Ep18: Im Broke. But We Are Almost Ready To Move In / A Renovation Vlog

- So this week I wanted to get the bathroom usable ready for when we move in. That's if the boiler gets fixed.
Some tiling, fitting doorhandles and just a good sort through boxes.
#home #restoration #diy #mortgagefree
We've done something similar to get free of mortgage pergatory. We had so little money that we couldn't afford to hire machine to scrub carpet glue from quarry tiles. We even had to wait to spend a tenner on tile polish. But after two summers of scrubbing we have a beautiful floor. We still have little money but are the richest we've ever been. Our freedom from mortgage slavery is worth everything. Even living in a project for a few years brings a peaceful satisfaction and tranquility. Good luck to you and family.
Honey… no house is EVER finished totally.
😂
You're not broke, you're mortgage free. The borrower is slave to the lender. Congratulations.
With a little one in the house I’d always recommend disabling the bathroom lock and putting a small bolt at the top of the door. That way they can’t reach to lock themselves in.
Seriously, is there anything you can’t do. Bathroom is lovely, good job ❤
Yes, yes. Definitely need a video on the houses history 😂
Have been binge watching, and loving the videos. You should be so proud of yourself you are doing an amazing job. Would love to know what was going on with the previous owners😜
Calmly…”The boiler’s been fixed”… meanwhile, I am turning cartwheels of joy in my living room thousands of miles away. Love your channel.
"how to financially cripple yourself" in the long run this house being mortgage free will change your life.
mortgage free is fantastic. Keep reminding yourself of that until you get out of the "broke", aka cash poor, phase.
Great little shelf btw!
Kudos to you! Parenting AND renovating! That’s a tough gig. I admire all your hard work! 😊
8.29k now increased to 8.31k subscribers as at 28/1/2025 1:54pm 20 more since watching last video !!! Feed the algorithm :)
Posting for the algorithm. You might be broke but look how far you have come 👍!
Absolutely top job on the bathroom. It's looking great. Can't wait to see it when it gets finished👍
You have evey right to whinge and moan !!!!! Your doing an amazing jo :) love the vids :) preston guy here so know the area well
Thanks. Just trying to keep it real. See so many of these renovation vlogs on TH-cam and everyone’s so happy. Not only that. They talk about the work but barely do any of it. Glad you like them. I enjoy making them so means a lot. Thanks.
Love the yellow chair with the green
You have come such a long, long way! The house is looking great!
I am new to the channel and am loving it. Your love for your daughter is adorable. She's worth all the hard work.
Legs definitely! Is it Walnut? It looks like Walnut. It is lovely. These were very popular all the “Posh” people had them for their drinks cabinet. My auntie had one in the “Best room” .
Looked at legs and it was very expensive for some nice ones. So it’s on the back burner for now.
@ you may find some on one of the selling sites later. 👍👍👍👍😃
I dissagree, the cut on the bottom of the unit suggests that was supposed to be the bottom on the floor.
Nope,this once sat on a cabinet.😊
I never knew about masking tape for silicon. I’m definitely going to try that, thanks 🙏 🏴
I like the pop off yellow in living room and sofas work .
Dave you could, when time & money allow, tile the bath surround with the same tiles you have on the wall. Just a suggestion ❤
It is very hard work now, but to be mortgage free is so worth it!
Man you are smashing it, the content just get's better and better the tutorials are super useful!
You are doing brilliant! Keep going.
Thank you, I will
I love how the yellow chair pops!
I've been flip flopping between buying land (I'm in Canada) and building an off grid dream cottage, and moving to the prairies to buy the centenarian house of my dreams, and renovate. Vids like yours are leaning me towards the latter. Trick is to get over my fear of empty spaces (kenophobia), and to find a house that hasn't already been made over. I lived in Blackpool once! Worked at Pontins for a few months.
I'd put those two couches facing each other flanking the fire place...get an area rug and a coffee table and they'd look perfect in the front room...
I understand perfectly! We were on the cheeks of our Asp so to say. We lived in one room with our first baby. We went scavenging what others threw out we made good mended, renovated and used it all. I am great at being economic where food is concerned. Living on a shoestring is a Challenge, bartering too is a must! 😁👍👍👍👍. Over 48 years and still living in it. Raised eight children in her. Now she is over four floors and extended. The old house grew as more children came along. It will stay within the family as stated in our will. 😃👍👍💜💜💜
Worth it to be mortgage free and its going to be a much nicer house than your last one when it's finished. And yes the cocktail cabinet would have had Queen Anne legs.
Your debt free, do the work when you can afford it. Well done on your journey so far.
That odd piece of furniture needs more than legs. It needs something substantial beneath it to be more proportionally pleasing to the eye. Leave it for last and the perfect spot may scream out to you. Cudos to you for being able to work with a toddler. Give her some of your smallest non-pointy tools to play with, clean of course, and she will be happy doing what Daddy is doing.
