Currently building my own 2D model and my goodness you're right. It's really hard work but I mainly went that route because I really like the anime aesthetics more to where I don't mind the lack of full-body movement
I'm using VRoid Studio for my starter model, and decide from there what I want to do. A friend of mine made a fairly basic pngtuber model I could use (which I asked about), so now all I feel I'm missing is taking a few months to use all three and then decide which I like best. Might go with 3D as it'll help with VRChat stuff, but that's pretty far in the future.
As someone who wants to get into making vtuber models, this answered some important preliminary questions I had. 4:48 Personally, I think animated pngs are closest to real 2d anime. Live 2d is a bit uncanny and limited compared to custom drawn frames of animation. All in all, great video! Thanks!
Thank you for always making such detailed videos. I'm still at the stage where I'm considering whether it's worth investing so much money and time into becoming a VTuber or not since. Ideally I'd like to try Live2D but your video has helped me realise that with my current skill set becoming a PNG VTuber may be more suitable. Keep up the good work!
I dunno if you'd want to or be able to, but would you be able to make a video about finding commissioners for models, what to look out for and the like? The number one thing I've struggled with is finding out where to look and who to trust, as well as trying to find what I'm looking for that's still within my price range. Great video, by the way.
Right now I getting Chibi 2D model. I really like the 2D look over the 3D look in most case. I also think you can add many animations and more expressive moments to 2D. yes you can add to 3D but it can make it look off as 3D can get more realist movements. It is not uncommon to see wings flapping or ear movements in 2D models that are little things that make the model feel alive. Even yes everything is around the face and upperbody mostly. Also in live 2D you can just add animation or even just pictures to change your many people put a controller or a banket, or there feet on the table yes they don't move normally but it creates and interesting contrast. Of course their is 3D benefits if your interested in dance content or just love VR chat or other VR games like beatsaber a 3D model might be a better choice. It both has to do with what you wanna look like and the content your looking to create.
I be honest as someone who done 3d modelling from day 1. I looked at the price of 3d vs 2d and I find 3d to be far cheaper. Like if you are spending 1k+ on 3d. Then you are buying a brand name. Not a model. Also big pro that Yume left out with 3d. You can import your 3d model to some games. Any game with modding. Note I said modding and not mod support. You can add your 3d model to it. So you can play Elder scrolls or Dragonage as your 3d model.

Funnily enough, most modern anime is made with 3d models that are drawn over in 2d.
true.
