    Hi - I'm adding a fuel pump kill switch to my Jeep, and thank you for your excellent explanation of the pins on the relay. Now I know how to attach the switch. Your teacher ethos really helped me. THANKS!!

      Why would you insert your kill switch over the fuel pump relay instead of the fuel pump fuse ?

    I had to come back to say THANK YOU for this video. 2005 TJ Unlimited and this worked like a charm. No Schrader valve so I had to buy some tubing and a clamp and just stick it on the fuel line where it attached to the rail. Also my relay pin layout is different but 30 and 87 jumped did the trick. AWESOME

    If the check valve in the pump is bad or worn; it will release the pressure back into the tank.

    • @Poweraddicts
      @Poweraddicts  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, that is true. I installed a new Bosch pump and it still didnt hold pressure. So, I just dont worry about it. Its ran fine for years like that.

    First off...thank you sir for posting! Pulled motor and had complete rebuild by very reputable shop. Purr's like a kitten, but yj got harder and harder to start[More cranking}. Once running its fine. Did just what you said in video and gas is a pumping! So not a bad fuel pump.....But jeep wont start without MAJOR cranking.... any suggestions would be appreciate. Thank u

    I just stumbled across your videos while trying to figure out a no start issue on my 1994 YJ with a 2.5. I’ve found a couple of your videos to be very helpful and detailed with how to check each component of the starting circuit. Wondering if I could send you a message and get some advice

    Question for you- I removed the schrader valve from the fuel rail and attached a hose to the port. I pulled the fuel pump relay and inserted the jumper wire. Fuel immediately began flowing but soon after slowed to a trickle. The fuel gauge shows 1/8 of a tank of gas so I’m sure there’s still fuel in the tank. Would this indicate a bad fuel pump or some other issue? Side note: this Jeep 4.0 sat for 4 years before I got it. Thanks for any help!

    Thanks for the great video. I recently purchased a 92 YJ 2.5L for $300 that had been sitting for some years because some bozo tried to steal it and broke the barrel lock. I repaired that and have begun trying to bring this old rig back to life. I replaced plugs, wires, cap & rotor etc. I also siphoned a bunch of old bad gas out of the tank but would like to do this to get it really empty. I set this up using your instructions and it worked great for about 15 seconds before the fuel pump quit pumping. I'm still getting power at the 30 pin, but no action at the pump. Any idea what I am doing wrong? maybe the fuel pump is flaking out? I'd love your insight before I drop the tank and swap a pump for no good reason. The sender does not appear to be working so maybe the pump/sender unit is kaput?? Thank for any guidance.

    Is there anyway to check the fuel pump to see if it's working after it's taking out? I'm tying to go down the list of things of why I'm not getting gas. I've already tried everything in this vid and I'm not getting gas nowhere in the front. I don't know if the fuel line is clogged up, or the pump needs replacing. Those are my next two things I need to check.

    I have a dumb question. Why not just turn the key until you hear the fuel pump run then turn it to off when done?

    • @Poweraddicts
      @Poweraddicts  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Typically when you first turn the key on the fuel pump "primes" the lines up to pressure (about
      1 or 2 seconds) then shuts off. So you dont just turn the key on and let it pump. You have to turn the key on and off repeatedly. When the engine starts the Cam Position Sensor tells the PCM (Jeep Computer) that we have spark, now tell the fuel pump to run all the time to keep the engine running.

    • @SW-Video
      @SW-Video 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Poweraddicts : That makes sense on every vehicle I own except my 87 YJ. It's carbed so no CPS but also has an electric fuel pump (swapped in a 4.0L) so when I turn the key on the pump just sits there running. Thanks for the explanation. I didn't know the CPS did that too.

    Is there a way to test the ignition switch ... ( not the keyed tumbler ) but the electrical switch...my problem is the engine will crank over no spark with ...I actually used the starter to power the Jeep over to its parking place .. I'm being told it's the switch...I have not seen a You Tube on replacing switch on a yj..

    Thanks, any trick to empty a gas tank with a mechanical fuel pump?

    • @josephlebrun9077
      @josephlebrun9077 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ron Jones unkook a fuel line and hold it under the tank

    • @Poweraddicts
      @Poweraddicts  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As Joseph stated, in some cases you can simply unhook a fuel line and let it drain. However that doesn't always work. I keep an unused Ford truck external electric fuel pump around for those special occasions. I simply unhook the fuel line from the carb or mechanical fuel pump. Then Ford fuel pump on to the line. Hook the fuel pump to a battery and let the pump do the work. You know that would make a good how to video. I'll put that on my to do list for ya.

    Question? If you need to empty you fuel tank would running the fuel pump for that long of time burn up the fuel pump? And like always thanks for a great informational video.

    • @Poweraddicts
      @Poweraddicts  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You are welcome, glad you enjoy the vids. Hope they help!! As for running the pump, just don't do it repeatedly and it will not be a big deal. I'd just run the pump until I got it down to about a 1/8 of a tank or so. That would make it light enough to drop much more easily.

      IMO, this may be the same or even less stressful on the fuel pump than normal use. It seems to me that dispensing into open container may provide less resistance than normal use, meaning fuel flow increases. The flow of fuel through the fuel pump is what cools the motor and prevents it from overheating. I believe when motor is on, the fuel pump is always on to maintain pressure. Generally starting / stopping electric motors is harder on them than constant on assuming they are properly cooled. Just watch the flow at the end, as soon as flow reduces due to sucking air, stop.

    Where is my fuel pressure going . background , 1991 jeep 4.0 when running 30 to 35 PSI on a fuel pressure gauge checked at the fuel rail. immediately after shutting off engine holds 30 PSI for 30 minutes then the pressure starts to drop , drops to zero within a hour. end result the jeep only starts 50 percent of the time. however i can spray starting fluid into the throttle body and jeep starts. got spark . runs good once started, not loading up , not hard to start 50% of the time, not blowing black smoke . not missing or sputtering. don't see or smell fuel around the injectors , no fuel at pressure regulator . dropped tank installed new fuel pump , installed new after market fuel injectors , new fuel regulator , new spark plug wires , new rotor new spark plugs , new distributor cap ,no leakage at full rail at fuel line connection. what and where else should i check ??
    Help needed

    • @Poweraddicts
      @Poweraddicts  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Either it loosing pressure past the check valve in the pump or you have a leaky injector/s. Leaky injector meaning that the fuel is leaking past the pintle (where the injector sprays fuel in the engine) when the engine is turned. My91 has never maintained the fuel pressure after shutting off the engine. It actually goes to 0 faster than yours. It did it with the old pump and the new pump. It always starts within a couple of engine turn so I don't worry about it.
