Another possibility had to deal with a few months ago was trying to convince someone their new smart surge protector was defective. Back and forth for 3 days before he gave in and pressed the test button on it and wouldn't ya know it it came back with bad test result. Sockets go bad sometimes, when they do just pray they don't take anything with it. The only other thing if guessing on stuff that's new is maybe the bottom fans running through the case? Maybe cables got caught/cut on the case material and now shorting.

I kind of like seeing you struggle with stuff like this, Jay. Mostly because it makes me feel better about my own mistakes, like thinking I was being smart by getting an R5 5600G in my build to use until I get a decent video card and only finding out yesterday that apparently I've gimped my machine down to PCI3 because of that choice.

PCIE gen 3 while a bit of a bottle neck isn't going to be that big of an issue for gaming. Yes gaming performance will be a bit worse its far less of a hit then you think and honestly if its a huge issue the 5600g will probably be more of a hinderance then the PCIe gen 3 only.

Thanks for the content Jay!! I always enjoy your work. 3 days ago I had an online exam for my coding class. I took a nap around 04:30 after shutting my rig off. Back in the middle of August I had an issue with random shutdowns. 3 months prior to that the same thing was happening but after ruling out all components it started running normally. So 3 days ago, while freaking out because I was losing study time, I decided to swap the motherboard. I had an extra Z690 Maximus Extreme for a buddies build and replaced my Z790 Extreme. I got done and had the same issue again. For the life of me I couldn’t figure it out. So I unhooked everything including 19:50 the wires going to the power button, HD led, etc. I booted with the onboard start button and voila it booted and no shutdown. Turns out that the HD led wire or power led wire had a short. These were parts I had cannibalized off the first PC I built back in ‘05. So yeah intermittent issues suck. Keep it up!!

All of these issues and problems are my favorite part of water cooling. There is always a challenge. My favorite ITX build in the Razer Tomahawk used an external reservoir on the back and massive 19/13 soft tubes cooling a 3090 and a 5800x3d. Slim bottom 240mm and normal 240mm top. I love these kinds of challenges.
Intermittent issues are also the hardest to diagnose. Had a customer many years ago get mad because his RAM (128GB) took days to test. Not to mention his cooler is bad and his PSU power plugs werent even plugged in all the way. Imagine how fun this is to do for a living. :')

This is your typicial itx build experience with 2022+ high-end specs. You should cut out the holes of the bottom intake with externally mounted fans.
A potential issue of not having a res is thermal expansion. If there is no air bubble/buffer to compress under raising temps, the pressure is gonna get high, with the potential of blowing out a tube. I purposely underfilled my itx build slightly.

I 3D printed the top of the case to fit the second 240mm radiator and used quick connectors from alphacool to connect each component, as well as a short Linkup PCIe 4.0 riser to move the EKWB Vector RTX 3080FE Special Edition to the 2nd slot and free up space for the tubes and quick connectors between the CPU and GPU waterblock. It's one of my hardest builds that I did. It requires a couple of micro fittings from EK to allow you to get behind the GPU waterblock from the reservoir.

Only major difference is I used a set of cross flow rads since the GPU is on the other side of the case. Ended up using maybe a foot of tubing in the final build, super duper clean. Took a bit of modification to get everything in the case but it turned out great :)
EDIT: also note that that pump block combo also has a built-in reservoir. Might not help since you can’t fit a drain valve on it though.

Hey editor; Can you make a short that is JUST a reel of Phils laughter?
We all need a little happiness in our lives, and that would certainly fit the bill.

5:25 Being able to see the copper & IHS is what you want! The best thermal transfer is metal to metal, the paste is only to... _Phil_ the gaps due to surface irregularities, because air is a _terrible_ thermal conductor.

If not fixed, I had a similar issue. It was the mounting pressure from the Thermal grizzly mounting block. I had to adjust to 5Nm of pressure and my system worked fine. It took me several hours to figure it out!

Jay needs another employee called Dwayne.
So he'll have "Fill" and "Drain" :D

The funny thing is that I was going to try to make a custom loop in the NR200P Max and make a video too, so I can be one of the first people to ever do it. Not a lot of people would put a custom loop in that because it already comes with a AIO so it doesn't make much sense.
I changed my mind after a while, but I'm still going to make a custom water loop for my PC soon.

I had the same cascading problems when I build my ITX case, in the end it was okay, also with a loop in it, but it is challenging for sure.

Perfect example of why you don't try and cram a bunch of stuff that runs hot into such a small case.

Long shot, is the contact frame correctly mounted?
The other issue might be the RTX 4080 power connection, tripping the OCP.

might want to re-check that riser cable. Vibration from the rotary tool can sometimes crack joints. Quick check but easy to miss.

Jay needs a t-shirt with him cutting a circuit board and a nuke exploding in the background. That pretty much sums up Jay and modifying PCBs.

When having no res/smalle res/weak pump, you should put a QDC in your loop.
This way you can break the loop and fill/bleed/rinse it with an external D5/res - then close the loop and close the case😉

  • @blai5e730
    @blai5e730 ปีที่แล้ว

Hmmm... my loops I only compromise on space the case takes up. Full towers for me with nice large D5 pump/res combos and 3 radiators, none of this _"Let's see if we can squeeze a full custom loop in 22 litres."_ rubbish. Good luck with the OCP issue Jay (mainly for Phil's sanity).

A little workaround is to remove the heatsinks of the ram sticks, its a closed case, but ram dont heat enought to decrease performance or other trouble - and the aesthetics for the ram don't matter. Perhaps without heatsinks ram increase around 3 or 4ºC and that gives you the clearance for install the fittings at the side.

Not sure if anybody else mentioned this... so many comments. I had my msi board suddenly start throwing over current errors and shutting off. It turned out to be the usb C jack on the mobo had started shorting from my G2 visor being plugged in and stressing the connector. I switched it from the onboard usbc to using the adapter to an A jack and things started working properly.

My initial thought on the OCP thing is the power cable spacer. It shouldn't have that big of an impact, but somewhere to look that has fairly easy access it seems.

This is exactly why I never use these tiny cases. What's the point when it's a desktop.... So many issues simply because of how small the case is.
