  • Scottish waltz music for accordion.
The Rev. Kim Cran of Blairdaff and Chapel of Garioch.
Northeast Scotland accordionist Ian Thow wrote this tune for the local Reverend. Kim's husband Bill asked me to play a recording of this as a surprise gift for his wife. He emailed me the handwritten accordion sheet music as I'd never heard the tune. I recorded the waltz and thought it a lovely tune. It wasn't until some time later that the composer Ian Thow pointed out that the last two measures of the accordion part are meant to be in Jig time! I had misread the manuscript. Not consciously noticing the 6/8 time signature change, I kept it in a waltz tempo! It sounds hard to believe, but that's what I did by accident. The Piano part on the end was just a bit of unexpected inspiration during the recording.
I hope you like my misinterpretation of a bonnie tune.
Ian has kindly allowed me to share his sheet music for this piece on my website should you wish to play it. He's be really happy to hear folk play his music, as would I.
Try and watch for that Jig part :-)
The track also appears on my album "Out o' the Box" available on CD and Digital.

@@CharlieAbel I've never heard it before, but I liked it Instantly, can I ask what you were using as a backing track? I'm looking for a machine that will give me backing music for my Roland Fr-3x.

@@martinsayers128 Thanks. I recorded a piano part separately via Pro Tools, the piano i used was a Ketron GP1, it has some lovely natural piano sounds. I guess you could use ProTools or any sequencing software to make your own tracks and play along with the sound file. That would work well if you have a set way of playing the tune as the form of the music would have to be decided and 'fixed' in advance. I don't do that for live gigs but it's a thought... for live i use my musictech midi and play in a band with other musicians. It's means the music is free and you can adapt your music to fit on the fly. Perfect for a ceilidh for example. If I were doing loads of solo gigs I might make my own backings for some some tracks, like, songs would sound fuller with a backing rather than a solo accordion.

Very nice Charlie. Are you using a loop pedal for the bass ?

Thanks Adrian, no it is a separately recorded piano part.
