watchable o youtube.
The ads are getting excessive too. Every time i listen to music they put a commercial right at most of the base drops or good parts. its always just 2 or 3 commercials played 1000 times like Mint mobile, Better Help, His, Hers or my least favorite "x people dont want you to know about this new such and such" UGH lol. I will never use their products or services simply because they drive me insane with their extreeeeemely aggresive advertizing.

Ryan, its okay. The TH-cam landscape (and other social media) has changed indefinitely. The algorithms silently changed in a way that no longer supports creativity as it did back then but rewards content that immediately grabs peoples attention, using cookie cutter formulas that generates views and taking revenue as much as possible. Many prominent creators have left in the past 5 years, feeling something was off. It makes us think we have to do so much more to keep up than just our default passion towards our work. You are one of the ones left with soul and thats why theres this constant off feeling lately. You are not alone.
Regardless of whether or not the algorithm rewards creators, we should all create work that personally resonates with us. There are people out there who are looking for it, though not often expressive about it. It's better to connect with a few people on a deeper level that really makes them think instead of producing slop with the intention for them to mindlessly consume it for revenue.

Ryan, if you’re reading this, I’ve watched you since “how to be ninja” you were my source of entertainment and you were so enjoyable to watch. Your mind has been creative since. It’s been amazing to watch you grow. I was only 13 at the time and I’m now 30. It’s been 17 years. Whatever you decide to do in life, give yourself more credit and live life with ease knowing you made such a huge impact in so many lives.
Michelle, if you read this, I’ve watched you just about the same amount as Ryan. Your voice has always been so soothing to listen to and still - you are ridiculously creative. I remember being in the same room as you for a beauty event and being so excited to meet you but never got the chance to because it was so busy. Nonetheless, I hope whatever you’re going through you can see the light. Seeing you and Ryan has brought a lot of nostalgic feelings. Makes me happy inside. Wishing you two healing and happiness. ❤

Dear Michele, thankyou to let us know that ryan has been doing fine. I was wondering where did he go and always waiting for his new video every week until i realized its already 4 years since the last video i've watch. I'm his subscriber for the past 15years since i was in junior high school until today that i finally work as an architect. While he wondering one of his dream might be being an architect, one of my dream while i was in high school is become him.. a youtuber. Then i grow up and realized, being a comedian youtuber is much harder than an architect. Ryan's video is the reason why i never feeling lonely to pass my high school journey eventhough i don't have many friends at that day. Then a couple years later i know michelle's videos that actually made me realized that i can be that pretty girl too. You guys such a youtube legend, believe it or not but because of your videos i've been growing up fine. Thankyou Michelle and Ryan!

I wish Ryan didn't feel so badly about his own content.
Every person has their ups and downs and we all go through challenges but some of us rise above the crowd more than others, and he was one of them. I wish he would realize how impactful he was and still could be. Ryan videos are still a source of comfort to me even in my early 30s because it reminds me of being in high school when life was simple and stayed constant with me as I grew up.

Dear Ryan, i was also that sad suicidal kid who was being bullied growing up but because of your videos, you have significantly helped me continue to go through life for those years that youve posted. Please dont sell yourself short because your content has made a huge impact. Its safe to say that im glad i made it this far because of youtube and mostly, because of you. Love you so much, Ryan. Thank you so much for all of your videos

around the 2:50 mark to comment on Ryan's childhood sadness. Our tendency towards and down into depression is VERY genetic. It makes a lot of sense. It's not because of nothing. Good to acknowledge it and understand it

I’m now almost 30 and have a good career going for myself. I mostly have a pretty confident outlook in life. But back in high school when I was still struggling with self doubt and terrible self image, watching Ryan’s videos on repeat really took me out of my depressed mood and help me take everything less seriously. Most of my self-identity now really was forged during the Ryan YT era and it wouldn’t be an understatement to say that his videos play a big role in making me who I am today.

I F*CKING WANNA BLAME TH-cam for putting Ryan and other OG youtubers into that void of self doubt and depression especially to the transition to 10mins minimum content of TH-cam. That is the first time I’ve noticed the burnout and depression on Ryan’s vlogging videos way back then.

This was a very insightful episode. Ryan was a big part of my childhood where my siblings and I would be so excited for every new video he dropped and we'd keep binging them until he dropped the next one. He's impacted my life in a tremendous way and inspired me to make content to make people laugh and just to live life with a smile.
Hearing what he's gone through and breaking down how keeping up a TH-cam persona is exhausting is real and honest. I am glad that he is happy and less exhausted than he was before. I am excited for whatever he's got planned creative writing wise, but I won't hold him to it. It was good to hear from Ryan again tho!

Ugh the NOSTALGIA in this video 🤩From being a huge Michelle fan watching her videos and learning how to do makeup from them, and omg wanting her eyeshadow palette SO BAD but couldn’t afford it. To Ryan also being such a fan of, I think I never laughed as hard as I did watching his videos, my dad and I actually would watch his vids and we would just die laughing. I think the reason Ryan Higa may have been a "depressed kid" was because he was forced into things he didn't want to while feeling like he's not good at things that he liked. The combination of that can make a pretty miserable experience of a childhood whether you have a "good" family or not.

I remember crying during Ryan's Draw My Life, I remember laughing out loud at his Parkourse videos, and I remember when YT wasn't filled with the slop it has today. Ryan is the epitome of creativity and I share the sentiment with everyone else here by stating that he does not give himself enough credit for the literal paths he has paved for those that came after him. It is basically a fact at this point that he is one of the all time greats, a G.O.A.T
