    Voigtlander Leica lenses/ Leica M Voigtlander lenses + LTM Voigtlander lenses - Small manual focus lenses with great optics. These are some of the smallest manual focus lenses ever produced for any camera system. Voigtlander lens review comparison with sample photos for each lens.
    Small Voigtlander screw mount lenses (Voigtlander M39 lenses) + Voigtlander that I use on Leica cameras: for digital on a Leica CL, Leica M8, Leica M240 (and the Lumix GH5), then for film on a Leica M2, M3, M4P and Leica M6. You can also use Voigtlander on Sony mirrorless, Fuji-X, Nikon Z series and any other mirrorless camera.
    I also use Voigtlander lenses on micro four thirds bodies such as the Lumix GH5. Video includes the following lenses and you can see individual writeups and more photos for each lens on the links below. All mentioned lenses are Voigtlander Leica M mount or LTM mount lenses.

    Thank you for creating this video. I just purchased a Leica CL and I'd like to obtain some M mount lenses for it. I can't wait for my adapters to come in. I also shoot Olympus Pen F and I'm currently using a vintage Leica Elmarit 90mm f2.8 on it. Thanks for taking some of the pain and confusion out of the purchase process.

    Great overview! When I looked around for a wide angle for my Leica M, I opted for a 35mm/1.7 Ultron. What a great lens that is, even ignoring the very reasonable price! It comfortably outperforms my Canon EF 35/1.4L (version I), especially in the corners. I have never felt the need to replace it with anything else.

    I am a fan of Voigtlander lenses because I also like my pictures to have that vintage feel. I own a few of them and crave a few more. You missed out my two favourites; the 35mm F1.7 Ultron and the 50mm F1.5 Nokton. I highly recommend them. I'm saving for the 75mm f1.5 next. And one day maybe a couple of the ones you've mentioned.
    I don't actually have a Leica camera, but I use these lenses on mirrorless bodies (both FF and APSC) with great success.

    thank you for sharing. I am fan of Voigtlander lenses too, for bargained price, and good build quality. Especially those made of brass, and some with homage to old lens barrel design. It is a pleasure to use such manual lenses.

    Great Channel, Matt.
    Recently I bought a Leica M8 with a Voigtländer Nokton Classic 1.4/ 40mm. I am very happy with both. At some point in time I probably will be looking to purchase one or two additional lenses. I am asking myself how the Voigtländers compare to the new kid on the block (so to speak) i.e. 7 Artisans...
    I look forward to your upcoming Videos!

    During my "Shutterbug Ads" days (1970's), I looked around for interesting/odd Leica screw mount lenses. One was the 28mm f/3.3 Angenieux, which popped up from time t time. I tried to bid for one, but was "beaten to the punch" several times. Eventually, I gave up and bought a 28mm f/2.8 Canon lens, instead. Speaking of oddball lenses, I did consider the Canon 19mm f/3.5, but these were rare and expensive, with or without finder. It did seem that 35mm SLR lenses were easier to find/buy in the 1970's, so I bought a 24mm f/2.8 Nikkor for the Nikon F-2/FM.

    Super vid Matt, lots of information presented in a non- didactic( I hate being lectured at!) way, backed up with working experience. Nicely done. I own one of those often disparaged M8s with an assortment of Voigtglass, a Leitz Elmar and a Summicron. A Voigtlens I am happy to commend to you if you find one of condition and price that you like is the Nocton f1.5 50mm asph .Almost as fast as a Summilux 1.4, superb build quality, excellent image quality and about1/8 of the price. I don't think you would be disappointed. It's another pocket sized piece of optical excellence from CosVoigt that can save its owner a ton of money, and deliver the goods with the prospect of very long term reliability. Looking forward to more of your vids so please keep them coming if you can manage to squeeze that into the time you must apply to your day job! Once again, good effort Matt and many thanks.

