Carrot Top's Net Worth estimated at over $70M Gallagher's Net Worth was estimated at $200,000 CRAZY! So many interesting things about Carrot Top - many thousands and thousands of shows, and he is still doing it and loves it and is booked at the Luxor until 2030. Been in Vegas FOREVER and a top- rated show there! Lots of people have come and gone making fun of him over the years, but CT is always working. You will never hear a negative story about CT from anyone. Genuinely a great guy His ROIDs years were crazy Changing his face at least with the eyebrows and whatever else he did is interesting It sounds like with all his years in Vegas, he has never done the party scene I saw him not long ago in Vegas. Great show!
Like Gallagher said to Carrot Top he stole the "stupid stuff". What he wanted to say was he never took the jokes, (smart stuff), but instead he did the action comedy, (slapstick), which was all his very own but how many comics of the time had such a dynamic and physical comedy show? He had a tough time accepting his influence as a mentor and that's the issue he focused on.
If you watch gallagher interview on howard stern, gallagher is a bitter man who thinks everyone stole his act. He dislikes and disrespects all other comedians.
It’s almost as if Carrot is afraid to say the word “prop” - if you need a warehouse - it’s not full of words. Gallagher is saying that by using a lot of props - you stole his schtick. As if there’s only been one person in comedy whose been heavily prop dependent - and that’s Gallagher. Carrot Top was inspired by Gallagher but he made it his own. It’s like Little Richard saying Paul McCartney stole his bit. There’s so much more to Paul McCartney then a “woooo”

Gallagher was one of my favorite comedians growing up. I bought his DVD boxset of all of his specials. It was in a watermelon box. Such a shame he really was a bitter old man in the end. Thanks for the story Carrot Top!
It feels like one of those people that is the only way they know how to have a conversation. They love to bicker, and confrontration is their language. Would be curious if he ever talked to anyone normal.@@zachary_attackery
I never really saw the appeal of Gallagher, it was before my time in general, but looking back now at 42, I don't understand what was so funny. Carrot Top is much more accessible imo, Gallagher was political a bit much for my liking.
The constant interruptions were distracting as a listener but they also threw Carrot Top off track when he was trying to give cohesive answers. Really ruined the flow.
I grew up with Gallagher and Carrot Top. I had no idea any of this stuff going on behind the scenes. I didn't even know they knew each other. My mind is blown. My perspective have changed. Gallagher had a brother? What? I went to a small Gallagher show in the late 90s, when I was a teen. The smell was atrocious, by the way, with all the food and other crap being smashed. I can still smell it. I talked to him after the show for about 10 seconds while getting a signed photo. I thought something was off about him, even during the show. He was chunkier and had less energy than what I saw on TV. I summed it up to him being older and depressed about the small gigs. Now I'm wondering if that was actually him or if it was his brother. It was totally his brother, wasn't it? My whole world is upside down.
That gave me an existential crisis seeing carrot top so old… only seeing him a little bit on tv in the late 90s and then now… makes me realize how much time has really passed.
I mean by today’s standards 50 really isn’t that old. I totally understand what you’re saying though about the time passing thing. He just looks so much older to due to his plastic surgery unfortunately which isn’t doing him any favors. A true shame. Seems like a really nice guy.
Gallagher was a hero of mine as a kid. Sadly he became this way with his fans too. His later shows, a bit before he passed, were just mean spirited and a real bummer. Just such a shame. I got to be on stage with him twice. Once a drunk fan fell and hit their head on a table and then the floor and blacked out, show ended right there, I have that all posted online. The saw him again a year or two later and got to smash the 1st melon on stage. All surreal now listening to these stories from Carrottop and what all went down.
After being a fan of Gallagher my entire life, watching his specials with my parents as a kid, I finally got to meet him, and all he did was make off color jokes about me bringing my mom to the show. He was extremely clever and smart, but almost impossible to talk to. I mean he had a table set up to meet people, I didn’t just run up to him during a meal somewhere. It was a bummer.
Gallagher had some great jokes way back. I remember one from the 80s: Kid's, don't smoke pot...When you're already high. Because you don't get more high. You only get less pot!
Not long after Norm MacDonald passed away CT was on stage and ran the video of The Conan O’Brian show with Norm and Courtney Thorne-Smith and the movie Chairman of the Board. Props to CT and showing the mad respect for Norm.
I think Gallagher was suffering from a form of dementia as he got older. From most reports of personal interactions with him he seemed like a pretty cool and down to earth guy in his younger years, but he got angrier and more bitter as he aged and kind of lost the ability to have normal interactions with people. It's weird because his standup was still strong even during this period. I get the sense that he really liked and respected Carrot Top despite the bitterness.
I don't he had dementia since the stories of him being nutty with people go back over 2 decades before he died. He still was sharp with his act later in life. Even George Carlin had a good mind and quick witted before he died, but his attitude was very dower and bitter at the state of the world.
@@takerdustPeople's minds change as they age. It doesn't have to be dementia, per se, but their outlooks as well as chemical imbalances that build up over time can be startling.

