Hard lens to track down. I lucked out and found a virtually unused one off a local online classified ad. I got it for my Leica III but then it stayed on my M240 for about a year. It’s got wonderful contrast and a sort of 80s/90s rendering. I found that it was much sharper at 1- 8 meters than further or at infinity. Love the build and handling. The focus tab is perfect and very Leica like.

Ah yes! Radio towers on top of the hill, I am always attracted to photograph them when I see those! I am currently on a quest to find compact lenses for travel and street set up with my rangefinders. I have a Sumitar 50mm (5cm) collapsible which is a f/2. I wonder how does it compare with its performance? I would expect the Skopar to have better flare control as the Sumitar is non-coated or single coated; and if the size is worth sacrificing from f/2 to f/2.5
Stopped down the Summitar is great (f3.2 onwards), Maybe similar size and weight. Yes Skopar should have better contrast

I have been off and on thinking about getting one of these for years. I just pulled the trigger on one finally. I already have the later 50mm elmar M collapsable f2.8 (tiny collapsed). and I have been using my amadeo adapter with a 5cm f1.4 nikkor s (I love the rendering of that one for black and white). This voigtlander lens just looks fun to use! The other voigtlander that is hard to find is the collapsable heliar f2! that one I would love to try as well.

Guess the name kind of says it all a nice lens for color photography :) Have the feeling most of the modern Voigtlanders are made for this as for B&W you could just get a vintage lens and push the image a bit in contrast I guess.

Check out the tiny Canon 50/2.2 from 1961， the last ltm 50 Canon introduced. Smaller, faster and 1/3 the price of the Color Skopar.

I have that in Contax RF mount
In my experience it performs poorly in front of sensors. Mushy corners even at f/8. Much better with film…I use it with my M6 and really like the results.
I asked Stephen Gandy a couple years ago if they would release it again in M mount. He said no. It’s sad. They go for quite a high price on eBay. I tracked them for a few years.
Yes I asked my Voigtlander contact too last year. They didn't say no but I pointed out the obvious current gap in the market for a small 50.

Cosina have videos on their TH-cam page (all in Japanese) about a new Voigtlander 50mm f2.2 Color-Skopar and a 50mm 3.5 APO-Lanthar. Both are rumoured to be released within the next 2-3 months.

For mtn bikes, if you are spinning the back tyre, the best trick is to remain seated and lean back a little bit to put a lot of weight on the contact patch. I Used to stand up and try and blast up the hills and a pro told me to try sitting and doing the trick of letting physics work for me ..sorted . Great YT channel BTW , cost me 3000 CDN for a new to me SL :)
Thanks Robert! Yes I tied to hang my ass back but once I stopped it was impossible to get going again as the first pedal push spun the wheel each time. It was pretty steep to be fair, it was hard even walking. All good fun. Congrats on your SL! (Sorry to cost you money!)

@@shoefantasia1412 yes Canon LTM are still cheaper / faster etc
But one sold recently had this in its description - "uncleanable haze between cemented elements. This a common problem for this lens."
Thanks Dan, that sounds like some of the Canon LTM lenses but these are much newer. I can't confirm either way but mine is clean currently.

There is no need mentioning a lens can be focused to infinty.
ALL LENSES GET ADJUSTED AT INFINITY
It is important to know The closest distance of a lens.
THERE ARE VARIATIONS ON THE CLOSEST DISTANCE PER BRAND
AND PER TYPE OF LENS

My God you were in hurry, had hardly time to see the test images. I paused the video a couple of times but later I forgot about it, this is NOT WATCHABLE for me.

Thanks RS, sorry the photos were too quick for you. I was trying to keep the video closer to 8mins so most photos were 2 secs each not the usual 3 secs. I'll go back to 3 for next video. ..and yes that apartment was nuts (luckily it was only a common room shared by guests).
