      what about stanley shop vacs?

  • @HarryManback46and2

    When I’m using the shop vac for dry debris I always use a HEPA filter because the standard filters let so much fine particles through it’s a health risk. I also as well use a vacuum bag so I can take it out and throw it in the trash and not dump it and get dust floating everywhere. It’ll prolong your HEPA air filters life for a long time, and to make it last for years longer I use a HEPA pre filter bag cover that is washable and reusable. It slides over the HEPA air filter and insures that it’s even safer on your lungs by double protection. My vacuum is still in pristine condition after years of use on jobsites and when cleaning my truck. Another mod I did to my vacuums was remove those crappy plastic wheels and put some nice rubber casters in so it won’t damage hardwood floors and it’s so much nicer when rolling it around. I just got some drill bits and widened the holes for the casters to fit perfectly snug and epoxied them in. Even on my small shop vac that has the larger wheels in the back, I popped those off and put on some 5” rubber wheels from Harbor Freight. I appreciate your channel for giving me pointers to clean and detail my truck and what products to use and stay away from. Thanks!

    I've seen one other video you did and both are done with very good production qualities. I found this video because I'm tired of the cheap plastic hoses that come with the Ridgid vacs. Not only are they too stiff, but dragging them anywhere they always rub on my legs because they're so stiff, to the point that they're really a bummer to use. I searched for a quality hose that was much more flexible and apparently it's this one. I'll get a similar product in the 1-7/8ths side from Home Depot. Fingers crossed it works for me - seems like it's got the adapters I need. Thanks so much for this video!

    About 17yrs ago I installed a 5HP Clearvue cyclone for my woodshop and liked it so much that I purchased a small cyclone seperator for my shop*vac. It does a fantastic job of all but completely eliminating anything getting into the vacuum canister. Whenever I vac the cars, I use that. Very rarely do I have to clean (tedious) the vacuum filter.

    A great way to save your filter is two large rubber bands and two paper towel sheets.
    Rap around paper towel over the filter, hold in place with rubber bands.
    Every time you dump the vacuum cleaner, put on new paper towels.
    No need of expensive bags.
    Also put a deflector on the inside of the vacuum cleaner. So trash doesn't go straight to the filter.

    Periodically spray spray the plastic/rubber Hoses/flexible crevice tool with a little armoral and allowed to penetrate for a few minutes to help Resist cracking. I know most detailors absolutely hate armoral but it works great on applications like this.

    Hi very helpful vids you have thanks....a question... do you know if there are any wet vacs that can drain at same time as you are sucking up. I know there are big commercial ones but i need a normal size but im not sure they exist. I am a plumber and I have to work on live water pipes sometimes and the wet vac would fill up quickly so is there any way i could even modify it so it can drain at same time, with a pump connection or something or even if it could drain just without a pump through a hose maybe (slower than it sucks obviously) that would even be very helpful... I have been researching and I cannot find anything. If you have any ideas I would greatly appreciate. I hope this makes sense. Thank you

  • @R900DZ

    Great product showcase on the vaccuum filter options, however, you made it seem like you always have to replace them. I just tap mine to shake the big stuff off, then blow it with compressed air and then it’s good to go. In my experience you can do this many many (almost infinitely) times before you necessarily have to replace anything.

    • @imjoshv
      @imjoshv  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That’s a good point, if you maintain them you can get some extra life out of them. I personally forget to maintain it till it starts showing suction loss and by that time my filter is pretty dead

    I donno if that muffler is much of a filter. It looks the same as the wet filter Ridgid sells. I have one too, but for me it's more about not having the vac blast things off the table or kick up dust from surfaces. I recommend the Ridgid HEPA kit for fine sawdust though! And a cyclone separator.

  • @Icantball67
    @Icantball67 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    While the muffler does cut noise and that alone is worth it, it won’t do much if anything for catching the particles the filter doesn’t. It’s a more open pore sponge if you will that has bigger holes for air flow than the way smaller pore filter. If it gets through the filter better believe it’s getting through the muffler.

    Great video Josh. I've purchased darn near every item you've demonstrated here. Awhile back, there was a video claiming where someone use pantyhose as a pre-filter for shop-vac.
    Also that gray hose is 17/8 and trying to convert connections to 1 1/2 for carpet cleaning attachment was a pain but finally got it right.🙂

      What did you do to achieve the 1 1/2 conversion?

      I've searched several e-commerce sites but really do not member where exactly as this endeavor was months searching. Try Kleen-RITE on-line, business doe supply commercial car washes and they have alot of attachments

    Can I adapt the ridged hose on my craftsman shop vac I have a craftsman 10 gallon 6.0 HP 2 1/2 hose. I understand the ridged is 1 1/4 hose

    I like my vacuum straight piped

  • @JD9RX830
    @JD9RX830 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The mufflers are not filters in any way. It simply diffuses the air blowing out of the vacuum so it won’t stir up dust and dirt around it. To prevent dust, always use a bag and a hepa filter.

    I know you are a practical detailer. What do you think of using the blower feature on the Rigid shop vac to blow out water from grills and small areas of the car?

    • @imjoshv
      @imjoshv  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The only reason I dont do that is cause it could blow out debris that was sucked in to the vacuum previously. But if it’s totally clean then that’s a great option. I actually have a 16gallon that I keep in my shop that has blower attachment that you can pull off and use separately

    Would you recommend the extractor add on or a Bissell portable carpet cleaner, if you could only have one?

    • @imjoshv
      @imjoshv  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      thats a tough one. I think the add on delivers more suction, but i personally would want a seperate vac for it so i didnt need to swap it out all the time. so all in it would be around $300... the Bissell is much cheaper but is very limited on what you can do with it. Id proabably set up a dedicated vacuum for the add on kit as long as you will always have a water source near by.

    Rigid Flexhose is not available for the 2 1/2 size hose. :(
    Also, I have the guttter cleaning kit and it's good. Way less ladder for me now.
    Depending of the situation, HEPA filter is important because the very fine dust is the most bad for your health.

    That filter you show, is it not a washable one? I have a smaller rigid as well, and I have 2 washable filters, same blue with rubber all around it. If it's not washable do go get washable, they cost more, but you wont continue to buy later.

  • @mlhm5
    @mlhm5 ปีที่แล้ว

    You have to buy the kit if you buy a Rigid because it only comes with one small claw tool, but you would be better off buying the Vacmaster Professional for $99 or the CRAFTSMAN 5hp 5gal for $129 because both come with lots of accessories and are ranked 1 & 2 by Vacuum Wars.

      much more powerful than the bissel as long as you use a good shop vac!

    I bought the upgraded crush proof hose and I've had nothing but issues with it.... The nozzle literally popped off of the hose and didn't want to go back on. Then it just keeps popping off. I believe I've got a defective one since everyone says they are great

      I sometimes use both when I need the reach but it does seem like it’s got less power.
      People in wood shops installing dust collectors often use 4” hoses, I believe. The bigger the better.
