- Since the videos have slowed down I've decided to make the biggest single massive improvement by just using left over materials we have lying around.
The upstairs hallway gets painted.
#DIY #mortgagefree #homerenovation
You can use a ladder with the stairs to make scaffolding. Fix boards to steps so they do not shift
I do! I do! Show us you Hoovering the entire house! Motivating. Anytime I want to indulge in self pity I could just flash back to you Hoovering the entire house. Great video! Thanks.
there has been a fair few requests to watch him hovering....perhaps an only fans channel for hovering fetish lovers is in order ;)
For the lose plaster you can inject some adhesive behind the plaster to fix it in place.
The white walls in the hallway will be a perfect art gallery.
so many walls needing so much work
I believe the skirting boards on old houses were bigger downstairs because that is the more formal part of the house where you would receive guests.
all fancy looking
The wall transformation is really wonderful!
looking so nice & clean
For the dents in your banister melt some ice cubes in the dents, the wood will swell back up and you can sand it smooth.
What a difference a coat of paint makes doesn’t even describe the outcome. Amazing
looking so much better
Excellent idea abt replacing the skirting boards & the spindles! 28 years ago, I spent months of my spare time stripping 6 layers of paint from 14" skirting boards in a 2.5 storey victorian house. I then repeated the process on the spindles, doors & architraves. Regret it now as I have chronic arthritis & I also didn't wear an adequate face mask. Paint everything white until you can replace those dangerous wooden bits.
When you get disheartened, remember how much value you are adding to this beautiful old house ❤
I've been renovating a 7000 sqft house for the last 5 years. The first thing I did was renovate ONE ROOM AT A TIME!! THis way the house is still livable and doesn't look worse. Do yourself a favor and try not to make a huge job out of it. Remember, you intend to live there for a long time so you have the time to move along at a slower pace. :)
It is a beautiful old home and your white really brightens it up cud’s to you
A lick of paint and what a difference! ❤ Great job Dear!
If anyone can, you can Dave! You got skills and staying power lad! 👍👍👍👍👍👍🎖️
It's amazing how much cleaner and bigger the space looks just with a lick of paint.
So glad to see a video pop up today. You’re doing great, even when cash is so tight. You’ve got your health, don’t have to travel anywhere near as much now you’ve moved in. Things will improve, in the meantime do as you can.Be safe and keep healthy. Have a happy holiday month, and remember to make memories, as all the other big stuff aren’t what you remember it’s the small stuff that you do remember always.
All the best to you and your family,Maureen.
Thanks Maureen. All the best to you to. Have a great holiday month. Dave.
Great video. I like the white paint in the hallways. It looks very clean and crisp. Things will always look different once you do the flooring and add all of your accessories and wall art. Great job!
We have so much wall art. We now have so much more wall space. I’m in no doubt it will all get eventually filled.
Wow! Fantastic job well done 👏 It looks great, nicer and so bright 🌞 ❤
Thank you for sharing a new video, the upstairs hallway is looking great!
It’s a vast improvement. Thanks Bruce.
It'll be interesting to see you sort the skylight. I'd like to see what it looks like from above.
Wow! What a difference. Looks great. Thank you for sharing.❤
Great job!! You have an amazing drive and the outcome is so
Impressive. Ps. I’d watch a man Hoover any day of the week…and a whole house! I wouldn’t miss it.
😂 thanks
Hello from Prince Edward Island in Canada! i am loving your videos. the house is gorgeous!! Yep nothing like a coat of paint I'll be doing the same real soon!
Thank you. Glad you like them. Happy painting. Dave
It's hard doing up a house with no money - been there! The wood on the skirting etc will be better quality than any wood you can get now. Always worth renovating than buying new (and wood is really expensive now).
I thought it would be cheaper to strip the paint off. It’s actually more expensive and takes so much more time also. I will always keep what I can
Thank you for sharing.❤
That looks sooooo much better
I saw a comment that advised trying adhesive to secure the plaster back to the lathe.
All that painting made such a huge improvement! Thanks for sharing.
Your doing a great job. Hopefully you'll get more subscribers.
Thanks. I must be doing something right. Gained plenty recently. Thanks for the continued support.
