Hey, I am a Sikh please cover Sikhism in your videos too, Sikhs are fifth largest religious community in the World. Interestingly During the time of Akbar Sikhism flourished in northern part of Indian subcontinent. Please cover it too you are missing out on something very essential
I am sorry, the name of the book " Ain-i- Akbari " should be pronounced like " Aaeené Akbari " which means " Ritus Akbariae "
Awesome video as always, can you also make a video on Alevism in the future?
@Nonsensical The roots are same, Hinduism is the parent of all major Indian born faiths be it Jainism, Buddhism and Sikhism. However just as Buddhists are different in that sense Sikhs are different too

As always, great video! Thank you for the collaboration. Looking forward to the video on Dara Shikoh.
@ArraaBBee 0007 ya the blood thirsty monster
@ArraaBBee 0007 well he was believe it or not , we have" fatwa alamgiri "with us which tells us in detail how fanatic of character he was completely different from his predecessors!!
@ArraaBBee 0007 bro when the book which is literally written by aurangzeb and his companions says such things about him the how the hell is this a misrepresentation??
@ArraaBBee 0007 I think he is represented the way he actually was. Indian history textbooks are rather more generous on representing Alamgir.
@ArraaBBee 0007 yup....even as a person who greatly dislikes Aurangzeb, I can say he is misrepresented. He is really cruel to many but don't think he was a religious fanatic who relied only on the Qur'an like the Taliban of today....
Oh man, fell down an Islamic and Asian history rabbit hole these past days and when I got to Akbar the Great, I thought wouldn't it be great if Let's Talk Religion made a video on the Divine Religion, and here it is! Great stuff man! G-d bless!
@Watch4 😳lol.akbar means great...
His name is jalauddin muhammad
Hindus gave him the title of akbar...
In his court also, mullas used to call him akbar
@Watch4 you'll curse the mullas?😋😋
@Watch4 when someone isn't following your alley you will curse him there is a reason why he is one of greatest king of indian subcontinent
@Watch4 he was great, far greater than a zealot like you.
@Watch4 you don't have to be relegious to be great.
"tried to become vegetarian"
"Due to social pressure didn't become full vegetarian"
I relate to Akbar in spiritual level
Hehe yes me too
Same. I’m going to try harder though.
I turned non veg due to social pressure. 😂

As a Muslim, given how common using 'Allahu Akbar' was and is. It is wild to speculate that he used it to mean something else than what all the Muslims understands it as. Feels like his enemies wanted to assasinate his character and used whatever they could
Mughals were also influenced by Neoplatonism, as recent scholarship says. The Emperor is given a divine quality.
Yep...that's what I believe is a common technique of usurping a person, country, religion, or kingdom.
Yeah, allahu Akbar is the muslim equivalent of "god is good" or "praise god"
the way it's used here just feels like rewriting history.
My religion is, to live through Love. ... In every religion there is love, yet love has no religion.
Mavlana Jalaluldin Rumi
Booooooo
It is love that is holding everything together and it is everything also"- Rumi
Rumi's poetry have been portrayed too much in a secular way in the west completely undermining the islamic elements in the translations to the point of making him a sole love poet. He spoke of divine love and also his famous quote: "I'm just on the path of Muhammad." In general Sufism too so much misunderstood in the west. Though as a Muslim who studies about other religions, philosophies and science. I agree there is an essence of divine or truth in everything but mixed up and flawed in some way or another. Peace✌🏻
What a fascinating person! Interesting that he considered Hindu deities such as Krishna to be prophets. Nice to see his tolerance towards the many religions of his realm.
Omg yesss!
I was just listening to Persian music, and then this pops up in my recommend! My day is made.
Really cool that you picked this topicfrom Indian Subcontinent, apart from Vedantas theme! And as usual a great video 🙂
One of the things I love about your videos is how visually rich they are, perhaps because I am a painter. When I watch the videos dealing with topics of Islam, I notice how many depictions of human form there are from (relative) antiquity, despite the current ideas that Islam forbids painting or sculpting people and animals. Could you possibly do a video on art history in the Islamic world and how the current taboos of depicting people came to the fore?
It isn't a current taboo. There are sayings of the Prophet Muhammad pbuh forbidding it. Just like the Bible forbids it thus:
Exodus 20:4-5 says, "Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth."
Different individuals just adhere with different levels of strictness to religious laws, as they always have.
Mughals artists justified painting human form, saying that the painted forms are never perfectly similar to the creation of God. So it's okay. No one is challenging God or anything....
Queen Elizabeth I of Britan wrote a letter to Akbar exclaiming that she was impressed to hear tales of Akbar's "humanity." - a rare character traits of emperors of the time.

