Forgotten Favourite Canva Effects (and where to find them)
Many older Canva tutorials use effects and strategies that are no longer found in the updated Canva editor.
Fortunately, Canva has made it easy to switch between the two editors at any time. This means that Canva creators can still use the varied shadow effects and fun tools such as liquify.
Here's a super quick "How to" video.

Now that is a tutorial! Thank you for this ❤❤
This is amazing! Thank you so much - exactly what I was looking for! 🙏🏻🙌
What photoshop are you using maam?
@@横山メイ I subscribe to the creative suite. I think this was done on the 2022/2023 version.
This is exactly what I was looking for, very helpful tutorial, perfect tutorial very easy to understand. thank you so much for your help. have a great day.
i dont have the revert option??
@@ralphfrancisjava8905 unfortunately, that feature is no longer available. 😢
Thank you for your video. Please, can I use Canva for Education to Create Book Covers I wish to sell on Amazon KDP? I will greatly appreciate if you can reference Canva in your explanation. Thank you.
This is the coolest ever ❤😂🎉
It didn't work. Removing the background on the final step did nothing after saving to a PNG.
Wow thank you so much, can we do this with designs ?
Hello , your tutorials are really helpfull. I have a question , How to be if I want to place photo not parralel to the viewer, when I created the shape, I need furher to place photo in perspective, how to achive this? Thank you
Thank you ma'am.What if I need to use Canva elements for a university assignment video ...can I use the free version it without any licencing issues ?
Thank You so much. I have been trying to figure this out...Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!!!
Aw great! I am so glad this was helpful 😊
Your tutorials are great, thank you!!
Thank you so much this is what I was looking for and I truly appreciate it
Tnaks
i don't have this blue box asking me if I want to revert, is there a way to find it?
The background for box disappears but not the wording.
Thank you so much for this. I tried it and I'm not sure if it's the new Canva update but it's not working anymore. :(
Thank you for this great video, so just to clarify. I can sell self-created templates from Canva on Etsy? (no pro items only free items)
Thank you.
Hello, please help. I cannot get straight information about stock videos and photos on canva. I run social media account - restaurant - and sometimes I would like to use stock videos or images with real people as a part of reels or instastories. Can I use them? Can I use somebodies faces while promoting my restaurant. Example: few young people sitting around, laughing and etaing pizza?
Omg. I have literally watched nearly 20 videos on how to do this and not one of them worked for me -- until I came across yours. I am so thrilled! Thank you so much!
Yayyy! That is so good to know! Thank you for taking the time to let me know.
This is the most helpful tutorial! Thanks you so much ❤❤
This is actually what I was looking for! TY
You saved my life! thank you so much <3
Yayyy! You're welcome! I keep meaning to upload an Illustrator version, but have been busy.
So, I make my logo by combining letters by using a free fonts from Canva and i didn't use any Canva's photo, graphics, videos but i just use Canva's free fonts. So just to explain my process of making my logo, basically I used free fonts in Canva called "Atsanee" and I used letter (Z, A , N) to create my logo. Then i arranged & combined the 3x letters into become a unique shape & i didn't use any photos, videos, graphics but just 3x letters using free fonts called Atsanee. Btw, i have checked that there is no other similar logo like my logo. So, does this mean my logo:- 1. Can be register as a trademark? 2. Will i get an exclusive license? 3. Will i get a copyright protection?
I wouldn't advise using Canva elements to create trademarked assets. However, you can arrange typography in a unique way without issue. Good luck.
great video tutorial
Thank you!!
Thank you for this video 😊
You are very welcome. Thank you for your comment.
Very nice
Thank you. I am glad you liked it.
Colette, Thank you very much for this video. I also like your style of presentation ( crawling ants..lol) . Subscribed. Update. I just made a projects with text as a frame on Canva +video behind... it is fantastic!!!. Thank you, thank you. Looking forward to the Postagrid.
This is amazing! Thank you so much for letting me know. I really need to start recording more videos. Also... yay, for Postagrid! A lot is happening in the background. 😉
Let's say you want to create a frame for a mockup, like for instance, a phone case.... so it's not just a shape, but it's a shape within a photo, such as a girl holding her cell phone, and you want the cell phone case to be a canva frame. Do you know how to do that?
I suspect that will involve creating a frame for the screen and uploading that as part one, cutting the screen out of the image and uploading it as part two, and layering. Alternatively, Illustrator might be a better option. If I have some play time in the next few weeks, I'll give it a go. 😉
@@ThinkWonky Okay.. I do have Photoshop.. that's what I've been playing around with.
That was neat. Thank you 🙏
Yay! Glad you enjoyed it.
Amazing tutorial. I have been searching everywhere on how to do this. Is there any way I can do this without photoshop? I can't afford another subscription. I use photopea a lot and have the pro version of canvas. Thank you so much.
I have seen a workaround using Windows software - I haven't used Photopea, but it is theoretically possible if there is a shapes option. Alternatively, could you try the free trial? Adobe often has a 14-day option, which is ideal for making a few quick frames for future use.
