Todd, it's been 4 years... I'd LOVE to see you do another take on this, what with DeWalt coming out with the stealthsonic. I honestly feel like that could beat the Craftsman (and I own a Craftsman, based on your tests!)
This guy has to be the most honest and respectable TH-camr on this platform, he spends hundreds of dollars on every video on equipment, goes above and beyond with the tests for each piece of equipment, throughly testing of what piece of equipment is capable of and how they compare to their counterparts, the presenting of the videos is also appealing and also addicting to watch especially tests being very unique, he listens to his audience while being very open minded to what they suggest and even makes comments on about every comment I see and has done so for years! I agree. I commented on how he stores his hay bales outside, with a reason why could be better. He replied, with a thanks and I'll try it. (something like that) Good comment Stacksofslaps
I wonder what @Project Farm 's wife thinks of his TH-cam job. At least her man is home all day, when he's not out buying stuff, even if there is tons of noise coming from the garage. Heh
@@ProjectFarm Great video. The only thing I would have added would have been to show the ammeter during at least one of the load conditions. I don't think I've seen the Bauer or Hart brands before. Who sells those?
Hey Todd, could you please think about doing a refresher on this subject? After 3 years, it'd be advantageous to create a new review video, considering wet/dry vacuums' new and improved models.
Yes, Todd, I’d love to see this updated. It’d be great to see your current style of presenting your reviews that include summary spreadsheets (that I always screen cap) and such. Love your stuff and I always come back when I’m looking for something. This is why I’m a happy, paying subscriber!
So many, especially nowadays, are just spec sheets side by side, where a simple program could (and definitely does in some cases) just write the comparisons. PF actually shows everything and doesn't pick a clear winner most of the time, it actually gives you real world info and compares them in a useful manner. And any company is going to just focus on making the box specs look good, as evidenced by some of these vacuums having higher PHP, but drawing much less power, meaning they're doing less actual work.
Yes. I enjoy re-watching the second of his lubricating/penetrant spray videos for some reason. I switched from WD-40 to Seafoam Deep Creep because of him and I have been very pleased with it.
I needed a more compact shop vac, so I bought the 8-gallon version of the Craftsman based on this video. It rocks! Thanks for helping us all spend our money confidently!
T.A.M.T The All Mighty Texan Everything causes cancer in California. The politicians are idiots for making California a nightmare place, and unnecessary crap like this.
That is not what this means... It means they actually build all the separate components overseas (China, Mexico, whatever) and then they assemble the various components here in USA so that they can get around certain taxes, customs and of course so they can say "assembled in the USA" to make you feel better.
Just a reminder....even your 2 year old videos are STILL extremely helpful! Lookin for a compact but between your cordless & corded shop vac reviews, I'll be going with a RIGID compact. This channel rules. I love how methodical your tests are, no specs, just real world testing which is far more important imo. Even for tools i have absolutely no need for, I can't stop watching. It's like watching Olympics for tools...soo addicting gj
I don't even live in the USA, so I'll probably never see any of these products available at any store near my home. anyway, i keep watching each video, simply because they are so freaking good, very informative, and fun to watch .
@@pqrstzxerty1296 All Asdas are Wallmart but not all Wallmarts are Asdas... Point I'm trying to make is Asda =/= Wallmart. Asda is pretty much food & grocery only, whereas Wallmart is everything and even sometimes contains _other_ shops! Where else can you get a sandwich, a TV, a bite from KFC, a really powerful vacuum, and *still* be able to go a few isles over and buy a *gun AND ammo* for said gun. And if Covid hadn't happened when it did, Wallmart likely wouldn't own a _majority_ share in Asda. They don't fully own Asda, they just own _more_ of it than anyone else right now.
You said that a company standing behind their product is important and I couldn't agree more. But a warranty on paper doesn't mean anything if it isn't backed up in the real world. So, here is another video idea. Test the warranties from the big brands. Can you go in store, or do you have to ship off to a service center? Who pays for shipping? What kind of wait to have the tool repaired or replaced? You could even test the big stores extended warranties and see if they are worth anything. ie. Does Harbor Freight really stand behind their "Extended Service Plan"?
