very hard to get millions of subs with a channel like this as 90% of the population simply doesn't understand anything about it all. Much easier to just react to a 'funny guy' saying "dab lol"
OneHappyAlien his channel is amazing, but programming is more of a niche field, doesn't have that much of a broad appeal like a pure gaming channel would have for example. But I agree this channel is worth millions of suscribers. With time it will grow, the quality is there :D

I just found your channel and I feel blessed. It's often quite isolating as a young black kid who's gotten into the hobby of game development. Contrary to my expectations, gamedev seems to be really rare among programmers of my age, and especially my skin color. It's just really inspiring to finally find someone like you on TH-cam.

Definately show up to these, its always worth doing even if you have no professional skills you can still make art or models or test. In a recent game jam we worked with someone who had come along just because they were curious and we got them to go around the city and take photos of various interesting textures they found and record some of the sounds of the city and we used them in the procedural design. It ended up being really great and it is always super helpful to have someone who is flexible

Also, I thought that theme looked familiar... I also did that Global Game Jam! :O
I did mine in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia; and I ended up working with 4 amazing people with tons further experience than myself (including another programmer, a producer/designer, a freelance artist, and an audio wizard).
It was a 2d platformer with some interesting movement-related mechanics; focused around launching the player at various cartoony creatures to take control of them. For instance, some of which could climb walls, could jump, or fit into smaller spaces.
The biggest change I would make... hmmm... I wish I'd spent more time on the 2d animation implementation. Because of our lack of familiarity with 2d platformer animation and art constraints, we didn't have the opportunity to do a second pass and make it not look super-janky. lol.
All in all, I thought the end result was pretty cool, and the jam was a super fun experience.

This may be a stupid question, but in a Global Game Jam, do you have to use the Unity Game Engine only or can you use something like Unreal Engine 4?
1:05 I know the two playing ping pong. Those two are the sole reason I got into Virtual Reality. They created the Virtual Reality club at my school. And I got my first ever research position in college because of those two. The research was regarding Augmented Reality. Much love to them.

no requirements required, its all for fun when its all said & done. Show up, meet some people, learn some things, & get inspired! If youre interested I for sure suggest trying it at least once :D

You don't need to know how to program at all to develop games. Of course you'll need someone who can on your team, but 3d artist (Or even 2d), musicians, level designers, they all have their place.
As long as you can do something for the game even if it is just writing a story or something. You are a pretty nice help in game development

When I heard the concept I immediately thought of a game involving a spaceship:
You pilot a space ship that is floating in a randomly-generated asteroid belt. In the background is a massive beautiful sun that becomes eclipsed every twenty minutes or so (just like Earth's four phases of the moon).
Your ship uses solar panels (or spherical probes, whatever looks cooler) to gather energy from the Sun. Once you've gathered enough energy, it can perform one of three tasks: Build another solar panel, mine nearby asteroids, or attack invading space aliens. However, as the Sun eclipses in to darkness not only does it become harder to see the asteroids and aliens around you, but you also take in less energy (proportional to how much light is coming from the Sun).
Your ship's goal is to travel as far as you can, collecting minerals from the asteroids for points. However, when an alien tries to attack the ship, one of the solar panels uses its stored up energy to defeat it. If it uses up its reserved energy, it explodes. If you run out of solar panels and your ship is under attack, eventually that too will run out of energy and explode. The ore you gathered is counted and you get points towards your final score.
The fun in the game comes from piloting your ship, managing your energy reserves, learning about the asteroids in order to predict which contain the most valuable ore, avoiding the aliens (despite the entire thing being randomly generated), surviving a black out of the Sun, and upgrading your tools to make stronger/more efficient solar panels to do different tasks. Maybe one is better at mining than attacking? Maybe one is better at detecting ores? Maybe detecting aliens?
I don't know how to program, but this sounds like it'd be frustrating enough to play where it actually becomes kinda fun? You can challenge your friends to figure out who can survive the asteroid belt the longest?

Last week i participated in this even. It was really fun and i learned a lot. Although it was my very first time using Unity i am really happy with the skills i picked up in the event. Sadly my team did not complete our game since during the 48h hours we scrapped the first game while being 30h in and all of us hardly new how to program. But i think i will practice a lot and get a proper result next year.
What I liked 1. The premise, good topic to talk about 2. The video itself great editing, visuals, and sounds, nice job Jabril, I'm subscribed so I'll be back
