    What's your favorite 50mm lens? (By the way this lens has 9 aperture blade! forgot to mention it)

    IMO Leica users generally overlook the Summarits for their highlight rendering especially when used against strong lightning, it looks like the flare is not well corrected. My little experiences of the older 40mm f2.4 and the 5cm f1.5 tell me that the Summarits do render different from the Summicron. The Summicron is a allrounder under all lighting conditions, good colour seperation, however, the Summarit's mid-highlight and mid-shadows rendering give its signature uniqueness, they shine in B&W photos, it takes some practices to bring out their full potentials, it is not for everyone.

    Great review. I purchased the f2.4 35, 50 and 75mm summarits and very pleased with the results, looking for the 90mm to complete the set. The 75mm is great, make a review if you happen to get one.

    This Summarit is stellar, nowadays the wannabe photographer aim to large apertures cause is the first thing they read onlime, ignoring that is not all in a lens. Tjis summarit its my favorite leica lens, i prefer it over the summicron every day of the week. Contrast, 3d, sharp, advanced modern look, its a big piece of optical science

    I bought the Summarit-M 75mm f2.4 and it is superb 👌 I bought it from the store at Leitz Wetzlar.
    By the way, I also bought a black M-A. The rangefinder had slipped through quality control without being properly set. This I didn't discover until I returned home and processed the film on the other side of the World.😡

    My favourite 50 mm lens is the Summilux. It was very expensive, but delivers 100 %. I've only one Summarit, the 2.5/90 and it's superb. Got it second hand for USD 1,300, and it looks and performs like brand-new. Great review and keep on rolling. (BTW: the Elmar-M 3.8/24 is stunning too!)

      Thanks for sharing. The Summi 50 is a great all rounder lens. My travel 50mm lens. Thanks for watching. Stay tuned for more lens reviews coming.

    dude people either love this lens, or are hiding it from everyone hahaha. I cannot find it used anywhere. Have you tried the light labs elcan 50? about the only 50 I can find with a focusing tab.

    Last weekend I shot with my Zf on 40mm and realised that I somehow just miss the slightly more telephoto focal length like 40 and 50mm on my Leica rangefinders.
    Glad you had this video on this topic. I'm completely sold on this lens now and will check eBay for under 1000$ prices :)
    Thanks man, really great video as always and helped me in my search looking trough 50mm lenses of Leica, Voigtländer etc. :)

    Sold my Zeiss 50 Planar and now looking for another 50mm. Have had my eye on the LLL 50mm Elcan and the new Voigtlander 50/2.2 (not released yet).

      My favorite 50 cost around $500 and it’s the Nikkor SC 50mm f1.4 close focus of 1.5”. LTM This lens is super small, fast and incredible. There is no such Leica lens of its kind. And this lens was made in the 50’s. Crazy awesome bokeh and amazing image quality. I have some samples on my Instagram and on threads.

    I was planning to buy the Summarit as my first 50mm. After watching your video I'm even more convinced!
    can you please share the link where to buy the super slim filters? :)

      eBay. I get the Walkway 39mm UV filter. I see no effect on image quality with or without it. So I guess the are good. Thanks for stopping by and sub for more

    I would like to compare this one with (also legendary) Canon FD 1,4 50mm on 2,4 aperture...

    • @GastonShutters
      @GastonShutters  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I actually own that canon lens and have adapted it to the M mount but both lenses are completely different. The Summarit has a modern rendering whereas the Canon FD very vintage with glow and all that flavor and imperfections of a vintage lens .

    Leica should have kept the Summarit 50mm, and taken back some of the market from Cosina products, Voigtlander/ zeiss zm.
    But they have made some dumb decisions. This is just another one.

      not the film camera and the lens tho, they are so small and are a better performer than the canon rf lineup

      The bodies are pricey. And the lenses o have to agree that they are too. But the most rewarding pieces of equipment to use IMO

      @GastonShutters I get it leicas are for a curtain breed the kind with money to burn which Is not a bad thing there are much worse things you can spend your money on. But there's a reason you don't see many working pros using leicas. For the price there are much butter photographic tools out there. That being said I would love to get my hands on an m11 but I'm poor. If I was rich I'd probably get a leica as a nice compact travel camera and a nikon z9 for real work but for now my z6ii does everything I would want and z lenses are fantastic.

      You have different priorities. That's why you're happy with a Nikon built by a robot. It can focus for you and has a hundred buttons so you're always a quick press away from needing help with mundane tasks.
      Was I right on the money.. or are nonsense self serving assumptions a waste of everyone's time?

    • @GastonShutters
      @GastonShutters  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @Youmemba there are many professional photographers using Leicas. Probably one of the camera brands with the upmost professionals ever since they invented the 35mm film.
      Yes Leicas are not the best at certain things. Just like some other cameras are not as good as Leicas is at what it does. Leicas M11 are such a rewarding experience aside from the great image quality. Something that I cannot say about latest modern cameras that pretty much make the photographer a mundane trigger pusher.
      It’s really hard not to pick up a photography book from any of the legend icons of photography and not having created their master pieces using Leicas.
