I like the Marshall way better - the Vox is more nasally and airy sounding - almost sounds like more of the dry signal isn't being affected. I am intrigued by your Marshall settings though - I've never seen the Presence dimed and the Treble taken out.
GOOD JOB in making this video! Was looking for DSL vs AC10 clean comparison. - I currently have an AC10 , it sounds abit too "forward sounding" to me ... Not sure does it mean "boxy"? Or just that it has a closed-back cab. I actually like it , using it with a MIAB pedal at the moment ... Looking to sell it off, and get a DSL20CR instead. - Am I making a mistake letting the AC10 go, for a DSL ? (Considering the way I'm using my AC10 now anyway) 🤔
Thanks! In case you're wondering I chose the AC10 in the end as it took up less space in my flat. Also, I preferred the clean & reverb of the Vox. If I was playing heavier music I'd go for the Marshall but for now I'll keep playing my Vox.
@@Ksumsar :O Thanks for sharing that info with me! I quite like the Vox's clean too.. Hmm.. What did you think about the DSL20CR's distortion/gain sound , in lower volume , when played in your flat ? And did you have to keep it in Low (10watts) mode all the time?
@@272needler No worries, this is the DSL40CR btw, I found that I actually preferred the tone at the half power switch e.g. 20 W and I got nice enough tones at low volumes. The Vox high gain tone gets a bit hairy and messy however the Marshall definitely has more variety of gain tones, it's got two channels and has a more neutral sound to it so you can use pedals for different sounds whereas the Vox will always sound Voxy to me which can be a good or a bad thing depending on what you like :)
I have a Vox AC10c1, I bought a Marshall DSL20cr, right away I ugraded the 70 80 stock speaker to a Celestion Greenback sounding Warehouse Invader which has more mids than the Greenback. The Marshall amp has NO bass/presence, when switching from the classic gain channel (which produces absolutely no gain) to the ultra gain channel, you go from hardcore metal gain from the ultra channel to hearing no gain at all on the classic channel. I didnt expect to buy a Marshall tube amp yet prefer my DRRI for cleans plus come to the realization that simply using different effects pedals with multiple different gain tones sound better than buying a Marshall. The Vox has a lot more bass, clarity, range of reverb and much more responsive bass and treble frequencies. Maybe the original Marshall amps had more responsive EQ dials. Perhaps earlier Marshall amps were legitimately calibrated to aurally emphasize their selective frequencies. For 1k bucks, The Marshall DSL 20cr tube amp is nothing to write home about. Vox all the way, at half the price youll buy twice the amp
It's actually an American Special Strat. If my memory serves me right, it was the neck or neck+middle position I used on this one. I tend to agree on the Marshall winning, it's just a bit more full and hi-fi.
@@Ksumsar I would hope so, with the larger speaker, an ac15 or 30 would be a more accurate comparison against the dsl40 unless you ran both the ac and dsl to the same ext cab
@@jasondorsey7110 I know it's hard to compare.. if you're wondering, I returned the Marshall and kept the Vox... It's just got that special something..
@@Ksumsar I actually got rid of the ac10 I had a week ago, and used the proceeds towards a '66 gretsch 6151, I love the old valco-made amps more than anything
What smells worse Rose's or a fresh steaming dogpile? Marshall cleans excluding the jtm are just awful and AC tones are almost always good. I really dont know who actually buys marshall stuff when the amp makers inspired by Marshall make better amps than matshall hahd down, like friedman, victory, prs....etc.
I feel the Vox has more bottom. Thicker. Warmer. Is that a 10 W amp?

Both are of course great, but I like the Vox trebled sound better. No pun intended.
I don’t know why I just don’t like how vox amps sound clean. They sound heavenly with some crunch of course.

What do you mean the Marshall has no bass/presence? It literally has a resonance and presence knob with more bass on tap that anybody could wish for.
@DirtyMike702 Its refreshing to hear you say and believe that. I'm into it for a thousand bucks, pay the shipping and it's yours for 400
@@andrewstendahl36 no thanks, I don't want to buy an amp that was only used to play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and the intro to Smoke on the Water.

For me the Marshall sound more natural. Sound like Knopfler
Vox but with a Creamback the DSL40C would be equal or better
