Saint Justin to Elder Cleopa: "If you go the the Holy Mountain, you'll add another flower to the Garden of Lady Theotokos and you'll pray only for yourself. Whereas if you stay in Romania, you'll lead the faithful, teach many the way of salvation, raise spiritual children and save yourself and others. For if we all leave into solitude, who will comfort them, who will teach them Christ's will and who will guide them to the true Orthodox faith, now that unbelievers and sects multiplied so much!"
Iam an orthodox Indian Christian, the priest is speaking about being humble. There is no greater truth than death you are born to die. All our knowledge, wealth, power, beauty has to succumb in the face of death. What remains is gods grace. I find a very humble priest in front of me, some of you may not agree with him but dont abuse him

@spartacus24pit Fear of God is just the beginning, for as Elder Cleopa said in this video that fear of God pushes evil away from man. From fear of God,we get to Love of God,in this state we do no evil because we do not want to sadden him,and as well we do only good deeds and pray all day long just to make him happy, and to save ourselves.
I was once told, by a monk with the gift of spiritual discernment, that when there are no more people to pray for the world, then Christ will return to establish the Heavenly Jerusalem on Earth.
RockBadger14 I have my doubts about this. Saint Paul says that those in the end days will change directly in their spiritual bodies. Not having anyone praying for the world means that the last followers of Christ will die which contradicts the vers from Saint Paul.
@@sfappetrupavelandrei I don't see the contradiction in the verse here; no-one being present to pray for the world does not mean that those who do not pray will not undergo a spiritual transformation.
MV11 A better translation would be "may Heaven eat you all". Father Cleopa was a peasant and he spoke as a peasant. The word "consume" doesn't express corectly his saying.
One of the most wise words I have ever heard!it is like... "Keep your mind in the Hell, have hope and do not fear"-Just as Jesus did-He went down to the Hell in order to Ressurect!!!!!!!!!
@spartacus24pit Is not fear of God, like being afraid for what He will do to you. Is fearing that by your actions, you willingly upset the one you love. For if you know that He loves you, then you come to love Him, and you try your best not to upset Him. It is this fear that keeps you straight on the line... and even if you sometimes fail, He will help you get back on the right path.
It's living with the awareness of our brokeness. Keeping in mind that God's love would not have me do most of what I without awareness of what the effect , sinful and outside such love, has on others and, subsequently, the cosmos. *Love one another as I have loved you" ... Lord Have Mercy.
It seems there is the little death we all must face at the end of worldly life and the big death which is when we live before that little death in sin, denying Christ and never knowing him as our savior, the hidden bigger death in sin our way before we finally pass on into the little death. In our times those living in the bigger death are a vast majority, in our face 24/7. Grimacing and gnashing their teeth behind fake smiles as they unknowingly or knowingly partake in that bigger death. We who have returned to God are double blessed to be saved from this glaring bigger death, living in the body of life before the coming little death. So be it we witness His life which overcomes that death. So be it all trapped, unknowingly or knowingly, might see and follow the way of Life. Thank God! Amen, Amen, Amen.
Oh well! If you have those DVDs, then I'm sure you'll easily find these 2 - they were sauperbly done by deacon Nenad Ilic, ex- theatre director himself, both DVDs are superbly done, the one with St. Nikolai contains also a lot of rare footage of him from the 30-ies... as for fr. Justin footage, he's just having a chat with few visitors in Celije monastery.
Yes, and Elder Cleopa did obedience and stayed in Romania :-) Great info, thanks! Do you know by any chance if St. Justin talks about Ecumenism in that DVD? By the way, I have an excellent DVD with Serbian Elders: Fr. Tadej, Mother Ilarija (God rest her soul!) and Fr. Justin of Decane.

@spartacus24pit By "fear", something gets lost in translation. In orthodoxy such phrases have a fullness meaning. taking away from that wholeness which is in Christ, by The Holy Spirit, to the Glory of The Father. Such Holy Fear means "awesomeness, the all-knowingness of God"
@spartacus24pit Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind. Ecclesiastes 12:13 God is deserving of fear and awe - He is the One who created the stars. How can we not have fear when we approach Him?
At this time in my life, I much rather live out Saint Anthony's realization that "I no longer fear God, but I love Him". Does anyone know the source of the quote from Saint Basil on this video? Want to understand context beyond the minor prooftext. Thanks kindly.
@spartacus24pit Even fear of death means actually, fearing that you will be away from Our Lord, from The One you love. Because God is Life, and death is the absence of Life. God Bless us.
We know not to mingle our doctrine with other churches, for this is deceit and conceals the Truth. If we don't accept the theology of others who are close to us in faith, how can we accept those of the pagan faith which does not even testify to One God in Trinity? To mingle such things with the Church is a terrible thing. Judging the doctrine and practices of other 'Churches' is quite a different matter from judging the heart of a man.
Orthodox Christianity has never mixed with the Greek Hellenic Pagan 'gods'. Spiritual wisdom comes from the One and Only True God, who is Christ. These confisions and attitudes make me sick at heart for the Church. The Church is not an ethnicity, but is given for all freely, and shall we ever conceal the Truth by blending it in with pagan and heretical beliefs by our pride, may the Lord have mercy on us!
@tilemacro For the fools, spiritual life is 'religious indoctrination'. They talk, talk, talk about something they even know or live. Being humble is a good starting point for them. Maybe one day could start to comprehend something.
To see the death in front of you makes sens, but to have fear of God...does not make sens.He loves people, why ask for fear?We are not like sheeps who respect only the fear factor
It was a reference to an Orthodox practice in which people need to say the Jesus prayer (Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy upon me, the sinner) all the time. You could say that this practice represents the Orthodox equivalent of Buddhist meditations. It started the latest serious dogmatic argument in the Orthodox Church. This was in the XIVth century.
@tilemacro I keep the point, you know nothing about spiritual life, to say something about it. Do you want to talk about something else, internet for example? It's another thing.
