Goliath Vs David? China & Fisherfolks Of The Philippines And Vietnam

  • In June 2020 , a Chinese Coast Guard patrol vessel rammed and looted a Vietnamese fishing boat in the Paracel Islands. Acts of aggression like these from China have hindered the livelihoods of fishermen in the South China Sea, who struggle to defend their rights to fish in one of the most contested regions in the world.
Armed Chinese ships escorting Chinese fishing fleets have been known to chase, use water cannons on, capture or even set fire to fishing vessels from the Philippines and Vietnam found in waters that Beijing lays claims to within its “nine-dash-line” boundary. These include the Paracel Islands, Spratly Islands, the Macclesfield Bank and the Scarborough Shoal.
The last falls within the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) of the Philippines, and in 2016 the Permanent Court of Arbitration at The Hague ruled that China’s claim of “historical rights” to the shoal had no legal basis, and that it had violated the Philippines’ “traditional fishing rights”.
But China has ignored the ruling and its fishing fleets have continued to muscle out Filipino fishermen, who are enraged that the Duterte administration isn’t taking a stance on this matter.

@Pablos Hasapis You know, I could also launch into a whole lot of stereo types, and generalizations about Filipinos or asians in general, BUT WHY? How would my illogical characterization of all Filipinos or asians be of benefit to anyone? Just like your characterization of Americans does not benefit you, or anyone else in Asia! Except with the possibility of China! Who I think everyone would truthfully agree desire to be the only super power in the world! You can see what is happening to other countries including the Philippines 🇵🇭 fishing fleet! And I accept there are bad feelings because of how The Obama administration was so disrespectful of the Philippines 🇵🇭 when they were in office, and now his vice president, OBiden is ignoring problems in the south china sea. It's disgraceful 😔! America is the only country with the strength, the power to stand up to China and the CCP, and face them down! But right now, I sadly say, our representatives are failing, failing us and the world. Untill we get these bums out of office, The only thing I can say with any certainly is, the real majority of Americans will be keeping you in our thoughts, and in our prayers. God bless the Philippines, and freedom loving people everywhere. 🙏

@Pablos Hasapis The same can be said for China. Have you seen news wherein Chinese “coastguards” ram south East Asian fishing vessels? You really think that those who commit those actions give a single f*ck about the Philippines? China is also extremely racist because of the extreme nationalism encouraged by their authoritarian government, they see Filipinos as uncivilized, poor, and uneducated, they are no better than empires that existed during the colonial era.
Nakakapanghinayang naman mga tulad nyo, kaya ang daming self-hating Filipinos eh. Naging colonya ng Spain at America, nasakop ng Japan, at ngayon naman nagpapakatuta sa China. At this point Philippines is just the wh*re of Asia.

When the UK navy invaded China in 1839, we Chinese learnt power is not the best but the most efficient way to take more resources and rights. I am truly feel sorry about the navy of our nation invaded ur hometown today, it’s just exactly like what the UK did to China 150 years ago. I hope ur nation can learn that, establish a modern navy and push China back to the conference, then u can get not just territory but the respect by all the nations in the world.

Imagine if Philippines developed or have nuclear, probably only then will China scale down and be more cautious in that region. The fact that non of the other east asian & Asean countries are nuclear power simply means less power projection and easier to be overwhelmed. Only china and north korea has nuclear weapon in that whole region so they don't really respect the other countries as legitimate threat to them. Most of the countries relies too heavily on US to counter China in this region and with a weakening US in recent years, it's no surprise China stepping up their game and in no time we'll just need to be very very friendly to China, losing some of our sovereignty and rights.

Found a nice article where our history class will never mention.
"As Classic Imperialism the US Expanded aggressively against Mexico, Spain, Natives and Canada. And to be fair, also peacefully buying Florida, Louisiana, Alaska.
But what matters to us is that in the 19th Century the US was a pure Classical Empire in expansion.
From the original 13 Colonies, the United States colonized westwards, slaughtered the natives, waged an unstoppable invasion of Mexico stealing half that country territories from Texas to Nevada and California, fought a war with British Canada and settled its borders in convenient barriers that prevented the arise of border threats.
As a Colonialist Empire the United States annexed the Kingdom of Hawaii by force, colonizing it and then imposing by military force the US sovereignty over an independent state.
Later the US waged another war to join the colonial powers, this time against the now weak and decaying Spanish Empire. Taking Puerto Rico, Guam, Philippines.
After that WWI starts and the era of Colonial Empires commence its final stage.
The US interests shifted against Colonialism as their expanding trade needs required open markets and free access to resources all around the world.
Happens WWII and Colonial Empires are destroyed, save the USA which polish it’s image by granting self govern to colonies as make up while holding sovereign and military control. Then proceeds to dismantle the remaining threats to its global dominance, the English and French empires, which is done using the UN Decolonization efforts."

Of course, you can do whatever you want with Chinese Coast Guard and Fishermen because you dont have any direct territorial problems with China. Don't tell me about Natuna Islands. Even China withdrew there voluntarily because they knew themselves that it is way beyond their so called historical claim and doesnt have anything to do about there. Vietnam and The Philippines cannot blew up Chinese Coast Guard nor Fishing boats because VN and PH has direct territorial dispute with China, China considers the contested lands and reefs already as their own and blanketed those already with the processes of their laws and constitution thus small confrontation especially involving bullets can make Beijing order its entire armed forces to be on a war footing.
