"Don't let them know your next move" Welcome to the weird world of ProgRock! I'm so happy you loved your first Kansas song. Steve Walsh is an angel of a singer. If you want to explore their catalog, I suggest "Song for America". It shows some of their musical virtuosity and lyric-writing prowess.

This is from the "Leftoverture" album, which is a masterpiece. Other bands from this era worth checking out are: Boston, Chicago, Eagles, Journey.......
I agree about the "Leftoverture" album! When it came out I played my 8 track of it so much I literally burned it up. It was okay though I have the vinyl as well!
I saw these guys in December 1980 as a 16 year old. Several years later, they played on my ship in the middle of the Indian Ocean on a USO Tour. These guys have always been great HUMAN BEINGS, and that is reflected not only in their music, but in their actions.
One of the most underrated bands and voices in my opinion. My favorite band growing up. There is so much music by them before and after this song came out and put them on the map. They are just as tight when playing live.
The " Leftoverture" album is from a different time and place. Every song is truly a masterpiece. The Wall, Out of No Where, and so many more... ❤❤❤ your reactions are priceless ❤
Whoa. If I'd known you had not heard this yet, I'd have suggested it months ago. Obviously, you GOTTA hear Dust In The Wind next. A totally different song, it's their other total classic. Point Of Know Return is another fun banger.
Kansas is pretty unique because they mixed styles so well. It's like they took some serious rock, some light rock, a touch of blues, and even some bluegrass, tossed it all in a blender and the miracle that is Kansas is what came out.
Listening to this song always brings me back to the days of Supernatural and how much of a hold that show had on tons of people 😭Now getting to see you react to it for the first time?? 🖤
Incredibly talented, great lyrics, extraordinary vocals and musicianship. A fusion of rock, classical and supernatural. The story of finding oneself and the troubles of youth, but carry on and triumph young man. Never give up. It's actually a beautiful rock ballad. ...I saw them at Mosport Park at Canada Jam in 1978 as the grand finale as it got dark and people got their lighters out to flash in unison to "Dust in the Wind". Singer was wearing shorts, athletic, and doing energetic moves. It was a glorious surreal time. Lovely organic reaction Aileen. You are fun and would have enjoyed the live performance.
Saw them twice in Germany, in 1981 with the original line up ... sensational ... in 1988 when Steve Morse was in the band ... but Kerry missed somehow. Did Steve back then already make the handstand on his piano ? 🤔🤘

Hi there. I would like to say a very big thank you for doing this song. It is one of my all-time favourites. Another one that they did that was absolutely brilliant was called.: Dust In the Wind. I think you will enjoy it. take care and thanks once again. Blessings to you.
This song is a staple on my practice playlist for bass. Lots of flying fingers, it’s a great workout for the hands. “Dust in the Wind” is a beautiful heartbreaking track.~Terry
Kansas was the first concert I went to in December 1976. It was to boost their Leftoverture album. They played most of the songs from the album, but saved Carry On for the encore piece and turned it into a 20 minute performance. I've been to a lot of concerts since then, but that one was still a Top Three (Styx and Rush the other two)
You're so right when you said "there's so much talent on this stage", and "the attention to detail". I was lucky enough to hear Kansas live in the late '70s. They sounded even _better_ live than in the studio. They're the only band I know that could do that.
Kansas was / is a great 70’s ~ 80’s band… They have many cool and spiritual songs. Left Overture where this song is from is their masterpiece album… Cool reaction and review 👊🏻
It's the old man's joy, when the music of my youth make young ladies smile 😄and I could see, that Steve Walsh's voice hit right into your heart. Honestly it still gives me chills after almost 50 years of knowing them. And I had the pleasure to see them twice live in the 80s. Other than some recommendations, that I usually see to Kansas videos, I recommend 2 early epic songs of album #2: Song for America and Lamplight Symphony ... you might need some tissues for the second .. it's such a heart touching song ... these lyrics in combination with the song ... unique 🤘
For Vietnam VETS this is an Anthem, Henry Winkler , Fonzi from Happy Days TV show, did the Movie Heroes. This was the theme song for the movie HEROES. Winkler portrayed a Vietnam Vet suffering from P.T.S.D. Thanks to KANSAS & Henry from a grateful VETERAN.
Welcome to the wonderful world of Kansas! They’ve been my favorite band for over 20 years and I was lucky enough to catch them live for the first time last month, on their 50th anniversary tour - believe me they’ve still got it so if you can hear them live make a point of doing it! Anyways my recommendation for your next Kansas song to check out is Icarus.
I have been a Kansas fan since 1972. I would love for you to listen to their album “Songs for America.” Remember to bring your lunch because they will take you on a journey.