Important info yes but nobody is going to watch a video of being on the phone or at the store trying to get warranty. The best case is still going to be boring.
I agree, I have bought products from big-name "high end" brands that have claimed lifetime warranties, only to be slighted by their warranty refusal after normal wear and tear. I typically try to buy a product that I think is a good balance of value and quality out of the box, and I imagine how long it may last me for the money spent, regardless of warranty promises.
I know from experience shop vac won't honor their warranty unless you have the original receipt. Which if it's a couple years down the road is unlikely.
Just don't get too big of a capacity, as they are heavy when full. A 5gal is about right if you have to pick it up and dump it into something...Trust me, I know.
The rigid is a very well built vacuum i abused mine left it in the rain many times dropped it. Really just beat on that poor thing but it has lasted me over four years of very abusive construction clean up and many thousands of gallons of dirty water sucked up
@@connorhoffman6702 If they're using the same motor, I would assume yes...But really can't say for sure. Craftsman (Lowe's) is making some good stuff these days. I would check reviews for a good indication, though not absolute like with the PF reviews.
Corporate America and China both use the consumers for quality control testing, some of the American corporations will generally make up for the problem if you will just call customer service which I do quite often. Forty years ago we had no need of QC as many of the workers were responsible for good quality, Corporate America and China sure took care of that !
Project Farm i second this and think the dyson v10 should be one tested, I own one I think it’s pretty great but I don’t know if it’s really worth the £350 it costs.
Bought a Bauer from HF a few months ago and have been very impressed. It will suck up anything. We have 100+ year hardwood floors in parts of our house and the Bauer makes quick work of all the crumbs, hair, dirt, etc. that end up between the gaps.
I have a Bauer Shop Vac and use it for almost everything. Picks up water almost effortlessly. I just used it to connect to my orbital sander for a wood bench project, and it pulls all the dust with only the occasional need to remove the filter and tap out the dust before going back to work. It's really a great product and glad I got it.
I bet you could get that bauer on sale with a 2 year guaranteed warranty for less than the Dewalt. If it breaks for any reason in 2 years, you go back to the store and get a new one. That dewalt warranty is basically worthless.
My daughter living far away asked for my opinion on buying a shop vac for her husband, a military officer. I just rewatched your shop vac review and was able to give her a thoughtful recommendation. Thanks for your reviews. They’re the best!
Honestly. Nothing warms my cold heart like buying a Craftsman vacuum a year a go and then coming here to find that it tested one of the best overall with a good warranty. 😂Thank you for these fantastic videos!
Im thinking the craftsman shop vac is a rebranded ridgid, ridgid is the best shop vac in my opinion they might not roll after 5 years of hard use but they last forever
Jonathan K good thing it’s your opinion because factually that’s not true. Craftsman beat Ridgid. No company would rebrand a product and have it perform better than their own name.
There were MANY surprise results in this test! Still waiting on my most accurate tire pressure gauge ;) Keep up the great work! You're a true hero for testing literally everything in the shop and home.
I had a lot of fun with testing the shop vacs, especially the grudge match near the end of the video! A huge "thank you" for the video suggestions! Trust me, the shopping cart is rolling faster and faster with some more tool videos on the way. Hope everyone has a great week and looking forward to reading your comments!! Best regards, Todd
You bless the world with invaluable information in every video you post thank you for the dedication to giving a live consumer review of products that are important to me.
By any chance can you caption the gallons and weight to liters and kilos ? Its very hard to understand for us folks in the world. Other than that, thank you for all ghe information and help with your videos!
@ProjectFarm - would love to see a video on the best Paint Strippers. Either Toxic, Non-toxic, All Natural or whatever. Would really love to know what the best in those divisions are. Love your videos, keep up the great work. #ProjectFarmTestedandApproved
I'd really love to see a section at the end of the video with all the charts from the tests on one screen. I find I need to takes notes of each tests chart to compare all the results. It would be way easier and better to have them all in one place. Thank you very much for all of your time, money, and effort that you put into these videos.
Thanks so much for making this video! When I vacuum wasps on my channel, people always comment for me to get a "better vacuum" so its great to have a video to send them to now to see what factors play in to choosing a vacuum for different applications! Great video, brother!
