  • Removing the broken pilot jet from the carburetor was easier than I thought. The head of the jet had snapped of leaving just the emulsion tube screwed into the body of the carburetor with no means of unscrewing it. After thinking about the problem I decided to use a left handed drill bit not to drill it out but to try and grip the rough broken surface on top of the jet with the sharp edges of the drill bit flutes and unscrew it.

I have exactly the same problem (hence why I'm here). I've even got the same drill! Thanks for the vid!

Those lefthand bits are the bees knee's. I have had real good luck tapping a small T7 or T5 in the jets as well.

I had the same problem. Used a 1.5 wood drill bit. It has a point on the end. Tapped it gently into the hole in the jet.
Then used a pair of pliers to turn the drill bit. Came out no problem.

Good job,,,, transmission fluid and diesel fuel mixed 50-50,,,,, is the best penetrating oil,,,,. A plumbing torch and heat it and cool it down with a damp rag several times,,,, a piece of copper or brass tubing,,, to keep you centered,,,. Still I had all four brake on a vintage Museum bike,,,. They had never been off or cleaned,,,,,

What do you do about using a slightly big extractor or just beating it in and accidentally breaking the thread of the jet in thecarb

You was lucky, but interesting...mine is air/fuel mixture jet, probably do the same job, mine is 1 side of head, great spares from eBay...lol 😂, but happy £50.00 for a set of Divvy carbs....so can't complain especially everything else was alright, apart from 1 head plastic cap, but can use 1 of mine, if glue don't work, but floats well with no leaks, excellent.... 👍

Use a left handed drill bit not a standard right hand bit and slowly drill in an anti clockwise / reverse direction