Dream Voice to 1970s Steve Walsh: "Your singing will capture the heart of a beautiful lady from 2024!" 1970s Walsh: "What a strange dream I just had..."
Good morning Aileen😊 Absolutely fantastic reaction to Kansas' Carry On Wayward Son😊👍 In the 70s it was all about composition and instrumentation... Lyrics and the melody that supported them... The message...that is why the singers sang clear and enunciated their words because they wanted the public to understand what they were saying... They were poets actually in the sense of the ancient minstrels where their words were accompanied by the background music... words first... accompaniment second 😊 yes!!! you are exactly right and your description of the melody... it is a misdirection of movements... you don't know from which direction things are coming and that keeps things exciting and enjoyable 😊 Have a great day you and Arya 😊👍
Thank you Aileen for reacting to all these classics! Sometimes I want to be like you, not a stunning woman like we know you are, but someone who doesn’t know these songs and get again the feelings we’ve had the first time we’ve listened to them! You’ve got a music lover from France here, who loves to see you discovering the music he’s got running through his veins. Have a great day Aileen!
I'm of an age to remember this one when it was new, and watching/listening to Aileen appreciate it really reminds me of how much it blew me away back then. Thanks, Aileen!
One of the best progressive rock bands ever with an incredible range. Aileen, when you get a chance now you should listen to their song Dust In The Wind. Musically it is a 180 degree turn from this, but thematically it is very similar. Their lyrics are always worth zeroing in on. I think you will enjoy it. Thanks for sharing this one. 🙂
Damn this song is a banger! I haven't heard it for ~10 years and it hits way harder that it used to. Such a beautiful song with nice groove and great riffs!
Really, really glad you got around to doing a Kansas reaction. Other songs to check out are 'Point of No Return' and 'Dust in the Wind.' Excellent reaction. 👍👍
Kansas, by far, is my favorite band! The guy that has the huge hair is Robbie Steinhardt, he's the violin player and he sings lead on some songs. Steve Walsh-Lead vocals, keyboards, and percussion; Kerry Livgren-guitars, keyboards, and wrote many of their songs; Robbie Steinhardt-violin,lead and backing vocals; Phil Ehart-drums; Rich Williams-guitars; and Dave Hope-bass. Leftoverture from 1976 is my favorite(The Wall, What's On My Mind, Miracles Out Of Nowhere, Cheyenne Anthem, Magnum Opus are amazing songs from this album.) Can I Tell You, Lonely Wind, Song For America, Incomudro-Hymn To The Atman, Icarus Borne On Wings Of Steel, Point Of Know Return, Dust In The Wind, Portrait He Knew, Closet Chronicles, Lighting's Hand, Sparks Of The Tempest, Nobody's Home, People Of The Southwind, Relentless, Hold On, Got To Rock On, Play The Game Tonight, Chasing Shadows, Window's, Crossfire, Fight Fire With Fire, End Of The Age, Incident On A Bridge, Absence Of Presence, Throwing Mountains are all great songs to check out! There are only two of the original members left: Phil Ehart and Rich Williams and Kansas is still touring today! In 1976 I was 11 when i started my Kansas journey and still enjoy their music today; Absence Of Presence is a great album! Thank you for your reaction to my favorite band-Kansas!
Aileen, I just LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your reactions and how much you get into and FEEL the music! I can see it in your expressions and the way your body moves to the music! The music moves YOU! Keep up the TERRIFIC work and give us more and more reactions! I just LOVE you!!
"Dust in the Wind" is the song Kansas is known for (and is one of the greatest songs of all time), but another great song that most people overlook is "Hold On"
A few other tracks from Kansas I would recommend: Dust in the Wind, Hold On, and Point of Know Return. If you like those tracks then I can recommend another band based in Kansas City: Shooting Star. More specifically, the tracks Breakout, Hang On For Your Life, and Last Chance.
Kansas is #3 in my top five bands of all time. Pink Floyd, Supertramp, Kansas, Steely Dan and Toto being my list, with several others closely behind. Try anything from the album Leftovertour.its all amazing. Loved your reaction, as always. Cheers from Canada 👍😎🎸🎶🇨🇦
I was able to see them in Concert in 1979 and again in 1980. Great musicians and awesome concerts. And yes I'm Older in body but not in mind. I love your reactions to music I grew up with and got to see in concerts in the 70's and 80's. Stay Beautiful.
Let go! Kansas is one of my favorite bands ever since I was a little kid. If youbwanna hear more definitely check out "Point of No Return" "Dust in the Wind" or "Icarus Borne on Wings of Steel" those are ABSOLUTE BANGERS
MASTERPIECE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can't say I'm a big Kansas fan but this song is perfection!!!! I am a self taught drummer and I absolutely LOVE playing this song!!!