@@jonanderson5137 Exactly like the totally stupid and meaningless "PMPO" Megawatt rating races of cheap stereos and boomboxes according to Sony, Panasonic and other garbage class electronics...
My first comment on PF, sorry for that, but i rly appreciate all the time and effort You put into this. It really helps us end consumers! Thanks from Sweden
I have a real Sears Craftsman I paid $99.87 for about 22 years ago. It still runs great and zero problems. But if I bought a shop vac today; I would go with a Rigid. How can you beat a lifetime warranty on their tools. I love their 18volt power tools as well; also backed by lifetime warranty including the lithium batteries. But I am glad to see an impressive comparison test. Wow!
I love the way you interact with your fans! It is so nice of you to like all the comments, and to respond to many of them. You have to be one of the most genuine youtubers around today. Thanks project farm!
Most of my time in the hardware store is spent just taking up space in the isle blasting the Project Farm video for whatever I'm about to buy. Time well spent.
The content in this channel and the way the products are tested and the variety of options to choose from is just a national treasure. Keep up the good work!
I had to check if you did a video on shop vacs before I purchase one for my husband for Christmas. The effort you put in is far superior than anyone else. Thanks for all your video comparisons!
You won't go wrong with Craftsmen or Rigid ! They are made in the same factory and 35 years in construction l have tried them all ! You want the Big 2.5 inch hose models. The smaller hose diameter can get clogged easier when picking up larger debris .
Nice video. We just bought the Ridged 12 gal. Our needs are not industrial. No shop or construction. I am happy and it is good enough. Home Depot honored an expired sale price sign and gave us $20 off at $79 down from $99. I am happy that Ridged seems to fall somewhere in the middle. I have the same Fisher Space Pen!
Test idea: antifog sprays/diy solutions. This is for everyone who wears glasses and a facemask of some kind, including firefighters, surgeons, etc. Thanks!
This channel is probably my favorite TH-cam channel out there. Every time I get a notification that a new video has been posted, I'm as or more excited than when my favorite TV shows have a new episode. I wanna go live at ProjectFarm.
Your self-created test methods are brilliant, effective and entertaining! Be careful, someone's gonna steal you for their R&D department!! Thanks so much👍
You have an extraordinary imagination to create some of the most Rube Goldberg test devices. Your contraptions are better and more relative at displaying real world performance than those on infomercials designed to reinforce supposed superiority of the products being foisted upon consumers. Bravo, sir, bravo.
Thanks for listing the noise (dB) levels. After decades my old, but quite, shop vac had to be replaced by one I purchased at Home Depot. It also is LOUD like the Shop Vac brand. I contacted the company who affirmed that dB level.
Apologies for a double comment but something needs addressed right now. Far too many of us have not taken the time to appreciate the work which actually goes into each video. The time spent editing and arranging all of the footage into the final product alone is more than note worthy. The narration itself is an entire additional step which I am pretty sure is not a one take effort. Here is where I lose a lot of people. lol If you were to go to a "pay to view" format, I would not hesitate to pay. Because in the end, all videos are WELL produced. And all data is as accurate as humanly possible at all times. Never is there a hidden string holding something together making it work. What you see IS how it is. And at the end of the day, I respect honesty and intellect. Seriously, very well done. I honestly feel you are going to obtain undeniable fame the nation over which spreads way beyond youtube. How far you go is up to you. But many of us will be right there supporting you the entire trip. All we ask is make at least one attempt to avoid selling out to netflix. lol They take WAY TOO MUCH of the star's money.

Tell us straight, after the cashier at the home improvement store saw you buying seven shop vacs after selling you manikin heads and bobbing mechanisms 4 weeks ago, was there just this really longggggggggg awkward silence? Kidding. Again great video Todd. Educational as always. I like how you had a lot of fun with IT and the "suck off" showdown at the end of the video, very creative. Keep up the good work.
Not gonna lie, The Bauer surprised me. That said I have a Rigid I bought on a bit of a whim. It is a 16 gal and doesn't have the blower attachment and honestly has been incredibly good. It doesn't seem to suffer from the same design problems that one did as its lid and bucket are quite snug.