I’m happy for him. He got such shit after he finally broke big, and now he’s had numerous residencies at a myriad of Vegas showrooms, and has made serious bank.
He strikes me as a guy who never had a healthy relationship in his entire life, and the closest he ever got was this with CT. For a guy born in '46 that makes sense. You can see that he wanted that and felt a tenderness for CT, in his dysfunctional way.
As a full time musician entertainer, I tried Vegas 2009-2010 quite unsuccessfully. I ran into Carrot top twice in my networking and he was always nice with a greeting. It was like he knew I was trying to be somebody in the business and just wanted to be a friendly face. He's just a real nice human being. Oh, Mr. Brennan, great video. As a fan of Gallagher, I'm very disappointed in him, but I'd rather know than be ignorant. Carrot Top was very respectful in his re-telling of a very sad story.
When he's talking about meeting Gallagher in Vegas at a safe place "in case a fight breaks out" all I can think is: "Those mother fuckers would have some cool ass prop-weapons to fight with."
I spent an evening with Gallagher once. Without giving too much away, a close friend worked for him and they flew in to my city. I picked them up at the hotel and had a very personable and memorable time. He was a brilliant guy. Socially though, he sometimes had a different set of boundaries, as Carrot described. He was nothing but cool that day. The three of us met in the lobby and sat down at a table for a few minutes before heading out. Gallagher pulls out a cigar type box that contains short pencils and little note pads. He passes them out and says he wants the three of us to write down any good business ideas we could think of throughput the course of the night. He was serious. I've been backstage riding his adult sized Big Wheel, and visited his warehouse in Vegas once - which was a total trip. It's like being an adult kid in a place full of incredible toys. He was one of those guys who constantly searched for the next thing.
I'm no fan of Carrot Top, just not my thing, but I love this conversation. I can watch most comedians talk shop, and it usually gives me a new appreciation for them.

I feel like bipolar you at least go crazy questioning your intentions/ attitude. Gallagher just seemed straight up bitter and selfish. 😅 Edit: after hearing that story of them meeting in front of the hotel, yeah dude seems bipolar af. 💀
Holy crap, I had a very similar experience when I met Gallagher at about 10! My mom's work sponsored a show, and I got to go to the meet-n-greet with her. He asked me to tell him a joke (I didn't write it, something random I heard at school), and then when he found out I wasn't going to the actual show, he put me on the guest list to get in for free. Then during the show, he told a version of the joke I told him. It was such a cool experience as a little kid seeing this guy on my family TV all the time.
Every time I've ever heard Carrot Top speak, he seems like the nicest, most coolest guy in the world. How can you not love him? The Gallagher bit was GENIUS.
Carrot Top is a world class story teller ….seen his show a couple times, actually very funny. Half the show is straight standup. Seen him around Vegas and in town grabbing lunch all the time near my house ….super nice guy.
Artists back then could be very tough and a little crazy, I had a mentor/teacher that was a nice guy. He made his way up in Vegas as a guitarist starting out as a dishwasher to playing crooner and Jobim music in various casinos. But when it came down to business it was as serious as it could get. I have friends that have stories of other musicians in NY that just blew my mind how hard and crazy they could be. Different times with different experiences I guess.
No bit: I had a very sad ending with my own mentor when his mental health deteriorated in the same kind of way. It's really a tough thing to go through because you know this person for so long but he goes in and mess with your livelihood. It's a real hard mental place to sit with. I think the only thing that probably made that situation bearable was the fact that you did have a story to tell after the fact and that's basically what you're in the business of. I'm really emotionally glad that I got to hear this story and thank you for telling it
Top is a genuine dude. I jumped on the hater train when he got jacked, im afraid to say, but after hearing his point of view i realize that I was wrong and I've grown to respect him