This is the best song ever written imo. Want a ballad? It's in there. A killer bassline? Ok. A shredding solo or two? Check. Fantastic lyrics? Yup. Harmonies? Ok. Crazy drum fills? Bingo. Keyboards? Another yes. Great vocals? Boom. What else do you want, because it has it all. It's closely followed by Blinded by the Light which you should definitely do if you have a chance.
This one always raises my spirits when I’m down… another Kansas hit is dust in the wind.. always makes me remember to enjoy the little things moments 🙏❤️🙏
Wow! Takes me back to my younger days. While attending mechanics school at Camp Johnson on Camp Lejeune some 47 years ago, a few of us got tickets to see these guys nearby. We jumped in my car and, on the way, stopped for gas and concert essentials, beer and snacks. As we headed off, the announcement came on the radio that the show was canceled.
The greatest era for rock was before my time, but I’m thankful to at least have grown up exposed to these bands from my parents music preferences. Boston, Kansas, journey and the like will forever be my favorite. It was real.
You made perfect sense! I love the progression of the song, like chapters in a book, describing a spiritual journey. I loved it when it came out (when I was 14) and still do today! Thanks for the memories! ❤
What keeps me come back to your videos is your 100 out of 10 smile😉😉 good vibe energy and your thoughts about the songs. 😁 keep em coming missy 😜 Skål from Norway🇳🇴
I am so glad you got to experience Kansas. Easily one of the most talented groups of their time. They were a staple on my cassette deck back and forth to college in the early 80's. I would play this song easily 10 times during the journey, it (and Dust in the Wind) highlight what an incredible rare gift they were! I love how much you truly appreciated them!
Love to see your reaction videos. I'm from Kansas and have been a Kansas fan for ages. Luckily I was raised around family and friends that shared amazing music with me. Dust in the Wind is my favorite. You should think about doing that next. ;) love and light!
My first paycheck as a teen I bought a small boom box from Albertson's and went to the local records store and bought my first cassette - Kansas.. "Carry on Wayward Son" was the first song I listened too, which kicked off 45 years of rock and metal music.. I still love this song.. Excellent review!
The Supernatural memories... That show was a rollercoaster in quality, but it was still a background to a huge part of my teens / twenties. And it burned this song into my head. 🙂 (That show - and Dean 😎 - had such great taste in music!)
I think it was always played in Supernatural in beginning of the last episode of the season when they did a quick summary of the season, started normally with "The Road so far" .. and then of cause this song. Was always quite epic.
Tons of classic rock tracks give me a sense of mysticism and fantasy and this track is one of the most prominent of that kind of vibe, I would love to see this style of rock return to modern music.
You are such a sweet and sensitive soul; we get the edits and pauses are necessary. Awesome job you truly let the music take you for a journey thank you for sharing your empathic, original, and authentic reaction.
Loved this when the album came out. No matter how many times I listened I could sense something different. The 70's was a time of frustration and emotional discovery in music. POP, Heavy Metal, disco, progressive, punk and many more came in and out of style on the radio and influenced so much. "Dust in the wind" and "He Knew" were very interesting and from the previous album the song "The Pinnacle" seemed to be the step off point for Leftoverture. KANSAS's music was an adventure toward enlightenment but a journey within.
Due to copyright blocks, I had to edit the video to be able to share with you all! (hope you understand

Musically it is a 180 degree turn from this, but thematically it is very similar. Their lyrics are always worth zeroing in on. I think you will enjoy it. Thanks for sharing this one. 🙂
They were a great live band back in the day. They started out kind of proggy, then they released Left Overture and hit it big.
No one ever wants the song to end. 🤣😂
Thankfully, I'm from small town Kansas as I saw the band playing local fairs live when I was a kid in 1993 and 1997. They were amazing live
1975…Kansas opened for Foghat $6.50 still got my stub ✌️
What keeps me come back to your videos is your 100 out of 10 smile😉😉 good vibe energy and your thoughts about the songs. 😁 keep em coming missy 😜 Skål from Norway🇳🇴
They were great back in the day!
A cornerstone of classic rock, what band. (Aileen, with that lovely smile that could bring world peace)😊
You should think about doing that next. ;) love and light!
that's that prog rock madness...lotsa changes and intricate passages! these guys are iconic!
Kansas became my favorite band when I got their vinyl "Leftoverature" . This is the first song of that album.
The redhead guy also plays violin.
Check out "Point of Know Return" for some of that... 🤙😎
PS Saw them live with a then unknown Cheap Trick. Magical evening!