I got my ridgid out of a dumpster 5 years ago. Been beat to hell and back, rained on, etc and is the best damn vacuum I've ever had. They are really tried and true.
I had my rigid burn up on me after a couple of years. Sucking up baking soda was the last straw. I'm sure some of it was my fault, but still expected better performance.
Shopvac was a total letdown. I have their mini version I bought Black Friday for $10 almost 11 years and and does the job though. I was rooting for it though..
I'm glad I chose the Craftsman many years ago and it still is going strong. You are amazing, your testing goes beyond anyone else. 👍🏻 I always check you before I buy anything.
Just picked up a vac today. I was standing in lowes watching this video before I left with a craftsman lol. I got the one that can also be used as a leaf blower which I did t even know it did that until I got home.
@@vonhousin4179 hope it works out well for you. Yeah the exhaust on these is pretty strong. I never used it to blow leaves I had a leave blower but now I have a condo. Lol
The one test that can't be practically done: longetivity. My Craftsman is going still doin' the job after 18 years (although admittedly, not much wet work).
An important test would be to pull the vacuum around by the hose over various surfaces to see which ones are the most stable. My pet peeve is “tippy” shop vacuums. Thanks for posting so much great content. Love your channel!
I've got a Ridgid HD1200 12 gallon and it has a wide base for the 4 casters. Sometimes it's too big to roll into some places. It's much better than my old shop vac.
Awesome comparison. I was about to buy the rigid but I guess I’m going for the craftsman now! Thank you so much for taking the time and the resources to create an in-depth and unbiased comparison!
Most amount of crap is either shop-vac HP, or air compressor CFM output. Compressor companies rate their compressor’s air flow at 1atm, while tool companies rate tool air usage at 90psi.
Thanks for the comparison video! I was excited to buy our first wet dry vacuum after using someone else's the cleaner garage, and using your comparison video, I went with the 14 gallon Bauer vacuum from Harbor Freight. It's on its way right now, and I can't wait to put it together!
I LOVE that you get to the point! Each category, each test, you give it to us straight and then move on. Thank you!!! (I hate when other youtubers just ramble and fill time)
Just commenting to say Great Job Todd 👍 and Thanks for doing what you do. A few days ago I was in Home Depot and literally watched one your videos before buying drill bits. I hope you continue to make enough money to support you and your family and produce the best quality content you’re capable of. The videos you produce are the definition of quality over quantity. You’re the only channel I LOYALLY watch multiple times.
Gre at video thanks.. I have a Ridgid and i have a love/hate relationship with it..I absolutely dislike the stiff hose and the clamps needed to be opened to empty it, as they always come undone and dirt gets everywhere.. but pretty much all designs are similar for hoses and clamps..
@@ProjectFarm man, thank you for all you do. Hopefully soon product manufacturers will start putting "project farm approved" or something similar on their packaging. That'd be awesome!
Can we take a moment to appreciate the work put into building this wind tunnel to test the air speeds of SHOP VACS!!!?? Good God man, you half ass nothing! Lol. Thank you for these vids bro. I truly appreciate the efforts you put in and before I buy literally ANYTHING, I first check to see if you’ve created a video on it haha.
I remembered to check out your review prior to purchasing a replacement wet/dry vacuum. After watching, I will go with the DeWalt for performance and brand name reputation. Your analysis was professional and complete. You should have you own TV show. Thanks for your efforts.
I understand you perfectly, but remember what happen to some high performance russian jet fighter airplanes ...! After few high speed, record breaking flights , they need new engines !! I buy both brands, but if quality and endurance matters, dewalt will leave the other brand miles behind ...
More important is the longevity, and whether you can get replacement (or washable) filters. I've seen some of these cheap vacuums go up in smoke after only a few hours. It is also important how much dust these beasts blow out.
I'll tell ya, I have a 3.5 hp, 16 gallon craftsman that my dad bought probably in the late 70's. That thing is a beast! It still runs as strong as ever and you can still get any replacement part for it you need, including of course, the filter.
I think basically the lower priced models available at chain stores (home depot, etc) where a) amateurs looking for a deal might be tempted to buy them and b) the low price points might lead to cuts in quality that go too far.