Hi Dave nice to see you again mortgage V no mortgage is a no-brainer and each step forward no matter how little will give enormous satisfaction and always remember Rome wasn't built in a day.
totaly agree. BUT at first he will be very skint / have caused debt. Each month though he will be better off similar to earning an additional £1000 per month gross
Dream big! Keeping these houses’ original features is important.
Do what you can yo match your budget to get it livable and the rest will come later. It’s a lovely property.
I feel your pain. My house whilst not as old and not as “needy” has its quirks. I’m just working with them. And I love that skylight! Is that the right word? I nearly bought a house with one 3 times the size but that place was waaaay too much for a novice like me 😂
You can have the spindles dipped as with doors or shutters...back to the bare wood :)
I think I will end up doing this. Done a tester on one spindle and the outcome is very poor. Might have to invest in a dip.
Nice job, keep it up. A lot of work now but very rewarding in the end when you see it get transformed.
Would love to have seen your wife's reaction to the paint- what a difference! You're right- slow and steady progress. One channel I watched broke every task into 15 min segments and committed to spend at least 15 min a day. Even when she felt unmotivated, she did the 15 min and often found once started, she gained momentum and did more.
I watch the $1 house and she stuck her loose plaster back with some adhesive might be worth a try
The old house is looking great. You've done an amazing job! I enjoy your channel and music selection :)
We were lucky as we come from a family of plasters…we knocked it all back, then we put the pug up, smoothed and family came in and did all the plastering. 👍
Use your wheelie bin fill with hot water 12 bags of soda crystals submerge your wood work i used this on my house even the hand rails draped a towel over them a super saver tip lol hope it helps you. May take a few days but can save ypu £s
Well done so far 😊
If you weren't living in it, I'd say don't bother, but it helps the way you feel when you live in during the process.
Such a bummer that the channels for wiring were done so poorly. Especially since you waited so long to get that work done 🙈
But the upstairs hallway looks stellar! So smart to take on time-consuming projects now when cash is low.
And congrats on getting monetized 🎉🎉🎉
It does look so much better. Very pleased with it. Thanks for your continued support.
Cracking job on the paint prep and painting
😂
Love watching your videos !! 65 f in Manchester 🇬🇧
Please consider watching all the series as only then can you appreciate the hell hole this house was. ps leaving lots of comments should help pump the algorithm :)
In my house they drilled holes in the bottom and top plates to feed wires through. You still end up with damaged plaster but maybe not as bad. I’m sure the patches won’t be too bad. You did a nice job avoiding the crown moldings. Hang in there. The paint is looking great.
Thanks. Yeah. Lots of patching up to do in the cornice down stairs from years gone by. Lick of paint has definitely made a vast improvement.
My brother set up a little power contraption on the dining table where he wired up the hall & landing switches to so he could test out how he thought it worked. Hopefully, when he finishes plastering all the holes he's made tomorrow, it'll work in real life. I now have tons of mist coating to do. At least most of my walls are stud so little chasing, but it's important to know where the wires are going for hanging paintings etc - not like my house where they shoved them where ever like down the side of the door so changing architrave could be lethal. House is looking good. It's always amazing what a difference a coat of paint makes. Well done on the subscribers.
A lick of white paint makes a big difference and look clean fantastic job 👍
That’s not a bad idea. Actually physically testing it out to get your head around it is a great idea. Should have done that myself.
With the wiring any chasing should only be vertical or horizontal from any switch or plug. A good rule of thumb when coming to putting up pictures. Luckily for me I know where everything is now.
Great job!! You have an amazing drive and the outcome is so
Impressive.
Thank you 🙏
Nice work.
hard graft.
Its a stairwell & hall. Just remind urself its going to get scuffed & gouged from moving furniture. It will never STAY perfect. Its an area of "good enough, that will do"😊
Perfect! So much better! Looks so bright and cheerful now! Well Done! 👍👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏🎖️
Glad to have fully caught up 😊 can’t wait to see what you do next 😊
8.31k to 8.34k then 8.37k now increased to 8.39k subscribers as at 28/1/2025 3:04pm another 20 more subscribers just whilst we were watching the last video !!! Need to continue to feed the algorithm :)
I would have watched you hoovering your whole house 😅
😂
Primer is a Painters Best Friend. ;0)
You are AWESOME !!!
I am still working my way through your videos! Future self laughed knowing what you are going to do with the spindles. So glad you are keeping the window in the ceiling I like your idea about making it a light box. See you next time!
