- The director of Origin at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival during its North American premiere.
Ava DuVernay directs an inspired adaptation of Isabel Wilkerson’s life, as she digs into the nuance of discrimination while writing what would become her New York Times bestselling book, Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents.

The way she structured this story and the presentation of the idea of CASTE is nothing short of genius.
I came here from hearing Stan Walker song I AM....looking forward to watching the movie in New Zealand
Me too. Fitting soundtrack indeed. Im here for the NZ release.

I'm back from seeing "Origin"
Masterpiece 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
The author of the book is brilliant but so is this director and how she designed the way to present the storyline of this movie. Two geniuses!
Thank you Ava, looking forward to seeing this movie.
I myself am from New Zealand and only heard about the movie through Stan singing "I Am"
Absolutely beautiful, so strong and powerful
I love and respect her work. I met her and she is kid, professional and an amazing and incredible talent
Congratulations mission accomplished!
To have an extraordinary director present without no mic to the audience- I’ll catch the next interview.
I love and admire you Ava DuVernay!! So empowered by you as an entire being! Thank you for blessing us with your lens of how we should see people
The scariest entity to a hegemonic hierarchy, is an intelligent woman, especially of indigenous race. This isn't a fictional narrative, it's just one that's easier to overlook because no one is accountable for that ideology. Thank you Angela, Ava and Aunjanue. It's no coincidence that, the name Angela, can make two words, "Angel A?".
Waiting for the movie to come to NZ, I was brought to you via Stan Walker! Man this movie , looks EPIC via the shorts!
Great conversation and questions from the crowd..
"I am" by Stan Walker is so fitting for thissss and excited
Inspiring...and then there's our Stan. Ka mau te wehi.
And that lovely dress. The aesthetic is encouraging. Thank you for that, too Black Intellectual Woman😊.
I saw the movie yesterday l’m now a permanent fan.
Caste has made dalits of India to live like worst than animals for thought of years. Thanks for showing the issue to world.

It appears that racists now enjoy special privileges at TIFF.
How so?
Look up the word racist as well as racism! Y’all stay deflecting 🤡
