Funnily enough, the few major crashes I've had have happened on easier trails (greens/blues). Maybe because we let our guards down and ride riskier when we feel our skills are greater than the trail difficulty? In any case, my first big crash definately taught me "all the gear, all the time", even on the greens, an investment I've never regretted.
Great video T, big ups to you for still posting it, that's real riding right there. It could've easily been so much worse & the saying is true, What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. You still ended up laughing and preparing for the next ride. 👍 You're already stronger bro , Keep up the excellent fun !
I am glad you are alright and thanks for sharing the humor and positive attitude. You had me cracking up looking like gun smoke just exploded like a western, lol! ha ha!
@@TheOutsiderMTB Are the trails really more challenging than Mammoth? The docent from our mtb clinic was at Deer Valley I think the following week from you. He hit a tree with his shoulder. His buddy had like 5 crashes and on the third injured his elbow. It just makes me think.
I'm glad you are OK. That was def a doosy. Good to see you walked away. I just had shoulder surgery for a grade 3 ac join separation from my last crash. Take care, Tony, and be safe out there and ride on.
Glad you were ok to ride that one off Tony. Riding alone can turn from good to bad really quickly. Beautiful trail though. Is that part of the park up there or just a local trail? Also, it looked like your bars were just a tad crooked after the crash. Is that just me?
Glad you are ok Tony, one thing I have learn from watching some of your previous videos is never take easy trails for granted, sometime those are where most accidents happens, full face helmet, you got to protect the money making.
Dude I had to watch it like 5 times to see what the heck happened. That rock seemed to kick your front tire out from under you. So wild !! I’m glad you were okay from that. It seems like the blue/greens bite more often than the black trails. Shoot
Ah,... the joys of mtb! Lol! Glad you are good. You did what you had to do to get down the mountain. This is a primal drive. Be proud! You are a mountain biker!!!
Ridden that trail many times, one of my favorites! But there definitely are some sniper rocks that'll get you. Very sharp small ones that you reawlly have to look out for, even more than on the trails I ride here in Phoenix. Ironic when you really want to be admiring the views but you have to keep your eyes glued to the trail, haha. That did look like a hard hit, I'm glad you're mostly ok!
It goes to show you that you can crash at any time . Looked like the rock kicked you off line . Loose off camber stuff and I’m already afraid ! LOL !! We are are the friends that were not on the ride with you . Glad you will bounce back fine ; that was a nasty one . Real mountain biking . Hang tough !😎
ROCK FREE TRAILS! On a trail I've ridden a million times, flat lower speed corner, lost the front on some dust covered hardpack and scraped my elbow up pretty good....had my kneepads on, but not my elbow pads...........after I dusted myself up, I got to scold my self all over again "shoulda wore your pads dood!" It's especially grating when you hurt yourself on easy trail.....like giving one away for free
I had a similar crash (front wheel washout and/or jackknife) at high speed about 3 weeks ago. I ended up with severe injuries: broken collarbone, scapula, glenoid, 7 broken ribs and a partial pneumothorax. Plus cracked my helmet, but no concussion luckily. Similar conditions, dry with loose on hard. Spent 2 nights in hospital and just had surgery on the collarbone. Looking at 6-12 months recovery time I’m told, depending on nerve damage. 😢
I'm in my 40s too and always wear elbow and knee pads for every ride. I don't heal as fast anymore, and the pads have saved me from some really gnarly scrapes.
Hey, man! I noticed you have a YT Decoy -- did you ever have issues with a noisy headset? Mine is constantly creaking and it drives me crazy. I haven't even used the bike that much, the bearings seem perfectly fine and the allowances seem tight between the bearing and cups. I can't tell you how many times I've taken the front end apart, cleaned it, greased, re-assembled. Glad you're okay from the crash!
Thanks David - I've had some creaking here and there, but had my shop regrease everything nd it semed to work out. So hard to find where the creaks come from.
@@TheOutsiderMTB I watched a ton of videos earlier -- turns out the linkage axles not being greased enough from YT is a common issue. I took both out and slapped some grease on them and it seems to have stopped.
💯 I just recovered from 3 fractured ribs and torn muscle from the easiest trail at summit! Going green! Rock strike had me on my but before I knew what happened!
I can see how you missed that rock as it appeared that it had been turned over by a previous rider so the dirt encrusted bottom was facing up, making it hard to spot. Prob rolled on you. I remember the video where you crashed on the luge. 😅

The only place they're allowed is at Deer Valley resort. They're pretty strict about it everywhere else. You can ride them on the other side of the hill in Heber, though. WOW trail, for instance is fun on an ebike.

Glad you are ok! Could have been much worse. And it was your fault, you didn't see the rock! You are lucky! Thanks for sharing the bad and the good! And was there a mark on your rim?
You have been riding mountain bikes and e-bikes for a long time. I remember that just you “cased it”and passed out for a few minutes. I completely agree that you never take any trail, even smooth looking rolling hill trails for granted. Always stay focused and looking ahead as much as possible and keeping your body positioned aggressively throughout your ride. Personally I don’t wear a full face but I definitely think that it’s important for new riders or riders that are choosing more technical trails to consider. I sometimes wear the lightweight TLD knee pads. It’s just a thin layer of neoprene (kinda like wetsuit material) but it’s has saved me from smashing my knee into the dirt.

Love your videos, but, don’t be like the youngsters of today that for some reason seem to be allergic to padding! Been riding mountain bikes 30 years and yes, they can be uncomfortable and hot, but they save your skin, literally. They sell nice light ones the mold to your body, nothing uncool about wearing them, you’re not a spring chicken anymore. Glad you’re OK. Keep up the good work and keep the knobby side down 😉👍🏼
Imagine if your carbon bars busted and ruptured an artery. Lots of stories of this happening. (I am a first responder). Plus you are alone. I mostly ride alone and have crashed before. Aluminum bars haven't failed me. Just my own opinion. In Prescott, hikers put rocks and sticks on the trails. Always look forward to your videos! thanx
