      When it spins up the fans are at 33dBs, under load it's around 42dBs. When working on Premiere Pro in a quiet room, didn't notice the fans to give you an idea - YL

    Great review, which Wacom pen do you suggest?

    • @velvetundergrad
      @velvetundergrad 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Comes with an HP pen that uses Wacom technology. I don't think Wacom brand styluses will work with this, you have to use the HP specific version.

  • @sloppynyuszi
    @sloppynyuszi 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    doesn't inform enough for creatives. The pen needing to charge rings alarm bells. You need to do some pen tests. drawing slow diagonal lines, how does it react around screen edges, how much lag does it have with photoshop heavy brushes, .preassure tests, when drawing straight lines how does it taper, does it have those tiny hooks? I rather old Wacom tech with 1024 levels of pressure, than having those issues which is common with battery powered pens. Not all, Apple Pencil is quite good, but I have had massive issues with n-trig pens.

    I am looking at the Specre as well. In South Africa only Spectre launched end 2018. Is Zbook older? Which should I buy? Does the 15 inch have number keyboard on side?

    • @Dovecomputers
      @Dovecomputers  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The ZBook x360 G5 doesn't come with a keypad. The Spectre 15 does. ZBook has been around for years. Its HP's mobile workstation range with Adobe/CAD spec graphics cards as an example. The Spectre range are powerful, stylish, lightweight laptops.

    Thanks a lot for this review... currently it is sell with a P2000, so, more interresting... But I read somewhere that, with the DreamDisplay its weight can reach 2.6-2.8kg... is that right? It gets really heavy.

    • @Dovecomputers
      @Dovecomputers  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's true, DreamColor panels are slightly thicker plus glass for the touchscreen. ZBook's are solid so again a bit more weight. Will be interesting to see the new HP ZBook Firefly coming out very soon.

    Thanks very much for this outstanding review - it definitely helped me make my decision to purchase this machine. I do have an issue and perhaps you - or someone else - can help me? Thank you very much.

      Thanks for responding - I have gone through a number of steps and then sent the machine to HP. I want to be able to use both ports with external hard drives at once. Service tells me the issue is probably due to the fact that plugging in two drives at once is a draw on the power. I guess I have to live with only being able to use one port at a time - which doesn't make a lot of sense?!? Have you been able to do use both ports with external drives at one time?

      @@Dovecomputers Thank you for the response. I would like to ask, if you don't mind about the heat management and egpu connnectivity
      I am a software developer and most of my time is spent in reading books and writing code. I am looking for a 2 in 1 convertible machine with the maximum performance possible. Budget is no issue.
      So far, I have found this to be the best available option. I was also considering Lenovo Thinkpad P52 which has touch screen but its screen doesn't go back 360 degree (only 180) so that was a turn off.
      Coming back to question, is there any significant fan noise when you run heavy applications. The only issue here is poor graphic card. I am thinking about connecting it to a egpu via thunderbolt. And the only worry is how much heat and fan noise this machine (especially with Xeon processor ) will generate in that case

    • @Dovecomputers
      @Dovecomputers  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi, the i7-8850H is the best price/performance/battery life/heat processor in my opinion. With this CPU, the heat was minimal and under heavy load, the fans were audible but not noticeably loud in a quiet environment. HP does a good job with the thermal management to keep the fans from kicking in too much. Plenty of power for things like 4K encoding Premiere Pro, etc. Xeon CPU's will have the trade-off, of the fans kicking in more frequently than the Intel H CPU's plus more heat and a detriment to the battery life.
      The ZBook Studio x360 graphics will go up to NVIDIA P2000 4GB, but there's nothing to stop you from an eGPU. Be careful here as I had an AKiTiO Node that didn't have enough power to charge my laptop via the Thunderbolt 3 cable and the GTX 1080 card was too big for the caddy enclosure! - YL

    Disappointing to see the screen wobbling so badly which doesn’t quite fit with the quality and design expected from top of the line HP laptop. Design should be all about good functionality where the awful flex and wobble of the screen definitely doesn’t come up to professional standard.

    In October 2018, HP announced this laptop would be available with P2000 graphics, making it a much more capable laptop.
    Unfortunately, HP has been taking a long time to release it, and I don't know if that version would be available in here Canada. At the moment I'm going to guess the P2000 will not be available in Canada since the gpu is listed as a "customizable" option, and HP does not offer customization here. But other countries may have better luck.

    • @Dovecomputers
      @Dovecomputers  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      In the UK they have the 5UC06EA#ABU model with P2000 4GB, 4K and i9-8950HK. A cheaper model with the P2000 & i7-8850H, 2ZC52ET#ABU is also available. Both are coming into suppliers around 13rd March. - YL

      Dove Computer Solutions Ltd
      Thanks for the info - maybe something will become available here around at the same time.
      I wouldn't bother with the i9 - my guess is that it wouldn't do much better than the i7 due to thermals. But I'll probably go with the Xeon model because I want the brand recognition in case I go to sell the laptop later (Xeon with ECC support would sound better to a potential buyer than a "lowly" i7). Otherwise, I would go for the i7-8850H model.
      I don't know what Canadian retailers are offering, my searches didn't come up with much. I could buy it form the US, but the cost of doing so would be ridiculous. HP Canada only has two models listed, and I can buy a Lenovo P1 that has better specs for a lot less.
      I find it really frustrating, since this laptop would be perfect for my needs.

      @@arabiapolicy1077 Dear ARabia Policy, I am using now since July 2019 a HP Zbook studio G5 x360. I love it. It works flawlessly. Everything is fine, I just noticed a little screen bleeding. But this is only noticeable on a complete black background (like on Windows start). While using you cannot see anything about the bleeding. If you are a digital artist I would go for the x360 version as the pen is very good. I am using a 6kp15es model. If you have more questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

So, Who understand this brands ? Why they never ask people ?, we are in a time that build fan less devices is possible, graphene bateries, detachable screens and so on.
