  • Full 40-minute steady ascent of the Deer Creek climb on Mount Charleston. Still well over 90Kg and although Strava reckoned my FTP was around 330w, my most recent TrainerRoad ramp test before flying out told the truth (310w)! Pleased to dip in under 45 minutes for this climb - especially given the altitude.
5-minute warm-up beforehand, riding from the parking lot to the foot of the climb, marked by the Kyle Canyon road / Deer Creek road junction.
This climb felt tough and I'm not used to putting out that sort of effort at altitude. The ride started at 6600 ft. elevation and topped at around 8400 ft. so a lot higher than I would ever normally ride.
Managed to hold reasonable power, averaging around 315w for the 40 minute climb. My legs felt decent on the day but my breathing gives away how hard I found taking in enough of the fresh mountain air!
Thanks to John, Anna and Mike for giving me the opportunity to ride in such beautiful scenery and Anna for keeping me honest on the climb!