Same. I just discovered his channel as well and it started with the staircase as well. LOL!!!
2 months ago he had less than 1000 subscribers as at 8:30pm 1/2/2025 this has grown to 13.3k !!! Like you we were just brought to his vids by the algorithm. Please consider watching all the series as only then can you appreciate the hell hole this house was. ps leaving lots of comments should help pump the algorithm :)
Spindles can be dipped to remove the paint.
Any chance you can put up a £thanks button on your channel. I'm keen to help you carry on making these videos xxx
Could you use a heat gun on the bannisters to get the paint off?
Posting for the algorithm. Kudos to tackle such a large Reno project. Now your family has a nice comfy mortgage free home!
only good to pile on another one
or two
Shame you’ve just missed this years, but the painting & decorating she at the Ricoh arena is amazing, just apply for tickets if you’re self employed\ trade, lots of free samples and brewers have a goodie bag with lots of freebies ( including paint!) also Tikkurila paint are amazing can colour match to f&b and a lot cheaper
Please don't cover the sky light :0
I wouldn’t dare. One of my favourite features.
Much better back ground music
👍
You can get sticky back, pretend stained glass on a roll to make the skylight look better. Please don't cover it up.
Do you have lead encapsulating paint where you are? That may be an option to replacing the staircase.
I think so. Only issue is there are so many layers of paint. Most seem to be emulsion in all weird colours. If I can get them off and get the woodwork flat again. Maybe I could try that.
Can do attitude
As a north American I don't understand why the wiring is chiseled in to the wall And not run inside.
hi, because those walls were solid plaster on solid brick, not hollow walls. UK house construction is a lot different to American timber frame. Our plastering is also typically full skim over all the wall instead of taped seams then mud only over the seam.
The ones in the hallway are a prime bad example. The sparky I sacked had his apprentice do these and completely ruined these walls. All the plaster needs stripping now.
now 8.6k at 28/1/2025 5:47pm more subscribers !!!
We dont know the guy we just have realy enjoyed these videos & can realy feel his pain when he has been royally messed around by everyone from to estate agents, vendors, the vendor's tenants (not his own), scaffolders, electricians, the list goes on. We have watched through them all, really enjoyed them & noticed the improving quality of the videos. Thumbs up on all videos, made several comments & then went through every available comment & thumbed up every single comment !!! We also recorded the subscriber numbers against the time & date so have a search for our comments to see the numbers increasing. I just wish i had done this earlier as it would have been good to note the channel growth. Plenty of others have been doing similar so it all helps :) 11.3K subscribers as at 7:18pm 30/1/2025 keep on pumping that algorithm. a little money from youtube could help pay for his "wish list" of those oh so desirable 3rd set of hinges in the centres of his doors ;) Best wishes Andy & Lisa xxx
I dont think those spindles are original. They seem too lightweight.
I’ve just discovered your channel and it is quite enjoyable but I’ve watched 3 episodes so far and one thing I’ve noticed is the number of times you mention that you have no money. I’m beginning to wonder if you have an alternative reason for doing so?
Glad you enjoy the videos. Just trying to keep it real. Not in a position I thought I would be in when I started this journey. It’s on my mind, all of the time, at the moment.
If you enjoyed his videos, then I don't understand your comment. Of course he keeps mentioning he has no money, because he doesn't have any money. Do you think people make youtube videos purely for your entertainment? Do you work for free? There will be hours & hours of time spent making these videos why shouldn't he be paid for it.
He's trying to make a home for his family any way he knows how & earning some money from youtube Is one way. He's not going to be a millionaire any time soon if that makes you feel better? You could have just stopped typing after the nice things you said instead of accusing him of nefarious behaviour.
Hoe about bead board instead of paneling?
You don't have even vaguely enough time to get this project done.
I'm sorry for ya, but there's just no way.
As a pessimist myself I’ll be pleasantly surprised when it is done.
@@FromLeedsToWest as a realist he has already proved so many wrong. yes there is a lot left to do but it looks like he has already completed the majority of the more nasty work. A cupple of quid from youtube would certainly help justify the additional hard work he has put in for our entertainment / education.
Why not start a “Go Fund Me” page? I am certain many would help as you are so genuine a lad! Just do it!