Nobody cares about your money, kids, political activism, or opinions - tell stories about your career, tell us things we've never heard before, and focus on things that make you uncomfortable to tell - and you'll be a great guest.
I remember loving Carrot Top as a kid from one joke that I don't even truly recall, it was like, a prop hand that he used to get the prizes out of cereal boxes? I think he shouted "GIVE ME MY PRIZE!" As a kid I died laughing, and then later saw Chairman of the Board and assumed he was cool. This was around the Yahoo Serious/Drop Dead Fred era of America... As I got older people kept making fun of him publicly and I thought, "oh I guess he's lame." Now as an adult I love hearing him on podcasts, he's just amazing to listen to, but especially loved this one, this Gallagher story was intense. I strive to be Carrot Top, but I fear becoming Gallagher. Imagine being so disconnected from reality and your perception that Carrot Top hands you a chance at redemption and to have your story live on in the hearts of others... and you just DIE ALONE, TOO DUMB TO REALIZE WHAT WAS HAPPENING.
Mental illness is a killer, don't kid yourself. The sad fact is he might have had some hope through therapy but when you get that tied up inside your own head you aren't going to be looking for help.
no joke. this was fascinating. during the vhs tape rental boom Gallagher tapes were nearly a weekly thing. i loved his humor, it's sad how paranoid he was. you'd think he was some hack prop comic with no substance, but his humor on language and politics were definitely for the thinking fan. RIP Gallagher.
This story is so well told I watched it twice. Also a great companion piece to this is the wtf interview with Gallagher. Has carrot top ever been on wtf?
Prop comics are highly underrated in the world of stand-up. I remember a a kid Gallagher was one of the funniest comedians I ever saw. As I got older, I got more into traditional stand-ups, but my love for stand-up really started with Gallagher.
I remember Carrot Top appearing on MTV comedy shows in the early '90s and I thought he was great. I'm glad to see he's still doing great. Gotta see him one of these days. "Gallagher wearing a Carrot Top shirt" is a priceless victory, especially if he really took the shirt home. Terrific interview. Sometimes I want to tell Neal to shut up his pretty face but he's so cute that I can't make myself do it.

We used to watch gallagher all the time as little kids. Never knew there was a gallagher too, lol. EDIT: That interaction between them is straight out of Curb Your Enthusiasm. Lol.
I love Gallagher. I was born early 90s so i never knew more than he was a "prop comedy hack" He's actually shockingly intelligent and hilarious when you previously thought all he did was smash melons and make silly sounds
I kept waiting for the happy ending to the Gallagher story, but it never resolved itself. And having seen both of their acts, I agree that Gallagher’s political comedy was brilliant and the fruit smashing prop comedy stuff was definitely the “dumb part.”
Gallagher also did a lot of prop stuff, so I can see why he was suspicious of Top. But Top was merely influenced by him and he should have felt honored. That said, Gallagher in his prime was 10x the comic Carrot Top is, and a lot better than he gets credit for these days.
@@collinsmcraeI suppose, I'm in the camp that sees the more accessible jokes of Carrot Top being smarter, than the much less effect George Carlin that Gallagher wanted to be, but couldn't, so props. That's the real story here.
Gallagher is/was one of the most bitter jealous comedians ever! Check out his appearances on Howard Stern and he basically rags on a bunch of comedians, even Jay Leno and David Letterman, he hung out with them when they were nobody comedians etc.
Just to add my own experience with Gallagher. We saw him shortly before his death at a dinner theatre at The Woodlands, Texas called "Dosey Doe's". I did not plan ahead and only had credit cards on me. I got there and found that Gallagher merchandise was being sold only on a cash basis. When I approached him I asked if he took credit cards and he responded no. At that point I mentioned that we appreciated his work over the years and that if he had a web site we would pick up merchandise there. He then simply said "What do you want". I was not asking for charity. I simply replied "Nothing. I am here because I respect you and have been entertained by your work for years. I am not asking for anything." I was not mad but I felt that he was salty and that his entire life was looking at how others were trying to exploit his works. I really felt sad for him. I wanted nothing more than to give him the love he deserved and he only could see others trying to exploit him. God Bless Gallagher and I do hope he can see the truth from the other side.

He needed to remind people to be silly and free and think outside the box. While there's still uptight people, just being silly or out of the box isn't what tickles that need right now.
I got sucked into the Gallagher Too thing in Detroit years ago. Front row gets ponchos. My ex at the time thought it was real Gallagher and bought tickets. The internet was new back then.
Carrot Top's Net Worth estimated at over $70M
Gallagher's Net Worth was estimated at $200,000
CRAZY!
Genuinely a great guy
His ROIDs years were crazy
Changing his face at least with the eyebrows and whatever else he did is interesting
It sounds like with all his years in Vegas, he has never done the party scene
I saw him not long ago in Vegas. Great show!
That meeting between carrot top and Gallagher would have been such a good coffee and cigarettes sketch
It sounds like Gallagher was upset that Carrot Top was leapfrogging him up the entertainment ladder.
I can see the influence of Gallagher in Carrot Top's act, but there's no denying he made it his own thing and brand.
There are only so many ways to structure a prop comedy act.
its ridiculous to say "you stole prop comedy from me"
It’s almost as if Carrot is afraid to say the word “prop” - if you need a warehouse - it’s not full of words.
Perhaps a case of what made up only part of the more successful one's material constituted most of the other one's schtick.

