As a baseball historian I have to say there are other players that should have won multiple MVPs but never did because the rules prohibited players from winning the award more than once until 1931. For example, Babe Ruth only ever won one MVP award as his career ended before 1931. Also the MVP award was only ever given to one player in the entire MLB, until 1931 when it was given to the best NL and AL player. Prior to this the MVP award only started from 1911 and discontinued from 1915, as it was known as the "chalmers award" then after the chalmers automobile company, but was discontinued after the owner found it was not improving the sales of his cars. Therefore between 1915-1922 no MVPs were issued. This largely coincided with Babe Ruth's time in the league. Had Babe Ruth enjoyed the criteria of awarding MVPs to the best player in the league multiple times, and had he enjoyed non-biased voting as well, it's likely that Babe Ruth would have won at a minimum 5 or more MVP awards unanimously. Also Ty Cobb before Babe Ruth was considered the greatest player ever in baseball, and would definitely have won the MVP award multiple times. Regarding other players who definitely should have won unanimous MVPs after Babe Ruth, but didn't due to horribly biased voters at the time, Ted Williams is the name of once in a life time player that sticks out like a sore thumb. Ted Williams for example disgracefully lost the MVP to Joe DiMaggio, despite having the last season in major league baseball hitting over .400 with a .406 Batting Average while hitting 37 home runs that season, compared to DiMaggio who won the MVP that season in 1941 hitting .357 and had 30 home runs. Even more disgracefully Teddy ballgame lost the MVP won year to Jee Gordon. Here are their stats side by side: Ted Williams: 150 G, .356/.499/.648, 1.147 OPS, 216 OPS+, 186 H, 36 HR, 137 RBI, 3 SB, 10.5 bWAR Joe Gordon: 147 G, .322/.409/.491, .900 OPS, 155 OPS+, 173 H, 18 HR, 103 RBI, 12 SB, 7.7 bWAR Ohtani winning the MVP award multiple times is a tremendous feat, but let's not forget the context of how he became the first to do this, as a tribute to the many legends of the past who were either slighted or didn't have the opportunity to win the award due to its non-existence or win it multiple times due to the presiding rules.
Another great feat by the legendary Shohei Ohtani. Winning an MVP on both leagues. Last player to do that, was the great Frank Robinson. Next up, a cy young award? A triple crown on hitting? 60/60 club? The sky's' the limit with that man.
He is the second player to win the award in both leagues since Frank Robinson of the 1961 Sin City Reds and 1966 Baltimore Orioles, and the first in history to win it two years in a row across leagues. No complaints!Congratulations on winning the 'full vote' award, Shohei!🐶🎊🦸🏻♀️
Only he and Frank Robinson have won the MVP in both leagues. I think one award should be named after each of them when Ohtani retires. Though Frank should have had his name on them years ago. The next unanimous decision for a legendary Japanese player will be Ichiro going into the hall of fame.
Just remember that until 1931 the award was only given to one player in the entire league, and no player was allowed to win the award more than once. If you look up the history of MLB prior to 1931, you have a lsit of some of the most incredible giants of the game known to ever step up to plate. Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Rogers Hornsby, Tris Speaker are names you should start with. Also notably, Free agency in Major League Baseball (MLB) began in 1976, after the landmark Flood v. Kuhn Supreme Court case in 1972 which effectively destroyed the "reserve clause" in baseball. With the end of the reserve clause, players were given a broader range of options as free agents and we saw more heavy movement of baseball players between each league.
The MLB should and will establish the "Shohei Ohtani Award" sooner or later. However, the challenge lies in the numerous high criteria and top records that fans want to include for qualifying candidates. As a result, the only eligible candidate may end up being Shohei Ohtani himself, potentially for a long time-until Shohei and Mamiko’s son eventually appears on the field.
Its crazy shoehi is now the 2nd player to win an mvp in both leagues and its year 1!! He's gonna be the first player ever to win 2 in both leagues soon
Ohtani’s talent soars like an eagle, with the vast breadth of its wings casting wide shadows over the land, yet his spirit remains grounded, nestled in the soft earth of deference and graciousness.

