David Rosenberg: Is US Economic Strength Here to Stay? (w/Ed Harrison)

  • At a time when the mainstream narrative revolves around the risk of an overheating US economy and consumer price inflation, David Rosenberg, president and chief economist & strategist of Rosenberg Research & Associates Inc., is the ultimate contrarian voice. In this interview with Real Vision’s Ed Harrison, Rosenberg acknowledges the strength of the US economy and is willing to switch tack if the data warrant it later this year. However, he expects, contrary to most, that the economy’s vigor will fade as government stimulus does and that the post-financial crisis precautionary savings rates to go even higher in this cycle, resulting in less growth and less inflation than is priced into US equities. Rosenberg remains bullish on bonds and on Asian equities, particularly in China. Believing that alpha is king now, he thinks we have entered a stock picker’s world where riding an uptrend through passive investing or in ETFs will not work. Filmed on April 27, 2021. If you want to keep up with Rosenberg's research, you can start a free 30-day trial here: bit.ly/3pQ4nyB.

    this guys super confident in a fed that has been historically terrible at anticipating market trends. furthermore, why is the fed discussed so much? the only tool they have is interest rates. which they said were on “autopilot” until they weren’t.

    Hey Ed/ David You don't think the FED is not in there buying the long end? Take a look at the TNX daily chart..Every time there is a big green candle higher the next candle is always a big red one like something comes in and whacks it back down again and again..That chart is neurotic and have never seen a chart like it..Looks to me like the Fed has their finger on the trigger buying those longer dated bonds..

    What about inflation not driven by supply and demand,but the fact that Fed is printing money and government is spending like crazy which is destroying the purchasing power of currency..value of dollar is historicaly highly correlated with government deficit

    does the savings rate always go up as society ages? When the big cohort (Boomers) are nearing retirement they save more. What about when they are in retirement and are spending down their assets (negative savings)?

    • @koltoncrane3099
      @koltoncrane3099 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ya a lot of people don’t talk about that. Tons of retirees will spend large amounts on health care. Some may save more but non working people will still have to spend on necessary things.

      Why you think schiff only speak in general term and never uses charts or facts …?
      To always have a way out to push his libertarian/anti government / pro gold standard selling agenda .

    If David were looting stores and smashing windows in BLM riots, I would think he looks like a monster who belongs to the jungle, but I love his manners and knowledge and wisdom and think he is adorable. You see I am not in the slightest way a racist. I think most people are like me, not racists. By the way, I am not white, neither black.
