  • The HP Z Book Studio G5 vs the HP Omen 15 for video editors, designers, and photographers. Which one is best suited for your creative professional needs? ► Check availability and pricing in the links below!
    ► HP ZBook Studio G5 hp.Store ( bit.ly/hp-zbook-g5 )
    ► HP Omen 15 hp.Store ( bit.ly/HP-Omen15 )
    ► HP Omen 15 ( geni.us/HpOmen15-i79750 - Commission Earned)
These are two very different laptops, but many creative professionals have come to me inquiring about the compatibility of the HP Omen for creators on their search for the perfect laptop. I have done a full review on the HP Omen and I think it makes a great laptop for video editors and designers. So today I want to put these two laptops head to head to help you choose the best laptop for your needs. Now, these laptops may have similar performance but will be suited for different buyers per the budget, build quality, and use case.
Starting out I want to look at the build of each of these models. The HP Omen has a bold aesthetic with the big X on the top cover with a mixed Carbon fiber and plastic design. The laptop is well assembled and the hinge opens and closes smoothly.
The HP Z Book Studio G5 is an all-aluminum, light-weight, thin laptop with a very discreet look. I like the beveled edges and corners, unlike other laptops with sharp janky edges.
    Laptop Weights:
    Weight: 5.56 Lbs
    Weight: 4.4 Lbs
The HP Z Book will also win when it comes to battery life as it can last a lot longer out on the town without a charger.
Battery Life: 9 Hours Web Surfing / 4 - 5 Hours Design and Editing
    Battery Life: 2 - 4 hours
The screen is another thing that will set these two laptops apart. The Z Book has better color accuracy than the HP Omen.
    Hp Z Book Studio G5 --- Color Accuracy: 96% sRGB - 78% Adobe RGB
HP Omen --- Color Accuracy: 93% sRGB - 57% Adobe RGB
Now for the ports. I am putting the ports up on the screen right now and as you’re observing what each model is spec’d with I want you to consider your day to day operations. What kind of ports do you need as an editor, designer, or photographer? It is important to know your workflow, not just the latest hype.
    HP Z Book Studio G5:
    Thunderbolt x2
    HDMI
    USB 3.0 x2
    SD Card Slot UHS-II
    Headphone Jack
    HP Z Book Studio G5:
    x3 USB 3.0
    SD Card Slot
    HDMI & Displayport
    USB-C (Not thunderbolt 3)
    Network/Ethernet Port
    Mic Jack & Headphone Jack
Now we are going to jump into the performance section and see how these two laptops stack up against one another. Due note that these two models are very well equipped for running multiple design programs at the same time and photo editing. So you can be confident in your ability to run the Adobe Creative suite such as Photoshop, Indesign, and Illustrator.
HP Z Book Studio G5 Specs:
    Processor: Intel 9th Gen i7-9750H
    RAM: 16GB - Single Slot
    GPU: NVIDIA Quadro P2000 with 4GB GDDR5
    Storage: 512GB SSD
Battery Life: 9 Hours Web Surfing / 4 - 5 Hours Design and Editing
    Weight: 4.4 Lbs
    HP Omen 15 Specs:
    RAM: 32GB
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 6GB GDDR6
    Storage: 512 PCIe SSD
    Weight: 5.56 Lbs
    Battery Life: 2 - 4 hours
    Refresh Rate: 144Hz
Color Accuracy: 93% sRGB - 57% Adobe RGB
Now for all of my video editing folks we are going to dive into some of the video editing tests to see how well these two laptops handle 4k video editing. I am going to run through my standard video editing test where I take a 9-minute 4k clip put it into Premiere Pro and export it out in full quality 4k TH-cam settings.
HP Z Book Studio G5 Tests:
    9 Minute 4k Export to 4k - 10:32.60
    9 Minute 4k Export to 1080p - 3:27.89
    HP Omen Tests:
    9 Minute 4k Export to 4k - 7:26.27
    9 Minute 4k Export to 1080p - 3:12
It is also important to note that the Z Book and the HP Omen are able to playback the 4k clip at full quality settings without any lag or stutter.
Overall these two laptops handle Video editing, photography, and graphic design very well. The HP Omen slightly edges out the Z Book on the 4k export, but not by a long shot. The HP Omen is going to be the affordable option of these two laptops, but lacks the light-weight, on the go battery life, and all-aluminum body.
Each laptop is a great buy for its own unique user. I wish you the best and can confidently recommend either of these laptops with confidence.