@@SteveDave211 If you weren't a casual who just started watching baseball, you would have known that Ohtani had a better single season than David Ortiz, the greatest DH in MLB history. Ortiz's best season, when he came 2nd in the 2005 AL MVP voting, had: - 1.001 OPS - 5.3 WAR - .300 AVG - 47 HR - 148 RBI - 88 XBH - .604 SLG - 363 Total Bases In comparison to Ohtani's season: - 1.036 OPS - 9.2 WAR - .310 AVG - 54 HR - 130 RBI (while batting 1st, unlike Ortiz) - 99 XBH - .646 SLG - 411 Total Bases So sit down and appreciate greatness.
@@SteveDave211there we go with what if or what could have happened. The fact is it didn’t. Even with the penalty for not playing defense is what makes this more impressive.
I love how it's his MVP announcement and he was more worried about Decoy and in the end he says to his wife that he didn't hear the results, and he was just shaking peoples hands without knowing if he'd won or not. LOL..
But they used the same thing for people like A-Rod in the 40/40 club when he mashed 42HR and stole 46 bags. And it's used even for Acuna who mashed 41 HR and stole 73 Bags. If anything, Acuña should field more slighted for being the only one a part of the 40/70 club. What are we going to do now, say that Ohtani was part of the 54/59 club?
Well Babe Ruth actually won it before. Now think about this, Babe Ruth was the first player in history to hit 200 home runs, 300 home runs, 400 home runs, 500 home runs, 600 home runs, and 700 home runs for a career. At the time he retired he had 336 more home runs than the next man, who was his teammate Lou Gehrig. Not to downplay Ohtani, but imagine what the reaction of the fans were to Babe Ruth at the time, indeed they were incredible, and it´s why baseball became a such a popular sport turning athletes into even bigger celebrities.
@@ST-lb9tt I'd prefer to see him win it as a starter, because he's too good to only use for just 1 inning. And I like seeing his approach to pitching as a starter eating up innings and aggressively attacking the strike zone.

His first AL and first NL MVPs are unanimous. Forgot if his 2nd AL was unanimous as well?
@@Skye-tb7oq Yes. He was unanimous in 2023.

本当にドジャースに移籍して良かったな。
Thank you for the happy movie ❤
實至名歸🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Ese hombre fue echo en otro planeta ese hombre no es humano que viva el mejor del mundo muchas felicidades para el
Great interpreter!!
Shohei “One of One” Ohtani
3 time unanimous is insane....and 3 in 4 years (so close to 4 in a row)...only thing left is cy young ang gg
year after year s.ohtani keeps defying my expectations, and now he's got n.l. mvp and world series ring -my hat comes off
I haven't seen anything like this since steroids Bonds or Ted Williams, and before that Babe Ruth.
you the same robert smith @ china lake p.d.?
@@johnchieze530 I don't know who that is, I just know Connie Mack is Mr. Baseball.
Fists bumps his wife but hugs his agents family. 😆 MVP!!!
6 years ago I discovered baseball because of this GOAT
Ahh yeah? I discovered baseball back in 1922 because of Mr. Baseball, Connie Mack.
Holy cow 7 years in #Anaheim and nada
He moves to the Dodgers and becomes a 50/50 plus a WS championship all,in one year
Ohtani’s talent soars like an eagle, with the vast breadth of its wings casting wide shadows over the land, yet his spirit remains grounded, nestled in the soft earth of deference and graciousness.
Parabéns GOAT!!
Falando direto do BRASIL🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
おめでとう🎉 ❤心から嬉しい😊 肩の状態が心配ですが、どうか来年ピッチャーとしても活躍して欲しいです。真美子さん本当にお綺麗です😍
You heard it from him, he’s rehabbing and is training for next season. He’s One of One.
I love shohei l admire him so much he is my favorite player

