A curiosity about the video, besides Roger being the blonde drag queen, initially the video would end with Freddie being taken by a helicopter from a mountain, but Freddie didn't like the idea of flying in the cold meters high, nor the idea of make the video even more expensive 😂. Freddie liked and was very inspired by gospel music, especially Aretha Franklin, it's no wonder he loved this song and wanted to do his version because he identified so much with it. If you want to smile a little, watch the making off of the recordings

I love that Roger is one of the ladies in drag in this video. This is a very old song that Freddie covered during his solo career. So strange to see Freddie completely clean shaven.

An incredible song, I love that pink suit, it was one of the most expensive pieces in the auction of Freddie's things... So cool to see Roger supporting his friend in this video, he obviously wouldn't miss the chance to rock Freddie again

Powerful so darn Powerful. Great song from the fifties. Was a big hit back then by the Platters. Freddie put his own spin on it 💥✨💫 ✨ I feel the older Freddie got the better his voice was. Miss him terribly😌

Great reaction! Freddie was the great pretender… so dynamic and extroverted on stage and very shy and introverted in person. I love his version of this song.. but then I love everything Freddie and Queen. And Roger in drag 💛💛

A stunning cover of the old Platters hit from the 50's. Freddie on top form as always and as for the three ladies singing back-up.....what can one say other than magnificent.

The "backing singer girls" were Freddie, Roger Taylor, and Freddie's good friend Peter Straker (a Jamaican-born British singer and actor with a very successful career of his own)
"The Great Pretender" is a cover --- the original was sung by The Platters in 1955.
I seriously suggest that you squeeze in a reaction to The Platters' original recording someday.

This song sumerizes Freddie's life so well, that he wanted to make a cover version. All the clips are based on and recreated of his "Mercury life", but Freddie always remained the shy boy, the caring, thoughtful, loving, funny guy under his Mercury coat.

lol I can see why you say that. But I feel the theatrics are also apart of his greatness. It made him unique and compelling 🚀💛

Did you notice the three "female" backup singers? They were Freddie, Roger Taylor, and Peter Straker (a friend of Freddie's).

Freddie had always wanted to do the cover of this song, originally by the The Platters in the 50’s. Here’s a “twilight zone” moment, The Platters’ record label was called Mercury Records. 😳✨🤵🏻‍♂️

Folks you need to stop thinking that YOU CAN ONLY have soul IF you are from the South. I speak 6 languages and in each of these 6 languages there is a special word for the feeling, exprerience and expression of the word called soul. This is done through poetry, song and various other ways of dramatization, the Greeks had it, the Persian had, the Romans had, the us in the modern world have ....REGARDLESS OF GEOGRPAHY.

I'm new to the reaction video scene. Better late than never, right? I saw Queen in 1978. St Louis MO, floor seats. The tickets were $7.50. I'm about 10 years younger than the band members so I got to grow up loving Queen. It's nice to watch someone like you watch the videos & the interviews. I feel like you watch from an intelligent perspective. There are tons of documentaries on the band with interviews with friends, journalists, people in the music business. Tubi is a free service and they have lots of Queen docs. I look forward to more of your videos

Love love love that Freddie did a cover of this old Platters song, this video concept is absolutely brilliant. His vocals outstanding as always. Freddie Mercury, Roger Taylor and Peter Straker had such a good time together filming their part as back up singers. Now you know why we all love Freddie Mercury!

As you work through Queen history, you could check out all the older videos represented in this one. Great songs, great videos! Queen never disappoints, versatile and way ahead of their time. Their songs are as fresh today as when they were recorded.

I love this version of the song that Freddie did. But then I love all Freddie and Queen music and all their solo stuff. Thanks for all the reactions! You really need to check out "In My Defence" by Freddie. The three backup singers are Freddie, Roger and Peter Straker (Freddie's good friend).

This is a cover, and there is a video of himself, Roger and friend Peter getting ready for the female backing vocals, as it's the three of them which you see in different outfits on either side of the stage