Going with the ball feet I mentioned before, I was thinking four across the front, one on each corner and then at peaks on each side of front doors. Then I think three across back for stability. One on each back corner and one in middle. So a total of 7 over all. Wood balls of course to match stain on cabinet.
I think some legs. So the writing desk top is the correct height.
Oh my goodness! Your bathroom is beautiful! I am going to use masking tape from now on when I caulk areas! Great tip! Your green couches are so pretty! The yellow chairs are nice, too! If you can’t find covers for them, nice green and yellow floral pillows will look great on the couch and chairs with a couple throw blankets over them, will tie them together and look great! It’s my hope for you and your family that your TH-cam channel grows and provides adequate income for your family. All the best from Michigan in the USA!
I think we got a cover ordered. Watch this space 😀. Glad you enjoy the channel. Best wishes from Blackpool. UK
You’ve accomplished so much. Plus, unpacking receiving refrigerators and now you have hot water wonderful. Tiled bath grouting, plumbing, putting flooring. Thank you for sharing.❤
I like those teal couches and popping yellow chairs! Nice style.
Just found your channel. Really like your style. We had doors in a very old that were just "off" with the panel heights. Turned the slab upside down and refitted hinges and it looked cool. It was just a quick fix until the door was widened and new door installed
For the algorithm 😊
ohh yes feed the algorithm :)
Consider stuffing insulation around the tub before you seal up the enclosure. Water will stay hot longer.
Your bathroom is lovely. You have done a spectacular job.
I love the colour of your sofas. I had a living room set that colour once, beautiful teal turquoise floral pattern, exc. cond., but I had to sell it when I moved out of my basement suite into my RV, I stored it at first, but then storage rates went up so I needed to downsize to a smaller storage unit.
Yellow chair looks great in that room.
For LR wall cabinets put doors on bottom for storage and open shelves for display on top. You could almost make them in sections up to the molding
I understand the meaning of debt free, we are debt free here in America. We had a 2 bed 1 bath home, with 2 children opposite sexes we needed to separate them. Built on all bedrooms up with 1 bath and a den up there but downstairs has to be completed kitchen has to be extended, bathroom moved down electric needs completed drywall finished, but we have no mortgage right now able to stash money in the bank until we are ready
your still working your just working on your own 🏡 home l know it doesn't pay the bills but you can't do both give yourself credit for all you have done wow it looks great once you move in thing's will slow down and you will have one place to look after try to enjoy how far you have come
Doing a brilliant job with what you have to work with .
You have done amazing, i once moved in a house and sat on deck chairs for months 😅
Turn off unnecessary lights. Big house means bigger electricity bills 😢
Note too is to silicone around your loo where it meets tbe vinyl flooring, and anywhere else where water could ingress. Love from Scotland
Looks like a floor standing drinks cabnet my grandparents had
You doing great
We’re on a tight budget, and so have been collecting free pine wardrobes on fb marketplace. These are being used for our media wall, and the tongue and groove backs will be used for our hallway half panelling 😊
I really admire what you’re doing, good luck with it, you’re going to have a beautiful home
Yes legs for the cabinet, well done so far 😊 looking forward to the next vlog😊
defo needs legs /feet to keep the cabinet in apropriate style
Love the door handles… very unique!
EAST TEXAS DIY bathroom looking good
Gorgeous house ❤the all the original features
I agree about legs. I'm thinking the kind that match looking like round balls, just short to the flood.
I don't think the cabinet needs legs, but I hope you can find glass for it!
Nice space between bathroom sink and tub for a small storage cabinet. Could use it for toilet paper or shampoo.
I like it straight on floor😊
Can’t understand why you block in rubbish under the bath etc. Plus handles look smarter than door knobs on internal doors and are easier on the hands to use. You are making a great difference to the house. It will be a nice home to enjoy when you finish it, and you will be free of worry with no mortgage. Good job, wishing you well.
I am enjoying your vlog so much. I love your color choices, my favorite color is black and I love dark colors for decorating. It is so wonderful to see you try to keep the old details. You have beautiful crown molding and skirting boards in the house. That fireplace is a treasure. Who would paper over those tiles?? Bravo to you and your wife, and oh, the on site manager.
I recall another youtuber using a fabric paint to reshade a piece of furniture. Seems hard to believe but maybe worth looking into before reupholstering.
Your video editing, sound & overall production is continuing to develop. Clear improvements from your first videos. well done.
Great work. Glad you got the boiler fixed xx
Straight legs against the wall,Queen Anne style legs at the front, about 6" in length.
Good to go I think onwards and upwards❤
love love love the yellow chair ❤
loved the door handle tutorial, nice & clear.