Neal losing his shit over Gallagher's inability to see very basic, real humor and feel a room's reaction is priceless. SO good.
He knew, He was in a wierd place caught between pride and envy. He was wanting to reconnect but was too old and bitter, I had a neighbor just like that
@@lizardKingCDXXI think it was partly just old age, he was trying to help him but at the same time he was likely suffering from early stages of dementia.
Me losing my shit when Mr. Top says he had 2 or 3 jokes and Neal asks “you were headlining at this point?” 🤯
This is a FASCINATING story. Who tf woulda guessed this happened. Carrot top needs to have a movie made about him or atleast his biography wtf. Dudes lived a interesting af life and I’d be willing to guess he’s went thru a lot over the years
I thought the same thing. It would be an interesting movie. We need to pitch it to someone who could do it justice. The Cohen Bros maybe?
GREAT INTERVIEW! I'd heard about the issues between Gallagher & Carrot Top but never heard it directly from Carrot Top. Also, I've become a bigger fan of Carrot Top(the person) with every interview. He's been getting shit from the comedy world and his biggest mentor his entire career and just keeps moving forward. That's the stuff that legends are made of!
Patrice O'Neal getting Gallagher to admit he was racist is such a classic bit on opie and Anthony. I go back and listen to it all the time😂😂😂😂
Carrot Top on O&A back then was just the same as he is here, a cool collected storyteller dude.
Having to sit in a studio with Patrice would make anybody racist.

Carrot top is aces. The real deal with people. Stand up guy.
I've been following him via interviews for years now. I can't say I'm a huge fan of his comedy but have huge respect for him. It's great to hear your comments since there's almost always someone saying something similar on camera and off. In addition, I've never heard anyone (successfully) say anything bad about him.
It's wild how many comics there are out there who attest to Carrot Top being a top-notch dude
I've never heard anything different about CT, and after this long in biz, it has to be legit.

Gallagher was one of my favorite comedians growing up. I bought his DVD boxset of all of his specials. It was in a watermelon box. Such a shame he really was a bitter old man in the end.
Thanks for the story Carrot Top!
You would think Ghallagher would be friends with Carrot Top, they both got shit on constantly by every other comedian for being prop comics
Some of the best get very bitter at the end, sadly. George Carlin springs to mind.
@@caiusmadison2996hmm I’m 39 and ten year old me couldn’t get enough of his old specials. Different strokes I guess
Neil knows how to listen and let a good story be told.
Sarcasm yes?
The constant interruptions were distracting as a listener but they also threw Carrot Top off track when he was trying to give cohesive answers. Really ruined the flow.
This time was rough...
yep. it’s impossible for me to stay focused. just stfu & pick your moment(s), if you cannot listen
I came here to comment on how bad the interviewer kept on interrupting but you said it for me.
I had no idea about the brother. This is the first time i am hearing about him.
His brother ron,was sued by Leo in the early/mid 90s for impersonating Leo. He was never allowed to preform as him every again.
Sounds like Gallagher III to me.
It might have been Ron because Leo (original) shaved his head bald by then

I hung out with Carrot Top once for a few hours. He is super nice and down to earth.
Carrot Top is pretty high on my list of comedians I'd love to sit down and have a beer with.
That gave me an existential crisis seeing carrot top so old… only seeing him a little bit on tv in the late 90s and then now… makes me realize how much time has really passed.
Same. I remember when he 1st started getting on tv in the 80s, seeing him look older reminds me of my own mortality(I'm 52)
I think Gallagher did very well for the mellon industry, he travelled the world buying them out everywhere he would go.
I'm deeply enjoying the rehabilitation of Carrot Top's rep among contemporary comedy
Carrot Top looking like Jacked Sparrow.

I met him also before a show. He was at the bar. Total smart ass dick.
Ever hear him on Opie and Anthony? Guy was a total kook.