hi Ben, loved the comparison, was very helpful. However, the description stated the specs of the omen as 2070 max Q while the video showed 1660ti. Is that a typo?

hello, i am trying to decide a buy laptop. i am not a creator, engineer but i need CPU power and a little GPU power because of the financial trading programs. These programs need H series CPU that have more core for algo trading. But i do not decide a work station or gaming PC . Legion 5 PRo, Dell XPS 15 , HP Zbook G9 or Fury ? can you give an advice? @Ben G Kaiser

    • @jammaschan
      @jammaschan ปีที่แล้ว

@@idealsistem8173 if price is a concern, gp for the legion 5, it's the cheapest for the same specs. The XPS 15 would be great if you don't mind spending a bit more and sacrificing a slight bit of performance for a thinner and lighter laptop. The zbook would not be recommended purely for the fact that they're more expensive, but they do offer quadro graphics and vpro enabled cpu if your company/school requires that.

@@jammaschan thank you , XPS is the most expensive one in our country but fantastic design. Legion 5 and 5 pro price different is not so high so Pro version is better than Legion normal . the programs i use do not need CPU power as video editing or render or gaming but i do not want to suffer from thermal issues, stability and realibity. so i want to decide ; G9 Power, Legion 5 Pro, dell xps 15

Hi Ben I have a question and in need of some advice for my next laptop purchase. I am currently a college student majoring in graphic design and I need a little help deciding which laptop would best suit my academic needs. I will be taking a class that requires us to download Adobe Premier After Effects and Adobe photoshop and Ilustrator. I’ve never used any of these programs before and I have very little knowledge regarding tech so I was wondering if you have any recommendations as to what type of laptops/devices would work well with these programs? My budget is around $700-$2k.

    • @BenGKaiser
      @BenGKaiser  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Premiere Pro is going to be the program that you need the most power to use.
I would recommend one of these laptops:
      ► Lenovo Legion Y540 ( geni.us/LegionY540 )
      ► Acer ConceptD 3 ( geni.us/ConceptD3 )
      ► HP Spectre x360 ( geni.us/Spectrex360-i7 )
      ► MSI PRestige 15 ( geni.us/Prestige15-16gb )
      ► Gigabyte Aero 15 ( amzn.to/2X6Rkx1 )
These will have the power you need to run all of those programs.

    • @chelious1973
      @chelious1973 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Thomas McAdams. It's out now. Not much difference from the G5. The G7 loses the option for Xeon processor and privacy shutter for the Webcam, while gaining 10th gen CPU and slimmer bezels. Ports are almost the same.

is good enough for video editing at 1080p and coding as a computer science major.

Thank you for comparing these two laptops. It shows that we should not pay attention to manufacture's labels because in many cases we don't need a machine that says pro or workstation, or that has a Xeon processor, ECC Memory, and a Nvidia Quadro GPU to create content. There is a typo at 3:37 since the Zbook has actually two USB type c ports with Thunderbolt 3 capability. You can see clearly the Thunderbolt logo on both ports at 3:49. I wish you would have included some After Effects and Photoshop tests since the video is also aimed at motion designers. I've noticed that most reviewers focus mainly on the video editing performance. It was a very informative video overall. Keep up the good work.

@@BenGKaiser I don't use Photoshop as much as I do Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Blender. There are benchmark tools for all those programs but with the exemption of Blender, they are not only paid but can also get quite expensive. I prefer real-life tests. Open the Fusion page in Davinci Resolve and create some animated titles and effects and check if the computer can handle it without hiccups. Stabilize footage in After Effects and create a multi-layer composition in 3d space, then move the orbit camera around extruded objects at the highest quality setting. Check if you can RAM preview it in real-time or close to it. Stitch (merge) some high megapixel photos in Photoshop and add some processing intensive filters and see if the computer has to stop a lot to think. Create a scene in Blender with physics simulation like smoke or fire using the Cycles render engine, move the camera around to check the viewport refresh time and then see if it can play the animation back without dropping frames. Finally, export the animation out to PNG files and h.264 video and see how long it takes.

Been using hp zbook at work for 2 years now. And it's nothing but a ugly, bulky, heavy box of metal. It has managed to hit the final nail in my windows coffin.
And it's 32 GB Ram, i7 11850. Had to let go of Mac option initially coz I am so much more used to Corel draw for my workflow, and it's still not as effecient on macbook as Adobe counterpart.