@@ThinkWonky I’ll try that. Thank you so much. If it works out then I’ll consider photoshop on the future. I’m not familiar with it at all. Thank you so so much.
@@user-lr5cx1ni4r Good luck! Photoshop can be a bit of a learning curve for beginners, but you only need a few steps to create a frame; hopefully, the tutorial will be enough to guide you.
thank u so much
Can we do this in photopea?
Unfortunately not. I have had a lot of requests to do a Photopea tutorial, so I tried it and became familiar with it. Despite looking and feeling very similar to Photoshop, it unfortunately doesn't have the same functionality (yet).
Hello it is not working to me. When i import the psd/pdf file in canva and try to delete the clipping mask picture the whole image got deleted also
Oh dear! I have never experienced this before. How frustrating for you. Some quick questions: 1. What device are you using (mobile/desktop), and have you tried on another device? 2. Are you: a. Hitting delete immediately after upload b. Selecting individual layers before hitting delete? 3. Are you selecting the shape from the shape dropdown menu (03:06) before saving it as a PDF. (th-cam.com/video/cPKP3oAazDE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=RbR_MVH8xCn06FzS&t=181) If none of these things help, let me know.
This is a great video! Thank you for sharing the process. I have watched your video along with a bunch of other suggestions on how to do this. I have submitted feature request to Canva. I think this process and a few other processes are way too long and Canva should build functionality that allows all of us to skip these kind of steps. Here’s what I sent them and I’m hoping it will encourage others to do the same… Feature request that would make you Canva users ecstatic: 1. Automatic export and import of file so Canva user does not have to transfer it through the Internet back-and-forth but the process would be emulated instantly by Canva. 2. Automatic conversion of black colors into custom frame shapes. I see lots of information regarding how to do things like make custom frame shapes. That and many other commonly performed functions should be a built-in feature in Canva. Too many users are exporting/downloading only to then immediately import/upload the file back to Canva so that they can continue using Canva for other steps.
Yes, this is true. I don't typically use Canva elements as frames (I only did this as a demo); I usually convert brand assets I design for clients into frames to give them more versatility. The download-upload workaround in Canva can be a bit frustrating, particularly if you are used to using specialist design software. Maybe one day, that functionality will be available. 🤞
This is amazing. Thank you, its super helpful
Hi again, another question ... If I want to use Pro images to accompany a blog post or website, is it sufficient to credit the photographer? Or do I need to edit the image significantly? Or should I stick to using Canva Free images (assuming there aren't limitations???)? Thanks!
Pro images on websites must be modified (or people can download and reuse them). You can use techniques such as a title over the top, a significant crop, and some recolouring to make the element different from the original. Placing the credit on the image is also a good practice.
Hi, thank you for your video. Can you help me understand how I can use Canva Pro images (I have a Canva Pro Subscription) in social media posts? How much do I have to edit it in order for it to be legal use? Is adding some text and a logo sufficient?
Apologies, I am only just seeing comments on this video today! Generally speaking, I wouldn't advice using any Canva elements for trademark items - they don't belong to you. However, you can arrange typography in unique ways without issue.
enjoyed your tut!!
Thank you!
FINALLY a video that gets STRAIGHT TO IT
Aw thanks - that's what I aim for! 😉
So happy to find this tutorial.thank you so much.
Your comment has made me so happy, too! Thank YOU so much for taking the time to comment.
Hi Collette. I do have a question. How can I accomplish creating a custom frame from part of the image. For example….let’s say I only wanted the middle portion of the image to be a frame? I notice you kept only the paths and remove the image. How can this be done by keeping the image and making only a part of it a frame?
Thanks for your question. In this case, Only open and export that individual shape OR, when all the layers have been imported into Canva, delete those you don't need. Hope that helps. 😊
THANK YOU
you earn a subscriber from me, I might be too late. but your vids are awesome
Thank you so much! I haven’t been well this year but hope to be back making videos in 2024. Your support is very appreciated.

Hello, I need some assistance. Will you be able to create a video for us to be able to create a Canva Frame for a blank flat white Christmas ornament that hangs from a Christmas tree branch? I want to create ornament mockups, but I have not been able to figure out how to keep the string it should be hanging from gold, and that hole it slides through open to make it look realistic. Any help you can provide me would surely be appreciated. 😊
The best way to do this is to use Illustrator. Do you have access to that?
Alternatively, use layers: create the ornament frame as shown in the video, then add the thread as a separate layer.
No, I don't have Illustrator. I am new tothis whole thing, so very detailed instructions are important now. Thanks for responding.@@ThinkWonky
@@carla-h4m ok - use layers on Canva. • Make the frame • Upload, position and add desired image • Upload original ornament with the thread attached. • Position over the frame, then crop so only thread is visible. Depending on the angle/position/frame shape this could be fairly simple or very faffy. You may even need multiple layers and crops. Good luck.
Oh my god this is amazing! Thank you!
Aw - you are very welcome.