I had an Old School Shop Vac for years. When it finally conked out on me, I bought another one. I was disappointed in the decline of quality. I'm glad I got to see this review. I am going to invest in a Dewalt. Mine gets used hard for construction clean up. I would have liked to see how they do picking up nails, drywall dust, wood scraps etc. Drywall dust clogs up a filter fast which reduces suction. It would be interesting to see which one lasted the longest with drywall dust.
I'm also slightly disappointed in my new shop vacs performance, but I think it's due to a smaller hose diameter then my old one. However, im still glad to be supportive of a brand that's contributing to USA jobs instead of outsourcing.
Watching this I was most impressed with Craftsman honestly. Though somehow I felt bad for it during the 3 bucket segment where it seemed to throw up the excess water. Awesome video and awesome effort!
If you ever come back around to shop vacs and want to do an experiment, I noticed inside the exhaust port of my vac there wasn't a smooth airflow path and it looked to have a smaller cross sectional area than the intake due to the action of the mold they made it with. Since I never use the blower feature, I decided to hole saw some extra ports out of curiosity. Oh my goodness, not only does it pull a substantial amount more air than before, it is also significantly quieter! Huge upgrade for free.
I got a 10 gallon in my work space, but I'm getting hungry for that Bauer just looking at it slay the other brands. The 90 day warranty make speak to some potential quality control issues tho
Needed a shop vac with strong suction for cleaning out gutters, and I knew your channel wouldn’t disappoint. Went and got a DeWalt after watching, thanks for testing!
Great video. Maybe a durability test. Start them all, last one standing wins. I use a shop vac for dust collection in my shop and leaving it running for an extended time happens frequently. Extended run time without fear of fire or destroying the vacuum is a major factor. Thanks for ALL your great videos.
This is a great idea. A few years ago I had a Rigid that accidentally got turned on when I was out of town for a couple days. It died while I was gone, which surprised me. It was about 5 years old and didn't get used that often, but could not take being continuously on for maybe 48 hours.
I have an idea. Test different hearing protection gear. Earplugs, headphones, regular earbuds etc... I thought you could hollow out a foam head put a decibel meter in it and drill out the two ear holes.
Testing over ear protection is probably pretty straight forward, but testing different kinds of ear plugs or ear buds is not as simple. These are very dependent on how well they fit in the ear canal so just just using a foam head with drilled out ear holes probably isn't a good test. Might need some serious thought on just how to measure those, but then that's something PF has proven to be good at over and over again. It isn't always perfect the first time, but over time the test procedures has constantly improved.
I have a 30 year old + Craftsman 3.5 HP 16ga..I bought when I had a detail biz and still working great..bought a Rigid at HD and basically about 1/2 the suction..need new hose now but worth the 25 bucks..I will hand this vac down to my son or Grandson when Im gone
Thanks for doing this video. I'm in need of a new shop vac as my old Craftsman motor recently died. I appreciate the thoroughness in your review. I also hugely appreciate your impartiality. That's hard to find.
This is one of my favorite channels. I am always so satisfied by your methodology, however, when you were measuring the suction force on that ball, the different surface area (hose size) will greatly increase the force measured for a given pressure created by the vacuum. Much respect, keep up the excellent work!
PF is semi-scientific. Far too many variables to work out on that particular test (leakage, hose surface, wind speed, etc., etc.). But the ball size never changed which did give him a constant to work from.
I would love to see the best 12k winches! Do they actually pull what they say and anything else you can think of? Thank you for making the best videos on youtube!
You can always use a snatchblock and run the line back to the winch to get a 2to1 ratio essentially doubling the winch capability. I know its off topic but yah...
I also want brand comparsion like warn vs Badlands vs no name eBay and whatever else is out there. Also, wire rope vs synthetic rope in a winch and all that project farm greatness. I know about the snatch block thing but I still would love to know speed vs power on brands and even how hot they run but mostly can they achieve there rated pull without a snatch block.
I love watching these just to see what methods of testing he comes up with. It's like watching MacGyver, he explains everything in good detail so your actually learning more than just which product is best. Very satisfying! Excellent value for $5 a month patreon.