What you've done so far looks great. Maybe find some bun feet to put on the cabinet and keep it low to the ground. I think if you put taller legs on it, it will look off balance.
Chin up Dave. You're doing great. But I can't wait till you paint the bannister and spindles. What were they thinking?!!!
Thankyou. I know. Who in their right mind. You might be waiting a while. Think hallway will be last after Kitchen, Master bedroom, Spare room and study.
I think i agree with you. Definitely legs.
Amazing stuff but a little surprised you didn't clean out all that stuff from under the bath before fitting the temp panel, including a loo roll 😂😂🙄🙄
Is that bathroom door handle upside down ? I believe it is. Lock on top, nob on bottom? I don't know it does look strang .
The bathroom looks great, Dave. I actually like the black backer board under the tub.
I think that piece of furniture your wife picked up is a bar cabinet? Seems like it's meant to have a tray of booze on top, so it's probably at the height it should be?
Yay for hot water!!
Pop your PayPal email somewhere, btw.
COFFEE😊
Amazing!!!
❤
Looks so good
Yes the cabinet needs legs.
We dont know the guy we just have realy enjoyed these videos & can realy feel his pain when he has been royally messed around by everyone from to estate agents, vendors, the vendor's tenants (not his own), scaffolders, electricians, the list goes on. We have watched through them all, really enjoyed them & noticed the improving quality of the videos. Thumbs up on all videos, made several comments & then went through every available comment & thumbed up every single comment !!! We also recorded the subscriber numbers against the time & date so have a search for our comments to see the numbers increasing. I just wish i had done this earlier as it would have been good to note the channel growth. Plenty of others have been doing similar so it all helps :) 11.3K subscribers as at 7:18pm 30/1/2025 keep on pumping that algorithm. a little money from youtube could help pay for his "wish list" of those oh so desirable 3rd set of hinges in the centres of his doors ;) Best wishes Andy & Lisa xxx
yes legs
Great to see your blog today. Can you try and keep still when you're talking You're making me dizzy 😅
I shall do my best. Thanks for your input.
Looking good. I'm surprised you haven't more subscribers. Maybe more hashtags. Check out a few other renovation channels for them like Nicky & Harri, Milly & Louis etc Would be nice to earn some money from all the hard work.
It does seem to be a lot slower growth than I was expecting. Thanks for the info. I shall take a look.
Did you possibly fit the doors upside down?
Looks good. But How did you get so much garbage under the tub ? Lmao
Much better vlog as less whinging and lots of jobs done 😂Your strengths are a great sense of humour and you explain things clearly ,you are articulate and can turn your hand to a variety of tasks.if you stop twirling round and round at the beginning of videos and just talk to the camera in one position then move slower to the jobs you’ve done and stop moaning so much at the start I think you would increase your viewership(I’ve noticed the renovation vlogs that get more viewers tend to be where they are more positive )I’m not having a go at you, just trying to help, you deserve a pat on the back for getting so much done alone.😊
All solid and sound input. I will do better. ( the ones that are all positive I can truly say are lies) but I am slowly learning what people want to see. I did this just so my mum could watch. Turns out people do enjoy watching. It’s all a learning process. I guess most people that do it ,and do it well ,already have some sort of media knowledge. Like everything I just throw myself in the deep end and hope for the best 😂. I’m not so good with computers or tech but we all gotta start somewhere. Thanks for watching.
I’ve watched many renovators and lots of them start off not knowing much about how to be a TH-cam presenter. They improve rapidly as a general rule and so are you. You are a natural at speaking to your audience and that is half the battle. Can’t wait to see this channel go from strength to strength once you are moved in.👍
Subscribed and enjoying your videos and renovation! A lot of renovators here will make a wish list so their viewers can help them with what they need. That might help with the budget and give you some encouragement as well! You're doing your best and working hard for your family (a lot of extra work with that little cutie running around!!)! Love your channel and looking forward to the renovation!! It's going to be great! Yay🎉 This gives me something positive to cheer about while trying to muck through with our idiot "dear leader" felon in chief!! So thanks for the distraction for your US viewers!! Take care Dave and wishing you all good things!!!!😊
You are AWESOME!!!
I think it would do better to turn camera around towards room more often and keep talking.
I so respect not showing the little one.
Just build a base fo the curio cabinet and paint it black.
I actually really like this idea. I will check with the boss and see what she says.
I thought the house,in the past was for delinquent teens?
That was the estate agents way of describing its past. But that was many years ago. The recent history I found out from the neighbours after purchase. I don’t think I can actually go into detail on TH-cam about it, as it breaches TH-cams terms. Just imagine the worst people you could live next door to. That’s basically who used to live here.
Why don't you finish one room at a time instead of every where being in such a mess
