ABOUT THE OXFORD UNION SOCIETY: The Oxford Union is the world's most prestigious debating society, with an unparalleled reputation for bringing international guests and speakers to Oxford. Since 1823, the Union has been promoting debate and discussion not just in Oxford University, but across the globe.
The Oxford Union is deeply grateful and encouraged by the messages of support in response to our determination to uphold free speech. During our 200 year history, many have tried to shut us down. As the effects of self-imposed censorship on university campuses, social media and the arts show no signs of dissipating, the importance of upholding free speech remains as critical today as it did when we were founded in 1823. Your support is critical in enabling The Oxford Union to continue its mission without interruption and without interference. You can support the Oxford Union here: oxford-union.org/supportus
Is it my imagination or do the vegan speakers actually have more grace, class, eloquence, and intelligence?
Not your imagination at all, this is definitely the case.
Probably cognitive bias because they’re reinforcing points you want to hear
I watched the entire debate , the vegan speakers were putting forward their arguments where as the other team particularly the two female speakers making mean and personal attacks on their opposing team specifically about Disha. This is not a platform for your personal vendetta, Must say Disha handled all the nasty remarks with a remarkable grace
No. It's not your imagination. 💚🕊️🌿

Dear god I love this man and his brilliance and comedic humor.
Plus he is handsome😂😂😂

It's time to end speciesism.
This is how I like humour in a debate to be handled, by sounding witty, smart and classy.
Not constantly sounding drunk and loud (you know of whom I'm talking).

Fact based, why were so many others in the opposition side of the debate just giving personal views and very little, if any facts

Such eloquence and class combined with brilliance. Completely different from Katie and the other selfish carcass crunchers.

Dr. Chidi Ngwaba has my vote.

A good representative of his vegan lifestyle: Good body, good voice, excellent arguments

It would be compared to the average modern diet even if they didn't eat animal products.
Been vegan 9 years and still waiting on that protein deficiency to hit
😂
Loved that….mis stake…..😂
What a lovely speech!
My mother recently had cancer and his point about the 1970's China health survey really is fascinating. Cancer often correlates with high sugar intake, so I can believe older diets are better... if not necessarily modern vegan ones. 😏
Hello Dr. Chidi.
Is there a special training for lifestyle medicine?
I am a medical clinical officer in Uganda and I would wish to provide the service in my medical center.
Thanks
Loma Linda ref was highly unexpected.
Too many people there are in this world. And too many too often eat too much meat.
While he did a great job with the limited time he had, vegan diets can indeed be healthier than omnivorous diets and veganism should be supported for many reasons, his health claims are highly exaggerated.
His exaggeration is unfortunate because overselling the effects of plant-based diets can create distrust of research that supports our transition away from animal agriculture.
Why would it do that? He is talking about whole plant based foods vs meat and dairy. Not that all vegan food is healthy.. but that cutting out the meat and dairy will make you healthier.
@@carothehonestpeanut There is no doubt that cutting out animal foods and replacing them with healthy, or even processed, vegan options has beneficial health effects in most people.
Many people, however, will not experience such great benefits as he claims and then they might abandon veganism or even become anti-vegan.
For instance, vegans are protected against several cancers, but not by the extent he claims. So now even some cancer cases amongst vegans become cases against veganism and makes people wary of the fact that a vegan diet is healthy in general because unfortunately many people have issues with nuance, unlike yourself.
I would say there is very strong evidence in favor of whole plant foods and their beneficial effects on health. But veganism itself is an ethical/moral stance, and a vegan diet can be as healthy or unhealthy as you like.
@@TheStruggler101 The strength of the evidence for the positive health effects of whole (and even some refined) plant foods is hard to argue against. The effect sizes he claims can be questioned however.
Questioned like: What did the rural Chinese people die from if not cancer? Did they live much longer than the richer city people?
@@VeggoFix
Yeah thinking back, it did sound like he was infering something along the lines of 'you will be immune to cancer' which is obviously not true. I do agree with what you are saying, you make a good point 👍

The science is clear, you can be perfectly healthy being vegan. So you have no excuse to eat animals
No, the science isn't clear at all
@@VincenzoInfi it is though.
@@cinnamon8884 Its clear that vegan diet ain't healthy.....

