This is what unconstrained genius looks and sounds like. Tuomas is a visionary and he does exactly what he pleases and goes wherever his muse takes him. It's on us to keep up and follow along. That he leaves many behind is no surprise.
This... this composition is fucking epic. And it's as deep as the Marianas Trench and with more layers than a baklava. You can watch and listen to this 50 times and still be rewarded with new information, new insights.
The owl - avatar of Athena, goddess of wisdom. Floors plunge and deep dive into a blank page of an edition of Darwin’s On the Origin of the Species. The cloud of butterflies represents the myriad of the smallest events upon which our existence turns (the butterfly effect). The butterfly was also regarded as an emblem of the soul by the ancient Greeks. Even the relentless pace of the beat symbolizing the inevitability of the passage of time, the densely layered chorus of our ancestors, the ghostly presentation of the band members. Troy's deeply emotional rendering of the last verse. The ghostly sighs of the chorus at the very end as we embrace the light in our final moments. Layers upon layers and multiple meanings, folks.
Nightwish doesn’t make songs or albums - in recent years, they have published portfolios of art where the nature of our existence is the subject matter. This, it would seem, has been disappointing to a number of the members of the community. I’ve seen so many complaints about this masterpiece coming from people who have little to no understanding of what’s going on. If you’re here for Floor or the head bang, then you’re most likely going to be disappointed and you’ll find lesser amusements available to you elsewhere. Tuomas, Floor and Nightwish doesn’t need your approval. For some, this has moved past your understanding or inclination to understand.
Tuomas is an erudite man with a deep love of this world and for this existence. He is a man hungry for comprehension, for understanding and for love. This existence is awesome if you would only take the time to grasp for understanding. The glittering beauty of mathematics, music as the voice of God, the natural world with its "endless forms most beautiful". It's all there for the beholding. But you have to reach out for it, grasp it, you must have a savage thirst for comprehension as the price of admission.
This quote from Richard Dawkins from The Greatest Show on Earth is the perfect expression of what Tuomas is up to: “After sleeping through a hundred million centuries we have finally opened our eyes on a sumptuous planet, sparkling with color, bountiful with life. Within decades we must close our eyes again. Isn’t it a noble, an enlightened way of spending our brief time in the sun, to work at understanding the universe and how we have come to wake up in it?"

Hi - about the morph sequence: it's surrounded with a car-sized fictional anglerfish, a hyena walking a vertical cliff, an eagle carrying a full grown deer and an owl spinning it's head freely, so scientific accuracy was not the goal in this sequence anyway ;-)
This said, arguably, the common ancestor of humans and other apes quite likely looked a lot like modern apes or monkeys. We do not know what the exact sequence from last common ancestor really looked like. The chain of species in the morph sequence (sans Tuomas) are not any real current species, but rather approximations based on artistic decisions rather than scientific ones.
So sure, it is certainly not strictly correct (there's no way it could be), but well, it looks cool, and it likely is not even THAT far off from reality. Being "a little off" is the common thread here anyway - there really are anglerfish that look terrifying (but they're small), mammals that seem to defy gravity when climbing (but not to this extent) , eagles that really can carry deer (just not full grown ones), and the owls that can spin their heads (almost)... and the chain of human ancestors probably looked at least a bit similar to the morph (but not exactly).

Great song, great video, great reaction!!
The title of album Yesterwynde is actually a non exiting word that Troy came up with.
Yesterwynde is the opening track on new album, i belive its only like a intro, its a little over 2 min long, #2 on album then is a almost 10 min song, thats proberly another epic!! #3 is where i think they bring in a heavy track, and this Perfume of the timeless is #5.. so i think its gonna be a good mix of heavy songs, Epics, and maybe a full balled..
Perfume of the timeless, well its almonst a ghost energy song right, telling all these ancestors is perfume around in a timeless world, being around you still, also a message that your existens matters!! i feel tuomas also put in a little message that mankind could do better still, Einstein turn to ape..
I listened to this song maybe 50 times by now, and it is one i like to listen to with my headphones or without, its really a good song, when i can do so to me.
Some say Floors voixe is low in the mix, and i can agree its hard to get all words she sing, but if you look at it sounswise it sounds amazing!! and after a listen or 2, you know most of lyrics, and its no problem at all, its done fully on purpose for the sound experince of it..
cant wait for rest of album!!
    "Perfume of the Timeless"
    Released: 21 May 2024
The title of the album is a word made by band member Troy Donockley, which Holopainen describes as the feeling of time, history, memory, and being connected to past generation, who have "all had their lives, their ups and downs, and they don't exist anymore, except as atoms scattered all over the universe. And we're going to be in that state pretty soon as well. So that should give you something to think about."
Holopainen has described the album as being about humanism, history, and the inspiration thereof, and that outlook of the album is positive and optimistic ]

I'm with you on the spider thing, I am arachnophobic, and when you are confronted with an arachnid when you are not expecting it, WHAM...it really affects you.
