always coat rims when they are nice and hot, turn your gun down very low and dust coat them so you dont get orange peel effect, for best results powder prime and wet paint the finish coat.see mine on youtube.micky page chrome powder coating.
you are supposed to put high temp tape behind the wheel where it meets the hub! and it appears that you are coating the wheel hot! not supposed to! looks good though. and partially cure the grey before the clear coat, you will get a lot less orange peel (spray light)
Nice video, just a quick question is it need to be paint with primer powder ? is it need clear coat (laquer) powder to be finished ? if yes on which colours ??? sorry for the question but iam beginer and i want to start do powder coating in home for me Thanks
I just started to this, and Im thinking Im spray way to much as once. What psi is the gun at? Also , pretty sure you pre bake the first coat then apply clear hence the instant gelling of the powder.
Lot of misinformation floating in this comment section. Shooting wheels hot is for if you aren't grounding the wheel. It's not a big deal. Orange peel happens when you apply too much powder, which is a big problem when the wheels are hot, because the coating starts to partially cure (melt), which allows you to apply too much coating if you aren't careful. Don't shoot them hot, shoot them warm. Aluminum wheels should have an anti-gassing primer coat applied first, as cast aluminum tends to out-gas when heated. Heat that up to partially cure and pull them out, allowing to cool slightly, then apply the color coat. Allow to cool to the touch prior to shooting the clear. They can still be warm, but you should be able to touch the wheel without getting burned. Lastly, rims are for basketball, wheels are for automobiles.
SHJ Gaming correctly done powder coating doesnt just chip and flake off. ive shown people hitting it with a hammer and heavy tools and all it did was dent the piece
Matt Baker Okay, now I'm curious. What's the proper way? I'm looking to have my wheels coated and want them done right of course. Is there a method to dipping them? Also, some of my racer buddies swear powder coating causes microscopic cracks that can compromise the strength of wheels. But one of them said they can be done at lower temperatures to protect the aluminum. Any thoughts on that?
It all depends on the experience level of the guy coating the parts. Spraying hot can help with orange peel but can also cause the powder to be applied over mil spec very easily and at the point the powder becomes weak and then chips and fails giving powder coating a bad name. Either way cold or hot will work as long as you can keep the mils within spec.
What you say in the beginning made this video even more awesome
You guys always do a great job. They did two sets for me
I cracked up at the beginning. Great job.
why do you guys not mask off the wheel mounting pad or the centerbore?
That intro just made my day ahahahahah
Thumbs up for the intro alone lol
That ish looks fucking mint. Forget paying a bodyshop hundreds to paint your rims. Powder-coating is way stronger and durable. Great job
nice video. Im Guessing you shot these hot? they came out really Nice
^^I was just asking myself the same thing. The powder looks like it was curing on contact.
Nice ..... looks great !

i use that same gun at work Wagner its good
I see the clear melting these wheels are up around 200 degrees i bet
What's the life span of this powder coating? I don't know how this works so my first concern to this would be the paint cracking and coming off.
Powder coating is extremely durable when compared to conventional paint. That is why most factory wheels are powder coated.
love the intro lol
Someone help me understand why you would powder-coat the outside of the barrel...which will be hidden by a tire at all times lol?
why not?
@@subhanyushan5713 because it will be covered by a tire 99% of the time... 🙄
when buying a new set of wheel they covered the whole of it with paint, not only the side that you can see..that is why, maybe :D
Did you apply the powder on a hot rim? Looks like it melted instantly.
It looks like he hot flocked both the base coat and top coat. He is wearing his gloves the whole time

it's not improper.
most professional wheel refurbishments are done this way.
dramatically reduces orange peel In the finish.

How do you bake the wheel can you use a heat lamp? or do you need an oven?