In a letter to King Philip II of Spain, Akbar laments that so many people do not inquire into issues within their own religion, stating that most people will instead "follow the religion in which [they] were born and educated, thus excluding [themselves] from the possibility of ascertaining the truth, which is the noblest aim of the human intellect."
Akbar after sitting and listening to devotees of every religion in his Empire: "Whoah, dude. What if like all these religions are like really trying to all teach the same thing? Whoah!"

Yesterday I was searching about Akbar and Al-din Al-Ilahi...

I am seriously impressed by the high quality of the content of your channel. Keep up the excellent work. Your TH-cam channel is simply the best channel on anything related to Islam. Thank you.
Loved the video, helps inspire my personal journey to learn and experience different religions. Is it possible for you to do an episode on Buddhism? It can be an introduction or more looking into one person such as Siddhartha Gautama, but I would like to see Buddhism also represented on this awesome channel. Keep up the good work man!
I think he has
Interesting video. Given the account of Akbar's character, he doesn't sound like the kind of person who would claim to be a god.
He was better relative to other turkish kings , but he would get seizures of Quran, as a result, thou8of innocents would have to pay a prize
You should make video on Chisti Order and on Kabir.
So good to see an in depth talk about such niche religious topics. There is in fact a lot of controversy to this day about Din Illahi, people in Pakistan are still confused about Akbhar being a Muslim
Thanks a bunch for providing all the sources!

thank you for the recommendation.
Great video thanks. Very enlightening. Looking forward to the Dara Shikoh episode.
Most of the radical muslims don't like him at all, rather they praise his enemies. He set an example for religious harmony. Today, our teacher didn't mention a single word about religious harmony rather presented him as a threat for Islam.
What a great analysis that paints a neutral image of Akbar. Explaining his positive and negative sides.
A question: Would you say that the scholars and people who opposed Akbar Deen-e-Ilahi had a good reason behind it. As i read, his unconscious way of mixing religious (by keeping everyone happy) was having a negative impact on the Islamic Jurisprudence “shariah” and the continuing mixing, might have been completely dissolved into some hybrid of many religious doctrine such that the actual knowledge of Shariah or the Muhammad’s religion would have been either completely wiped off or its actual knowledge would have been distorted for the coming generations.
Because in some way, being an Emperor he was following the same route as Emperor Constantine followed. As when Constantine regarded himself as a follower of certain religious idea then all his empire was also forcefully or unconsciously started accepting the religion of their Emperor and consequently becoming Christians.
So in a way, both were similar and this way, Akbar Deen Ilahi (a hybrid religion) might have had the same influence on his empire and his people and therefore a lot of Islamic scholars came to the rescue to save the true teachings of Muhammad’s religion for the coming generations.
Bro entered in india it make complete sense he gonna start his own philosophy or religion it's at the end the place where many religions started like Sikhism, budhhism,Jainism and all
It seems to me that rather than try to start a new religion he tried to create practices that could be followed by all. Unfortunately those who demand orthodoxy will always claim people like him are apostates or heretics.
Exept for the fact that he was a heretic who left Islam
@@MohamedRamadan-qi4hl Perhaps he was a force of good which was suppressed.

@Lilia murah Mohammad was the most manipulator and narcissistic that's why he is among the most influential leaders in the world
@Lilia murah Not gonna get hard here on most of this but the Tolstoy quote is a very literal forgery. Tolstoy has a lot of unorthodox views and did think well of Islam, but his Christianity is rather clear even in his unfinished works. There's a reason he's a founder of Christian Anarchism. But he was interesting heavily in ascetic practices of other religious creeds. Unfortunately, we literally know basically everything about Tolstoy's life because he wrote a daily journal of everything he did. He was a weird dude.
Really the best evidence he didn't embrace Islam is that its not common knowledge, both the Tsar and the USSR wanted to slander Tolstoy due to his popularity and obsession with Georgianism, an economic system that was personally slammed by Marx but similarly called for the destruction of private property, and its inclusion in his final book literally excommunicated him due to pressures from the government.
Heck, he died trying to join a Christian group as he felt Russia rejected his own form of Christian teachings.
That's neat that you did a collab with al-Muqaddimah who also did a collaboration on one of my videos a year or so ago!