The best part of this is when you go look up the video with the watermelon and see that Gallagher just put the carrot top tshirt over the sailor shirt
Gallagher had some great jokes way back. I remember one from the 80s:
Kid's, don't smoke pot...When you're already high. Because you don't get more high. You only get less pot!

This story falls in line with when Gallagher stormed off WTF podcast and the time he was kicked off a radio show for being rude.
That WTF pod is legendary
I think Gallagher was suffering from a form of dementia as he got older. From most reports of personal interactions with him he seemed like a pretty cool and down to earth guy in his younger years, but he got angrier and more bitter as he aged and kind of lost the ability to have normal interactions with people. It's weird because his standup was still strong even during this period. I get the sense that he really liked and respected Carrot Top despite the bitterness.
The way he describes his later interactions it would make sense he was suffering from mental illness of sometype.

For less evolved state I first thought you meant California...
He performed at my college spring 1994, to this day the best comedy show I ever saw. Throat was sore for 2 days from laughter!

Carrot Top is an OG! He's a smart dude, a great story teller and a great person.
I’m happy for him. He got such shit after he finally broke big, and now he’s had numerous residencies at a myriad of Vegas showrooms, and has made serious bank.
He really is a great story teller and kept it going very well here getting past the constant useless interruptions.
No he isn’t “OG”. Unless that means orange goof?
He strikes me as a guy who never had a healthy relationship in his entire life, and the closest he ever got was this with CT. For a guy born in '46 that makes sense. You can see that he wanted that and felt a tenderness for CT, in his dysfunctional way.
Lmao I see what you did with the '46
Yeah, the way he tells the story, you can tell Gallagher did see him as a kind of protegee, but was too proud or paranoid to admit it or something.
This is one of the best told stories I've ever heard.
True.
I was expecting box office poison
I bet board is spelled B-O-R-E-D

One of the most vicious beefs in comic history
I can see the 3 Stooges style scrap...nyuck, nyuck, nyuck!
I'm no fan of Carrot Top, just not my thing, but I love this conversation. I can watch most comedians talk shop, and it usually gives me a new appreciation for them.
Its kinda like watching Joe rogan from 10 years ago. Just comedians talking and tellin stories, trying to make eachother laugh.
It can have a humanizing affect.
carrot top has such an interesting character arc he should make a movie and include this hilarious gallagar meta it would be friggen hilarious and feel good cause he's evolved so much it seems like a good comedy drama storyline..im going to write a script carrot just for you
The fact that galagher gave his brother the go ahead then pulls back is the same example as his behavior towed Carrot Top.

I really enjoyed this interview. I feel bad that Gallagher did not give him any love at all.
That would be heart breaking since Gallagher was his mentor and idol.
Did Gallagher suffer from Bipolarism?
I feel like bipolar you at least go crazy questioning your intentions/ attitude.
Gallagher just seemed straight up bitter and selfish. 😅
Edit: after hearing that story of them meeting in front of the hotel, yeah dude seems bipolar af. 💀
I think he had assholarism.
I love this interview! It's the kind that deserves a million views, an animated riff... and maybe a short film!
"many of our peers are out of their fucking mind". A more brilliant observation has never been made.
You either give it the all, of you're a weekend gig Warrior and that's it... don't expect more for doing less is the key. That man was wise.
I'm really emotionally glad that I got to hear this story and thank you for telling it
It sounds like Gallagher wanted a close relationship with him but couldn't stop himself from trying too hard and screwing things up.
Gallagher was mentally ill, and unfortunately he was the kind of mentally ill where you yell at people, which makes life terrible.
I think he was going senile or possibly had dementia, what Carrot Top is describing sounds like how my grandma used to act
Carrot Top seems really chill. I like that.
Just watched the clip and Gallagher didn’t really push him that hard. It was also funnier that he took the watermelon and did not crush it.

What a great guest. This is what makes you celebrities interesting, being honest and talking about things you don't enjoy talking about.

I love how Neil does the Norm Macdonald Live "explain every reference to the audience" bit only he's 100% serious
no joke. this was fascinating. during the vhs tape rental boom Gallagher tapes were nearly a weekly thing. i loved his humor, it's sad how paranoid he was. you'd think he was some hack prop comic with no substance, but his humor on language and politics were definitely for the thinking fan. RIP Gallagher.

I love Gallagher. I was born early 90s so i never knew more than he was a "prop comedy hack"
He's actually shockingly intelligent and hilarious when you previously thought all he did was smash melons and make silly sounds
The impact of the final anecdote depends on Carrottop's behavior with women. If CT is a bad dude then Gallagher would be the hero of the scene.