I just purchased the Craftsman thanks to your testing, I'm excited to put it to use! I also was able to purchase it at Ace Hardware for only $107 and that's including taxes. The regular price was $110 and I paired it with a 10% off coupon. Thank for your videos!
this is an old video but wanted to mention that Harbor Freight sells their extended warranty plans (1yr/2yrs) and are very good at honoring them, they just let you pick a new item off the shelf if you bring something in with a problem, no downtime waiting for replacements or shipping costs to deal with.. also no need to deal with warranty claims call centers (like Ridgid!)
Edit: according to responses to my comment, this may not be true. Leaving this up for others to read up on and decide on their own. Huge caveat about Ridgid products! Most of their stuff has lifetime warranties but ONLY if you register them within a certain timeframe after purchase! (I can't remember if it's 30/60/90 days) otherwise you're gonna have a hell of a time trying to put that warranty to use down the road. About a year ago I did a bunch of research on shop vacs before purchasing mine, and the general consensus at the time was Ridgid, but many, MANY people mentioned that warning about the warranty. Without the lifetime warranty, I think it falls a little behind other vacs, which this video helped solidify. But with it, I think it's a solid contender to be an all-around winner (or compromise, depending on how you view it) compared to the others. Huge bonus for me was that I needed a light duty leaf blower and that's what the removable head is for. It works GREAT, tons of air. Almost too much in some situations for me haha! Though not all of the Ridgids have that feature. OriginalEdit: and that head to head was a fantastic and funny comparison. I love the way you feature stuff! When it's something I don't yet own, I'm always looking out for what's good and bad about certain products. When it's something I already own, you hook me in with the competition and have me rooting for my product, and in the end I learn the strengths and weaknesses of what I already have. Either way this is great!
@@bhough410 are you sure? Everything I read online said that they make it very hard to get them to honor the warranty if you don't go online and register after purchase
@@gg-gn3re I feel like it's a good middle road for all of the tests. It got close to first and last place in several but always ended up in the middle to some degree. The warranty is a bonus to me, because I'd rather have a decent tool that never breaks (or can be replaced with ease) rather than a great one that repeatedly craps out, a month after the warranty ends, like clockwork.

Would be nice to see one on battery operated shop vacs.
Yeah that would be great! I’d like to see if Numatic vacuum cleaners are worth the price.
Yes, Todd, I’d love to see this updated. It’d be great to see your current style of presenting your reviews that include summary spreadsheets (that I always screen cap) and such.
Love your stuff and I always come back when I’m looking for something.
This is why I’m a happy, paying subscriber!
I'll never be able to read another Consumers Reports "test" again. They look amateur compared to PF
Haven't trusted them after what they did to the Suzuki Samurai
Project Farm is like a hands-on version of Consumer Reports. It really helps when you can see the items being tested and the methodology.
@@therealtimmyjimmy1306 that's a fat mood
So many, especially nowadays, are just spec sheets side by side, where a simple program could (and definitely does in some cases) just write the comparisons. PF actually shows everything and doesn't pick a clear winner most of the time, it actually gives you real world info and compares them in a useful manner. And any company is going to just focus on making the box specs look good, as evidenced by some of these vacuums having higher PHP, but drawing much less power, meaning they're doing less actual work.
@@fireyblackdragon like, where else am I going to find the 'time to succ 50 lbs of sand' and 'actually holds X gallons of water' on a lame spec sheet

"assembled in the USA" - makes you assemble it, only sold in the USA. Brilliant legal team behind that marketing.
Thanks for the feedback.
Drive it to Canada and assemble it, then sue for false advertising. It's foolproof.
I was thinking the same thing.
Assembled in [INSERT YOUR COUNTRY HERE]
That is not what this means...
Wallmart owns Asda.

True they know where it was intended to be sold! Lol
This.
Would love to see this too
I second this. Definitely compare warranties, both with the tool manufacturers and the stores that sell them.
You should test the warranties on companies and see who really backs their product up.
I’ve had good results with dewalt. I have a problem with one of their flashlights I contacted them and they shipped a new one.
Yep yep
Serious question: Companies deciding length of warranty....does that apply to more stuff? Like appliances, home electronics, tools, etc.?