I have a lot to come from them so stay tuned if you prefer cheaper alternatives to Leica (like me!.. I appreciate good value + quality even if I do use Leica too). Talking of old 1.5s.. I just bought a few old lenses to complete / compare to Leica mount so they are in the pipeline too! :) Thanks for your support and words. Matt

    Super illustration photos Matt. For me the Skopar series are the best all round best bang for buck and usable, especially in LTM mount. But have you tried the 'legendary' 28mm f/3.5 Skopar in LTM mount? It's no longer made and was manufactured just a bit better than the others in brass, but it's a lens I'd rather carry for general use than my 28mm Summicron. It gives little away at the normal f/stops only falling down in the extremes.

    A delightful review of the Leica lens alternative. And your photos are bloody wonderful. What brought me here was a review of the Sigma fp (L-mount) camera that showed wonderful images taken with the Voigtlander 75mm. I have more than a passing interest in this camera, but I am stymied by the lack of lenses from Sigma that pair suitably with its design. At this writing (10/4/20) there's only the one, a 45mm f/2.8. My interest in the fp is as a still photo camera (while I wait for Sigma to get off their backsides and produce the promised full frame Foveon camera, now indefinitely delayed) . . . thus your page. I am only vaguely familiar with Voigtlander, and find that these are all manual focus lenses, which rather pleases me. Despite my aging vision, I am more confident with manual focus, as I was the the Zeiss Loxia lenses on my (now defunct) Sony a7Rii. My questions are: Can you think of any reason why I should not be able to successfully and creatively pair some of these Voigtlander lenses and the Sigma fp; and which adaptor should I be looking for?

      @MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Leonard Norwitz thanks for your kind words. There are more in depth reviews of these lenses too, check the series 1 playlist (M mount glass). Yes I use a L mount Leica CL so you’ve come to the right place. Get a Leica M-L adapter and then the fun really starts! Thanks Matt for your video. I particularly enjoy a quick overview of CV lens. I have the 15mm LTM lens which I love on film body but for some reason it doesn’t work on my M10 even with adapter. I wonder if you encounter such an issue when using on Leica digital? I’m wondering if I should pick up the M-mount version 2 lens? A bit bigger than the diminutive LTM Version.

    • @MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom
      @MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks William, when you say doesn't work do you mean purple edges to photo? You need version 3 M mount to fix this I believe but I haven't used myself. I only use LTM on film and I would expect issues on digital the same as my early M mount 15mm.

    • @Willsydney
      @Willsydney 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Matt Osborne Hi Matt, I also used the LTM on film and it worked brilliantly. But when I tried it on my Leica digital, the camera doesn’t even recognise that there’s a lens attached. It’s as if there’s no lens detected. Weird.
      Now you’ve got me thinking about the 35mm F1.4 Nokton MC due to its diminutive size instead of the 35mm F1.2. This lens to go on the M2.

    The first Leica lenses with 39 mm thread had been made '
    by the Hugo Meyer Optical Works in Görlitz; to test the quality of the Barnack camera.
    Have you ever seen a Meyer-Leica 39 lens?

    Thanks Matt, loved the review. Please consider a close look at the 25 and 21mm Skopars. Is there much difference? How much is just the focal length matter in use? Is there much difference in color rendering, focus fall-off, etc. Any difference between the LTM and the M mount for use on APS-C cameras, Fujifilm in particular. Thanks in general for your videos, love you enthusiasm.

      Based on experience of the 21 & 25 Biogons (see videos) and Nokon 35/1.2 II (see video) I would say the Voigtlander for bokeh and shallow DOF and a Biogon for micro-contrast and sharpness. Check out the Biogon 24mm vid as a taster. (The best 35mm is said to be the 2.8 Biogon but not for portraits).

      @@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom yeah I did see it. But there are no comparisons and it's more expensive than the color skopar (used). Also I have to guesstimate the field of view between 35mm and 50mm. What would be your choice if you had to choose only one (around) 35mm LTM lens under 600€?

    I know you wanted to do this pretty quick, but it would have really helped if we’d seen each lens actually on the Leica instead of showing us the Leica lens on the Leica in comparison. Thanks.

      Thanks Chloe, I’ve since done detailed individual videos for most of these lenses shown. See the playlists. You’ll see the lens(es) on cameras.

      Some are OK prices if buy used like me. Nikon are cheaper but it depends what system you use (or some Soviet glass is great prices)