@@factsoverfeelings1776 you show them, edgelord!
Haha mis-steak! Lol! Great info!
I don't eat meat not because i want to live longer or shorter but for completely different reasons.
Meat eaters live longer than vegan and most livestock animals eat other animals.
@@GarudaLegends read again what I wrote before. I don't eat meat not because I care about the length of my life.
@@dainagrn7030 lol. So then you want to live a short life span on an unhealthy vegan diet when pigy, chickens, fish, turkeys, lobsters, shrimp, crabs, ducks and other animals eat meat? 🤔
@@GarudaLegends yes
There are many reasons to go vegan. Better health and longevity are just two of them.
What are health that prevent your educayion.
longer life & fewer health issues = ALLEGED XXL
Unless you're a child. Then the infant would probably be removed by social services for neglect.
Don't have children, nobody will remove them.
Only possible if you don’t have digestive issue like a removed colon
Of course it’s possible
@@MoistVeganwrong.
@@MoistVegan oh really? Because you’re talking to someone who doesn’t have a colon and eating leafy greens WILL cause diarrhea. And since I don’t have a colon, I can’t absorb as much water
I’d have to constantly be taking anti-diarrheal medicine and I don’t want to do that
only possible if you don`t jave a removed oesophagus.
@@cinnamon8884not sure about you but I don’t want to take medication that I don’t need to take in order to not get diarrhea and get dehydrated
I’ll stay away from leafy greens and continue eating a heavily carnivore diet for my health
My grandmother is 104 years old she always eats meat all her life plus she can still walk with a stick and do a lot of things a lot of people I know go vegan, then go back to eating normal food
Genetics allows a few of us to smoke extensively and live a long life. I, for one, am not willing to bet my life and health span on having the right genes to get away with smoking or eating meat. I don't mind dying, but I don't want it to be my fault.
The human digestive system is NOT a herbivores digestive system.
It’s not an omnivore. Omnivores don’t need to eat animals. That’s why there is no study o. Earth that proves u must eat animals to be healthy
So what? We are also not supposed to wear glasses or get older than 35.
@cinnamon8884 I'm sorry but did you think that was a "gotcha" argument? 😂 if anything you've just proved his point, we wear glasses because they are a necessity to help us see, we grow old a it is the NATURAL course of life. Going vegan..... does none of those things. Meat has been an established and ingrained part of humanity's nutritional intake for thousands of years. If you can't see the point I'm making then I genuinely struggle to see how you have functioned as a human being thus far.
@@VincenzoInfi
Just because something has been happening for a long time doesn't make it moral or healthy. For example for nearly all of human existence men have forced themselves on women. Now this is rightly call rape and not allowed. Equally murdering rival tribes is not normally allowed. Humans can be better than their nature. Not eating animals is just an extension of empathy to recognise the suffering of self aware animals, just as we empathise with our fellow humans and don't want to do them harm.
@@VincenzoInfi growing old is not natural, evolution wants you dead at 30. eating cooked meat is also not natural.
People who eat the standard diet full of processed and junk food are dying younger. Just to eliminate this crap from your diet makes a big difference. But to say that meat is not good for you is a total nonsense! We are not herbivores, just look at the digestive systems of herbivores and carnivores. Well, believe what you want at your own peril.
Omnivore is the word.
An eloquent speech with lame arguments for the vegan philosophy. A missed opportunity. 🤦🏻♂️
He is part of a debate team. His team mates covered those things.
@@jamesadam4415 , I know that, but the question was: „Should the House go vegan?” And this guy, who was supposed to speak about veganism, only spoke about a plant-based diet.
@@cristianpurcaru it is Joey Carbstrong who's meant to speak for the ethical side
@@nomindstate , I know perfectly well, mate. I'm arguing that the arrangement of this whole discussion, where they convened to have people speaking about something different than veganism, when their goal was, presumably, to speak about veganism, was nonsensical. And seeing that only Joey has spoken about veganism (which he did eloquently) was disappointing.
What?
If you want to live a sad, unhealthy, short life make sure to go vegan
Science disagrees with your opinion. If you want to be a selfish animal abuser oppressor be non vegan.
