The background for box disappears but not the wording.

Ah yes, I had this issue a few times, here's what I found...
Make sure the text is tightly packed and the frame is as close to the edges of the text as possible.
If you are still having issues, try an alternative font.

No. 😊 Although you will have fewer texture, image, and font choices. The effects you need come with basic.
Although… Canva has changed a bit since I did this, so may need to revisit. 😉