THAT would be cool
I know from experience shop vac won't honor their warranty unless you have the original receipt. Which if it's a couple years down the road is unlikely.
Much needed video! Ive been in the market for a shop vac and could never decide.
Awesome! I gave them all a tough test! Hope the video helps you decide.
Just don't get too big of a capacity, as they are heavy when full. A 5gal is about right if you have to pick it up and dump it into something...Trust me, I know.
@@MrDLRu very sound advice. Much appreciated. Brand performance I would assume is consistant across sizes?

Bought a Bauer from HF a few months ago and have been very impressed. It will suck up anything. We have 100+ year hardwood floors in parts of our house and the Bauer makes quick work of all the crumbs, hair, dirt, etc. that end up between the gaps.

I’m likely to pick up the 9 gallon Bauer based of this video
I have a Bauer Shop Vac and use it for almost everything. Picks up water almost effortlessly. I just used it to connect to my orbital sander for a wood bench project, and it pulls all the dust with only the occasional need to remove the filter and tap out the dust before going back to work. It's really a great product and glad I got it.
Do the Bauer hoses and nozzles lock in place? That's the most important. I'm tired of my shop-vac tube falling out mid-stroke.

I'll do it if there's enough interest. Please let me know which brands, makes and models. Thank you!
@@ProjectFarm I am unsure of the brands exactly, although I was thinking of MIG welders using Fluxcore wire.
I think basically the lower priced models available at chain stores (home depot, etc) where a) amateurs looking for a deal might be tempted to buy them and b) the low price points might lead to cuts in quality that go too far.
Harbor feight actually sells a couple very well reviewed welders
Hope one will be a Lincoln! 👍🏼
Thanks for sharing. Thanks for the suggestion.
I'm also slightly disappointed in my new shop vacs performance, but I think it's due to a smaller hose diameter then my old one. However, im still glad to be supportive of a brand that's contributing to USA jobs instead of outsourcing.
@@justinpennington7682 What are you even talking about? Your comment literally makes No sense what so ever.
If Project Farm ever has a yard sale, I want to be there!
Don't buy any lawn mowers
Watching this I was most impressed with Craftsman honestly. Though somehow I felt bad for it during the 3 bucket segment where it seemed to throw up the excess water. Awesome video and awesome effort!
Thanks so much!
Project Farm: Which shop vac is best
TH-cam: Here's an ad for Shark Vacuums
Smart
If you ever come back around to shop vacs and want to do an experiment, I noticed inside the exhaust port of my vac there wasn't a smooth airflow path and it looked to have a smaller cross sectional area than the intake due to the action of the mold they made it with. Since I never use the blower feature, I decided to hole saw some extra ports out of curiosity. Oh my goodness, not only does it pull a substantial amount more air than before, it is also significantly quieter! Huge upgrade for free.
Thanks for sharing!
Port and polish
you litterally are my argument everytime i go to buy any tools i need, i love your channel thank you for your service of product testing
Glad to help!
me: yes shop vacs! time to see the superior power of my ridgid!
also me 10 mi later... damn it
I got a 10 gallon in my work space, but I'm getting hungry for that Bauer just looking at it slay the other brands. The 90 day warranty make speak to some potential quality control issues tho
Slaughtered... 😂😂
@@Blackobluna You can buy a longer warranty and compare prices accordingly.
Right!? I thought it was going to clean the floor with those harbor freight specials... I'm very surprised
This comment alone is a lesson about marketing.
Needed a shop vac with strong suction for cleaning out gutters, and I knew your channel wouldn’t disappoint. Went and got a DeWalt after watching, thanks for testing!
Can't go wrong with DeWalt. Best !
I bought the same. Lots of power, but VERY LOUD.
@@flat-earther . Unfortunately, the new Dewalt is way louder than my old shopvac brand. I wonder if they changed the design since this test was done.
It would have been interesting to see replacement filter costs by brand and/or the optional acceptance of filter bags.
Keep up the great work
Great video. Maybe a durability test. Start them all, last one standing wins. I use a shop vac for dust collection in my shop and leaving it running for an extended time happens frequently. Extended run time without fear of fire or destroying the vacuum is a major factor. Thanks for ALL your great videos.
