You have 1) an ear which can pick apart a complex arrangement like this, 2) willingness to do the research and name the arranger instead of just saying, "I like whoever arranged this," 3) an awareness of the impact of music on our lives and the ability to express that, and 4) the enthusiasm to giggle like a school girl when someone does something neet. You are both a musician *and* a fan. ... We notice and appreciate all of that.

After another convo with David (head sound engineer of this track), I found out that the low rumble sound which I thought was Adam Rupp + Tim is actually JUST Adam employing his false vocal folds with the mouth percussion. So. Cool. (anyone else wondering if he can do metal screams?)
HUGE THANKS again to David and team for chatting with me about this production behind this video. You all have built an amazing community, and I appreciate your kindness, talent and hard work!

Oh i recently watched one of his beatboxing solos and he's done a lot of crazy stuff there.. from throaty bass rumbling to a whistle register, he's a beast when it comes to drums and percussions and he's a tenor singer.. You might need to check out one of his solos just for fun just to see how crazy good he is.

I love your reaction to the drum fill, mainly because, mine was pretty much the same reaction. As a drummer for over 30 years, I have such a hard time hearing that and realizing it's coming from his mouth. It is so on point, rudimentary perfect and the pitch to a set of multi-toms is absolutely on key. I'm not 100% sure I could play it any better on my own drumset.

  • @orionridge

Wow! OMG! I will admit that I had listened to this one before you reacted to it, but you always bring out things that I, mentally and subconsciously, absorb and take for granted (like how wonderfully Peter and Home Free always sound together). The first time you reacted to Home Free, I subscribed to your channel, not only for how beautiful you are and how beautifully you analyze the music and voices but how easily you express your joy and emotions when you hear beautiful music. Of course, you make beautiful music as well, so it's not so surprising that you can appreciate it as well in others. At 77 years I don't know when I enjoyed music as well as when you and Home Free (as well as others) combine to entertain me (Possibly except for my pitifully short musical career just prior to joining the U. S. Navy back in the 1960s). Thanks a lot!

I love listening to all kinds of great music! I put out a song a day to my friends here on facebook everyday since the last March 2019 or the beginning of this lockdown! I was blown away by this song! I love "The Charismatic Voice"'s expressive reactions to all the songs she covers! I am now a fan of anything she covers! Peter Holens is another fantastic find! Thank you! This is my song of the day for 11/18/20

14:07 It's August 2024 right now but this part and the words "only to be with you" really hit home. I just got this really visceral reminder of 2020 and how we were physically apart but also how creative everyone was in ways to feel closer together. Like the creativity was off the charts that summer with virtual choirs etc, and also just in my group of irl friends 'meeting up' in Zoom calls, it was obviously an awful moment in history but in its own way there were some really cool things happening too.

I like all the Bell sounds and all the almost piano sounds that Home Free carries through out the whole , the entire song mix. And the Percussion and little rim shots that are in the whole Entire song.

Great to get some insight into what is involved in such a project. Adam Chance has several had opportunities to shine, one of the best being "I can't outrun you" where his concept for the video is excellent too. For Home Free just singing with wonderful harmonies, "Auld Lang Syne" is special.

This is absolutely an amazing project. Both Peter and Home Free are right up there as my favorite music to listen to! I really enjoyed your reaction and ability to pinpoint all the different sounds we were hearing. You conveyed an appreciation for how difficult it was to edit all these video submittions together, which sounded fantastic! I was wondering if you have heard Mike Tompkins' version of "Cheap Thrills" from about 4 years ago. He took over 2000 video submittions from all over the world and blended it into an amazing song. He is another wonderful "one man band" who also has worked with Peter Hollens in the past. Thanks again for your superb reaction!!

It's such a great uplifting video and I've probably watched it about a dozen times already. This was such a phenomenal project!! So many amazing singing fans out there! One funny tidbit is that Austin’s cat’s name is “Dawg”! lol If you want to hear more Chance (baritone Adam), there are three videos where he had lead on 2 and partial lead on one. Lead on “Cover Me Up” and “I Can”t Outrun You”, and part lead on one of my top 3 Home Free cover (Crosby, Still, &Nash) “ Helplessly Hoping” (which is soooo good!). That drum cadence-like run that Adam did midway was awesome!! You may want to check out one of his live show drum solos (from late 2016 or later because he evolved so much from earlier years). I really enjoyed your reaction, analysis and commentary!!

All the props to everyone involved is more than warranted. I want to give a little love to the song itself. I think part of the reason this version has the charm that it has, even for as magnificently well performed as it is, is because it's a song that almost everybody knows. Everybody knows it because U2 wrote an amazing song. The tune is catchy and the lyrics are universal. You couldn't ask for a better song to use as the basis for an enormous collab.

Sentience itself is a profound mystery. And your capacity for complex enjoyment, vibrancy of spirit, and sophisticated expression only enhance the wonder of a powerful piece righteously rendered. BTW, Chance really showcases his musical art in the song "Cover Me Up" which also has one of the most heart-squeezing video dramas, and a kicker of a surprise ending.