Can you make a video on Ashoka? Although Dhamma/Dharma was not a separate religion, i think it can be discussed as a code derived from Indian Dharmic faiths/sects. Looking for more video's on Indian religion 😇
Very good video, thank you for making it. Hope you can do one on Kabir and, the Chisti Order.
Thanks for this wonderful episode and insights. I disagree on the part that his tolerance continued through successive rulers: his grandson Aurungzeb abandoned the legacy of pluralism and tolerance and razed multitude of Hindu temples. Akbar's son Jahangir executed the fifth Sikh Guru, Arjun Dev.
As always excellent job. I wonder when you will talk about Ibn Taymiyyah the most controversial person on Islam history.
Actually, a lot of islamic rulers especially in kashmir region were kinda forced to become tolerant towards other religions as thus region had religious significant and was a very important pilgrimage cite which contributed to the economy of the region. When hindus and Buddhists were forced out of kashmir, the economy of the region crashed within a couple of years due to which a new political policy had to be introduced.

Though Badayuni was an orthodox Muslim, he nevertheless collaborated with Akbar
ʽAbdul Qadir Badayuni (1540-1615) was the first Grand Mufti of India and a historian and translator living in the Mughal Empire. He is an Uyghur.
He translated the Hindu works, the Ramayana and the Mahabharata (Razmnama).
you know , no one can go against the emperor regardless of religion if they want to keep their heads safe
I think that din illahi meant not an extension of Islamic faith, but indeed a universal concept of ... there is God and different religions are just different ways of worship of ONE DEVINE POWER. It's like different food when you are hungry. Doesn't really matter what it is, for as long as it settles your hunger. ❤

Nice, never heard of Din Ilahi, I hope to see you do Saint Kabir !!
My future suggestion is on the topic of 'Tenali Rama '
An able courtier under Krishna Dev Rai of Vijaynagara Empire who is oftenly assigned with adventures and fascinating expeditions.
Tenali Rama uses his unmatched intellectual state of mind to solve his problems.
Tenali Rama Krishna is neither a religious leader nor a philosopher.

@Anonymous alien everyone knows how much Hindus hate muslims. Hate usually comes from fear. And apparently you fear islam. Is it maybe because of how strong and true the ideology is? I know for fact we humans s dont fear of hate weak ideologies we just dont care about them. ISLAM IS STRONG it's not about you or me since we will all die at the end this religion will prevail and proves its self everytime that its here to defeat the devil. Thats why it will either be cherriched or hated.
@Anonymous alien it is not true the proof is now I will not refer to someone trying to tarnish history the happens everytime even prophets history was tarnished why will I believe someone who has immense hate in his heart towards the same thing he write about of course he will lie and tarnish history. However God is watching and when those people will meet in front of him they will pay for everything they did to make this religion appear something it is not. Let's talk about now because this is was we live and see nost Indians live and work in the Imarates they make good living there opposed to if they stayed back home. Imagine after 100 year an Indian write a book and say that imitates used to beat as like slaves and not pay us for our job until we die from hunger then take our women and do this and that and it might happen that's how the devil will always try to make islam something g it is not to make people stay far from it and follow his path but the reality poeple in the west and everywhere else become Muslim day by day.
@Anonymous alien you are funny the creator of the universe deos not exist to you but a cow is worth worshiping and swimming is dirty waters is better than washing yourself 5 times a day before prayer is wrong. Haha no logical thinking whatsoever Allah mention in the quaran poeple like that they have no heart to see with and no ears to hear with they live in darkness and they know it and they cant get away from it. Thank God eternally for being a muslim.
yeah haha the devil is master at playing the same game over time and calling his enemies evil while doing his job in darkness. Dont worry life is very short and we will all meet in the presence of the creator one day.

Great video as always! Since he appears in the intro, are you planning to do a video about shaykh Ahmadou Bamba, the mourides the baye falls and other west-african tariqa's? That would be great!
To me it seems that he wanted to create an order of sufi islam that wanted to counter, some of the thinking of the hard conservatives and more orthodox thinking Muslims by using the conclusions that he made from his discussions with the religious clergymen.
Trying to submit an idea that all religions essentially want kind of the same and if they found a way to unite, in the common ideas they contain this may open a path of unity and harmony.
So instead of focusing on our differences, focus on the similarities we have in belief. Actually a pretty nice philosophy.

Might find it interesting (though not really religion and more so spiritual belief, if those are different?) the spiritual beliefs of the native American people sorta blend together in some tribes with their tales of origin stories. One common character that is intriguing when described in them is a horned snake (peaceful snake that eats fruit, yes fruit) that comes to wise young men and as I recall gifts them knowledge.