Thanks! Thanks for the suggestion.
Yes this is true.
This is a great idea. A few years ago I had a Rigid that accidentally got turned on when I was out of town for a couple days. It died while I was gone, which surprised me. It was about 5 years old and didn't get used that often, but could not take being continuously on for maybe 48 hours.
@@danschroeder4274 But wait -- how did it get turned on when no one was around?
👻 yeah, I think you have more important issues than a burnt out vac.
he spent $752.83 dollars just to show us what shop vacuum we should buy
I love that he gets right down to the point in his videos
Thank you!
He's no doubt doing pretty well with monetization. So technically, WE are paying for it with the ads we see. That said, I love his stuff.
His channel actually isn't monetized. So you shouldn't be seeing any ads. The money he makes all comes from donations.
Project Farm: How could we test shop vacs?

I have an idea. Test different hearing protection gear. Earplugs, headphones, regular earbuds etc... I thought you could hollow out a foam head put a decibel meter in it and drill out the two ear holes.
Thanks for the video idea.
Be sure to test combinations (ear pugs in headphones)
Testing over ear protection is probably pretty straight forward, but testing different kinds of ear plugs or ear buds is not as simple. These are very dependent on how well they fit in the ear canal so just just using a foam head with drilled out ear holes probably isn't a good test. Might need some serious thought on just how to measure those, but then that's something PF has proven to be good at over and over again. It isn't always perfect the first time, but over time the test procedures has constantly improved.
Project Farm please do this I really wonder how much protection I get wearing just plugs or just headphones or a combination
I have a 30 year old + Craftsman 3.5 HP 16ga..I bought when I had a detail biz and still working great..bought a Rigid
at HD and basically about 1/2 the suction..need new hose now but worth the 25 bucks..I will hand this vac down to my son or Grandson when Im gone
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for doing this video. I'm in need of a new shop vac as my old Craftsman motor recently died.
I appreciate the thoroughness in your review. I also hugely appreciate your impartiality. That's hard to find.
Thanks so much!
This is one of my favorite channels. I am always so satisfied by your methodology, however, when you were measuring the suction force on that ball, the different surface area (hose size) will greatly increase the force measured for a given pressure created by the vacuum. Much respect, keep up the excellent work!
Thanks, will do.
Thanks for the video idea. You are welcome!
a lot of risk in that. i wouldnt want to be anywhere near a metal cable under tension when it snaps
@@keithbussanich, you've never seen guys throw a coat, floor mat or piece of carpet over a winch line? Dissapates the kinetic energy.
I was in the market for a shop vac and was so glad that you made this video. made me confident about my choice.
Thanks! Glad to hear!
I love watching these just to see what methods of testing he comes up with. It's like watching MacGyver, he explains everything in good detail so your actually learning more than just which product is best. Very satisfying! Excellent value for $5 a month patreon.
Thank you very much!
I just purchased the Craftsman thanks to your testing, I'm excited to put it to use! I also was able to purchase it at Ace Hardware for only $107 and that's including taxes. The regular price was $110 and I paired it with a 10% off coupon. Thank for your videos!
Awesome! Thank you!
I never thought shop vacuums fighting, would make me laugh.
lol. Nice!
That's some white guy humor right there!
I don't think I would have been bright enough to think of that type of test
this is an old video but wanted to mention that Harbor Freight sells their extended warranty plans (1yr/2yrs) and are very good at honoring them, they just let you pick a new item off the shelf if you bring something in with a problem, no downtime waiting for replacements or shipping costs to deal with.. also no need to deal with warranty claims call centers (like Ridgid!)
I feel like I shouldn’t even buy socks without your INTENSE testing
Thanks for watching.
LMoLOLAO BEST COMMENT RIGHT THERE lololol
Yes ...perfect, socks!!! Test socks !!!
So ShopVac was technically correct: despite needing quite a bit of assembly, it was assembled in the US 😂
lol. Great point!
unless it was sold in Canada
Going to assemble mine in Mexico and claim false advertisement.
Thanks so much!
You don't need to register Ridgid shop vacs for LSA.
Yea it did 'ok' on the tests, if it didn't have the warranty it has it loses a lot of the value