Decoy wants the Most Valueable Pitcher award
I would be happier if his wife got the question...
Nah, they don't usually ask the wife/partner any questions.
*Ohtani's most impressive Records with the Dodgers:*
- Set the franchise record for most home runs in a single season with 54 home runs
- Achieved a 9.2 Offensive bWAR, the highest in Dodgers' history, surpassing Mike Piazza’s 9.0 mark in 1997
- Holds the franchise record for most RBIs in a single game with 10 RBIs (in the game he went 6-for-6 with 3 home runs, 5 XBH and 2 stolen bases)
- Most XBH by a LA Dodger (99)
- Recorded 10 straight games with an RBI
- 411 total bases, setting a LA Dodgers record, surpassing Adrián Beltré’s 376 total bases in 2004
- Hit the most home runs in a single season at Dodgers' home games with 28 home runs
- Achieved a 190 OPS+, the highest in a qualified season in Dodgers history, surpassing Mike Piazza’s 185 OPS+ in 1997
- Set a Dodgers record with 134 runs scored, leading the majors in this category
- Posted a .646 slugging percentage, leading the NL and setting a new Dodgers record, surpassing Gary Sheffield’s .643 mark in 2000
- Led the Dodgers in all offensive categories in a single season
Well deserved unanimous MVP!!!
As a DH though. Imagine if Mike got to sit all day.
@@SteveDave211
Ohtani being a DH and still having 9.2 bWAR is what makes it more impressive, genius
@Zagirus If you let Acuna or Lindor sit all day they would pass him up on WAR.
@@SteveDave211
If you weren't a casual who just started watching baseball, you would have known that Ohtani had a better single season than David Ortiz, the greatest DH in MLB history.
Ortiz's best season, when he came 2nd in the 2005 AL MVP voting, had:
- 1.001 OPS
- 5.3 WAR
- .300 AVG
- 47 HR
- 148 RBI
- 88 XBH
- .604 SLG
- 363 Total Bases
In comparison to Ohtani's season:
- 1.036 OPS
- 9.2 WAR
- .310 AVG
- 54 HR
- 130 RBI (while batting 1st, unlike Ortiz)
- 99 XBH
- .646 SLG
- 411 Total Bases
So sit down and appreciate greatness.
@@SteveDave211there we go with what if or what could have happened. The fact is it didn’t. Even with the penalty for not playing defense is what makes this more impressive.
Decoy ran away because the award wasn't his. Congrats, Shohei!
I love how it's his MVP announcement and he was more worried about Decoy and in the end he says to his wife that he didn't hear the results, and he was just shaking peoples hands without knowing if he'd won or not. LOL..
Soooo many records he has!
🎉🎉GOATANI 🦄🤴💙🥳
decoy won the MVD award in 2024 season...after that first pitch shut-out inning on the mound @ dodger stadium...decoy is most-valuable-dog
Fun fact: Mamiko is a former professional basketball player; she retired last year.
Goatani!!!
Decoy was like, I think I have an MVP trophy coming out of my butt.
親子でのMVP受賞も初🙇🐶おめでとう🎊ございます🎉!
Congratulations
0:18 「聞いてなかった(oops I wasn’t listening)😆」lol
Decoy believed he was the MVP, but was shocked.
Saying 50/50 seems to be a downplay his stats when he got 54/59...
Thumbnail Ohtani’s expression LOL

He's the Steph Curry of baseball.
Ohtani awakened the dormant abilities of the Dodgers players.

Very classy woman ❤
If this guy can win cy young, it’ll be crazy.
His best chance is to win Cy Young as a closer like Eric Gagne. 55 Saves, sub 2 ERA and only 80+ Innings.
@@ST-lb9tt I'd prefer to see him win it as a starter, because he's too good to only use for just 1 inning. And I like seeing his approach to pitching as a starter eating up innings and aggressively attacking the strike zone.
@@robertsmith2088 So would I tbh, but playing 2-way with his twice repaired pitching arm, in order to qualify for a Cy Young as a starting pitcher he has to pitch 162 innings minimum which he did in 2022 to the detriment of his hitting. A closer can win a Cy Young without meeting the minimum 162 IP criteria.
@@ST-lb9tt Yeah that's right.
It's crazy how much baseball has changed over the years.
I remember in the 1880s it would be normal to see pitchers literally winning 45 games a season.
満票でMVPだが、これでもまだ我々は彼の才能の半分しか見ていない。
