    A jumper wire with mini-alligator clips on each end is a ‘tool’ I have used since 1972. Low voltage and searching for ground with a DVM is a combo that has served me well.

    A tremendous help. Your "quick diagnosis check" tip enabled me to get my repair parts shipped to me in 2 days. I was able to place the order early in the day and not have to wrestle the gas tank out of the jeep and then try to decide if the gauge was bad. Thank you very much for this video, it saved my day! (Wow, don't we wish we had been access You Tube in the old days. Old mechanic Bob would not have told us.)

    Awesome video. I know this question does not pertain to this video, but you seem to show the best DIY for Jeeps. I wish you would do a video on how to completely R&R both the side windows with weather-strips and the rear lift window with weather-strip. I am planning on repainting my 1991 Jeep YJ hardtop and want it to look OEM. Thanks a bunch for all your great videos.

    I did the jumper test at the plug, gauge moved from empty to full. What are my chances of having a bad ground connection? Would the pump still work with a bad ground? It runs fine but want my gauge back.

      It could be Tank float is hung up on the tank float cradle inside the tank. The plastic cradle warps over time and restricts the float lever movement so it gets stuck at half tank or empty Also I have a 2001 tj my friends/famliy freak out when the gas light is on. my tank is usually half filled most of the time. sometimes I mess with them and say oh no we could run outta gas in the middle of nowhere. I don't have any cash for gas do you?
      Sometimes I say we will be fine I have half a tank they look at me like I'm crazy I say any of the following in any combination. relax live dangerous. 🤣 don't be Ina such a hurry. have no fear. Face your fear.if we get stuck I have roadside service.i use to freak out on the trail my tank would be at half then blamo on E I'd and be like wtf?
      🤣 I never worry about it now. if you are trail riding or off roading you should bring at least a five gallon spare tank though fill it before your trip then rotate it in between fill ups if you don't use it on your trip off raoding so you have fresh fuel it's good to have extra fuel on hand to help someone stranded on or off road especially the newbs.

    Love the video. My fuel gauge is always showing full. The fuel sending checked out ok. I attempted to jump the two pins in the connector as in your video, but the fuel gauge won’t move. The gauge itself checked out ok in the dash (I can jumper the gauge to ground) and it moves. I must have a problem in the wiring between the dash and the fuel tank. Where is the body harness connector “left of the steering column” / “above the park break release lever” located? I believe I have an open fuel level sensor wire in the harness somewhere. The fuel pump runs (I have power and ground) Any guidance is appreciated.

    My buddys 1995 wrangler almost melted thru the gas tank because the plate holding the tank rotted in half. The plastic tank fell onto the exhaust and melted a hole thru it. He noticed a drip in his driveway and then seen the damage. Had he went for another ride without noticing ,,he may be dead now.
    I have same jeep as his. 1995 YJ wrangler. I replaced my sending unit and pump a year ago and now when my tank is full it reads 3/4 full. I think I put a 20 gallon gauge into a 15 gallon tank. And we are trying to figure out what tank he has now so he dont do the same thing.

    • @Poweraddicts
      @Poweraddicts  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Its that little internal plastic bowl/basket thing. Over the years it warps causing the fuel float hangs on it not allowing the float to go to "Empty" position. Therefore making the gauge read 1/4 tank when it fact it is empty. Snatch that bowl out and your good!

  • @xersys

    I dislike body lifts on jeep because they're already top heavy. A body lift makes them very prone to rolling over.

    • @Poweraddicts
      @Poweraddicts  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The body is the least of your weight. Most of your "high centered" weight is frame and engine. Having a body lift doesn't really make them top-heavy. Suspension lift or SOA makes the rigs top-heavy because you are picking up frame, engine, and body. The main drawback to 3" BLs is the stress it puts on the body mounting points and generally looks bad with that massive gap. Good to see ya hanging out on the channel!! Have a great day!!

      The float could be hung up in or on the float cradle in the tank you could just cut away the section the float gets hung up on the cradle or rip the cradle out completely the cradle warps over time or get a new tank and sender the cradles are junk plastic. sometimes they break in the tank causing a misalignment and the float gets hung up on the cradle if the tank is trashed I'd get an new aluminum or stainless tank with larger fuel capacity or a tank and sender out of newer jeep just my 2 cents

    Hey power addicts, have a question for ya!? I actually put a new aftermarket fuel gauge in and when I turn my jeep on it goes way past the full position to the 30 position (thinking as if it were a clock) and got stuck there. After disconnecting the harness wire from the gas tank, I sprayed some electronic cleaner and lubed it up and now it goes from the 30 position to about the 25 position. Do you think this is an electric issue or an actually fuel gauge issue? My stock fuel gauge which ofc I don't have anymore, would either be stuck on full or wander around like a lost child in a mall. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

    • @Poweraddicts
      @Poweraddicts  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its an electrical issue of some form .. .meaning .... its either a wire shorting issue or the wrong resistance. Your sending unit must match the Ohm (resistance range) of your gauge. If the resistance range doesn't match the gauge will not read correctly.
